If you know who sent the threats, please share so those people can be banned from tournaments forever for their horrible actions.

People being upset about the situation is a different thing entirely though, and its perfectly understandable why they would be.
I jumped the gun on that comment, I only have a guess on who might have sent some. I don't want to put anyone on blast unless I am 100% sure it is them.

APEX stuff was anonymous from what Alex has said with a lot being phone numbers. If he has any from social media I would at least like to see that.

The stuff I was more sure on where the ones at the Brawl TO since it had names attached to some degree can't see it anymore since she deleted it from the massive heat she has been getting.

Anyone still going to APEX, tell them to ramp up security. This might actually be some real trouble. Bombs have been planted at events by dissatisfied gamers before. These might not be empty threats.

And we'll fail like we always have because no one gets physical about it.

We're not Call Of Duty man with swatting but if stuff goes down to the point of bombs then I lost all faith with the smash brothers community and fanbase lol.

First off, Source.

Second off, while it's possible, I extremely doubt you'd see that out of the project M community.
I don't put threats off of anyone's list, but to actually go through with something like that would require a bit more dedication than 4 years except for some of the really fanatic.

I'd see it as something a Melee player since 2001 might do, or older fight game players might do, but a Project M player?
These people are happy enough to be relevant and I have no doubts in my mind that anyone who actually would attend a tournament would never try smite the other smash games other than with comments.

Yeah, when controversial gaming journalist Anita Sarkeesian was about to receive some award. That plot was foiled, thankfully, but it still sets a worrying precedent.
I did the searching already.

It was at Utah state where she was to receive an award and give a lecture of sorts.

This incident is rumored to be related to gamergate which grabs a bigger amount of anonymous and angry people to fuel an attempt like that.

I sincerely doubt that something like that would happen.

Anyone who had intended to attend Apex for Project M probably has a decent skill level and wouldn't want to lessen their chances of ever seeing their skills put to the test in a tournament again by trying to blow up a place.

That wouldn't cause just problems for project M either, but almost all places that host tournaments in the FGC.
We'd be seeing news about it a lot and I could see places that hold tournaments shutting down due to controversy and lack of attendance from arguably irrational fear.

I feel I should restate that the likelyhood of this is probably similar to the likelyhood of me winning the lottery today.

I just checked Mr. Wizard's Twitter. Top players are telling people to boycott? Who specifically?
No one. It's just slander being spread by one of the most well known people in the FGC. It's extremely disheartening to see high profile people comment negatively on situations they know little about.

This is the 3rd year in a row AS has said he either will stop TO'ing Apex or cancel the event. The threats and everything are absolutely stupid(and I've been working on getting them identified and getting the police involved), but AS isn't exactly the most stable person to begin with, so a comment like that for the third year in a row is not surprising in the least.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

I don't mean to harp on Mr. Wizard, but avoiding that topic wasn't a good move for anyone.

He's big, meaning he can change things.

Was it for similar reasons?

If so, is it just being blown off as project M players being mad that their game isn't on the list?

If not, what reasons did he want to cancel the event for?

So he's taking what Mango said at face value and lumping it with the assumption of "other top players"? I'm glad you're taking action against these people. I would help...but I have no Twitter...or Facebook...or anything like that. *johns*

Though I didn't know this about Alex Strife. I wish the poor guy luck.

He said it on stream,

read the comments.

edit: If someone says it's Mango being Mango if he was trolling or something, that's sad.

Yeah, she's not a gaming journalist. She's a feminist blogger with a chip on her shoulder and a rabid fanbase to satisfy with ignorance.

There was no bomb and it was an empty threat sent by an anonymous dip**** in order to threaten/scare people.
Don't act like gamers as a group have planted bombs at their own events before without actually having proof to back up such a claim. If people take these threats seriously, they should act like they're serious threats, not announce them online to get attention to themselves and make themselves out to seem like a victim. They should be contacting authorities in order to protect their event, not using it as a way to waggle their fingers at a wider audience who they probably know didn't have anything to do with the morons threatening them in the first place.

It's pretty childish of people to hop on social media and demonize an entire group of people for the words of anonymous individuals.

I don't really like Mr Wizard to begin with since he liked to **** on anime fighters all the time before they got as popular as they did and started making him money, but seriously man, don't make stupid tweets if you don't even know the full story.

It upsets me so much that the trolls have gotten Alex Strife to step down from Apex, and for a lot of the community to hate on the PM community.

They got exactly what they wanted. The community is divided.

Edit: I understand these threats are hard to ignore, they are reprehensible and should be taken very seriously.

Yeah, I was trying to keep things neutral. I don't agree with a lot of what she has to say, but considering that people really have done some horrible things against her, like digging up her family and friends' addresses to scare her and prove they know where they live, and sending her highly explicit, extremely disturbing, and sickeningly detailed descriptions of exactly what they want to do with her, I find it hard to join in the crowd.

Some people suck. That's no reason to lump them in with the larger group of people who might complain about her or even this APEX thing but wouldn't go to a point where they threaten the person's life. People should have the capacity to separate the radical few from the majority of a group and lumping all of those who happen to be dissatisfied with the ones who threaten or commit acts of violence isn't exactly neutral. It's more professional victim sympathizing while demonizing those who don't happen to like them because someone threatened them.

A simple comment stating that a few sick individuals have done it, but that they're clearly not the majority would make it sound much less like blaming an entire group that has no ill intent because of a few people willing to engage in terroristic activities.

Well, Alex Strife never blamed any particular community, it was more the public that made the decision based on revealed information and timing and it just got out of hand at that point, and then it was general belief that the likeliest conclusion was that it WAS PM fans.

I just worry because it only takes one person to cause a huge tragedy.

That's true, but you can't blame entire groups for the actions of individuals. That's like blaming all Muslims because of the actions of a few radicals on 9/11, or blaming all Chrisitians because someone with a warped mind does something awful. It just leads to unwarranted hate being thrown around for no reason at all.

Wiz is a scumbag, that's not new.

Also, "neutral" is not a position that works in the long run, because it leads to appeasement.
There is no negotiating with these crackpots, there is only neutralizing their influence as a concept.

I'm going to agree with meiling
Wtf are you nerds talking about.
Yall need to chill, any threats were probably sent by some neckbeard in Basement who doesn't go to events and just wanted to cause drama

There's not going to be any bombing threats, that's ********. What sane or even insane person would threaten that many people, many of which are probably thier friends who they traveled with, and endanger those lives over a game not being in a tournament?
if something does happen, it's because the individual was mentally unstable to begin with, not because a group of people were salty

And stop with the ****ing generalizations of games and thier players, throwing blanket statements over "melee players" is just as bad as those few melee purists who only rag on pm. It's childish.

I don't normally agree with mech when he is in these pissy/serious moods, but guys just stop and grow up
