I feel bad for the people who supported Wolf pre-Brawl and argued that he wouldn't be a clone, which he naturally wouldn't/shouldn't be, but you know Sakurai.

I think Wolf was added in late in development because of time constraints. Clone characters probably don't take as long to implement and balance as unique characters, although, I don't blame Sakurai for making Wolf a clone, in fact I think he did a good job trying to make Wolf differ.

I figured Wolf was one of the latest characters added in development. Not just due to that but the fact he was the last character for you to unlock and had no SSE role.

If Wolf got in Melee I would have loved him much more. But adding him on in addition to Falco (who I also love) as another variation of Fox felt like really wasted potential. Granted for what they were working with, I do think they did a good job with Wolf as a fighter (feral/low stance, fights "dirty/dangerously" in comparison to Fox/Falco), just not with Wolf as a character
(even his voice acting seemed off, to me)

That said I'm not at all opposed to more similarities/traits. I'd just like something different than Landmasters.

Source that there's no way it's a variable to possibly look at?
that was probably N3ON's personal opinion. The WTF does add to the question of whether Females get a special treatment because of the fact that she was chosen over the Male WFT. I still think it is too soon to judge whether Females are getting a special treatment because at this point we are branching out to Nintendo's lesser known characters. I don't think the addition of Krystal or even Palutena would prove that Females are getting a special treatment because they seem like characters that don't have much competition within their series, however, if a character like Dixie Kong or Lucina got in over King K.Rool or Chrom respectively then it would seem suspicious.

I go further than that. I don't want 3 "landmaster/laser/reflector using strong-legged edgy "Space-animals."

Even if Krystal had a laser, reflector, fell fast, and kicked a lot, she'd still feel/seem way different.

I'd attribute WFT getting in over WFT-Male for the same reason I think Sakurai shared a pic of her ass. Sex sells.

I feel that the addition of Wolf has made me feel less attached to Falco

As much as Falco has grown on me, and as much as Wolf would have grown on me if I liked Brawl.. this would be the ideal Star Fox roster (based entirely on what I value.)

Star Fox, as a franchise, no longer warrants more than 3. I think it only warrants 2 to be honest.

Fox: As he is, some of Wolf's "dirty" moves because Fox is edgy. Gets falco's laser.
Krystal, with a Krystal moveset (including, importantly, staff. Maybe even upgrade her staff with Star Fox technology.)

Of course, I don't expect this to happen. Rather, I'm thoroughly convinced it won't, but it's still how I feel.

if Krystal would have appeared in the first two Starfox games along with everything else, this roster choice would have made perfect sense, however, I would have to disagree about Starfox having any less than three character slots, and here's why:

1. The Starfox characters are each combat oriented and fit in the smash atmosphere
2. The Starfox characters get in because they are popular among the fans
3. Fox was a part of the original 12
4. Starfox was once a big franchise

I still feel like i'm living in the 90's back when Starfox was up there with the Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong. Because of this I am still hopeful and can see Starfox making a big revival someday. To anyone who says Starfox is dead I question if they were living under a rock in the 90's or if they were even born in the early 90's. If Starfox would have been done right in the Gamecube era then by all means would I feel that it deserves 4 reps.

1. So is Captain Falcon, but their movesets are completely innovated, as opposed to taken from the characters (save for Falcon punch/kick/dive, and the laser [to a small extent, the powerful legs.]) I don't think Captain Falcon or Ness should have any franchise partners. Star Fox isn't as "bad" (sales, recency, etc.) as Mother or F-Zero, so it should get more than 1.
2. This I totally agree with. That's partially why I altered Fox to make him sort of a "jack-of-all-trades" for Space Animal playstyle.
3. Ness, C. Falcon were as well.
4. Which is why I don't put it in the same boat as Mother or F-Zero.

All of this screams "2" as opposed to three.

To me, based solely on the franchise (not paying attention to "character potential" [it's hard to find unique character in Metroid games, for example. There's only like 3 actual characters in it that aren't "Suited Samus with a different color."])

Mario/Wario/Yoshi (combined) = 7-9
LoZ: 4
Pokemon: 4
DK, Kirby, FE, Metroid: 3
Star Fox: 2
Kid Icarus, Golden Sun, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, or etc: 1
Everything else (that doesn't fall into the etc from above): 0
Mother, Ice Climber, Metal Gear, Megaman: Consider yourself lucky
F-Zero, Sonic: consider yourself semi-lucky. You were decently sized in 90's & early 2000's, then there's the whole veteran thing.

Now, how many the franchise would get can change based on variables. (EX: Multiple reps in 1 that just kinda seems necessary because of it's relation to the franchise [PkMn Trainer, Zelda/Sheik,]) but if we looked at it solely from a perspective of "how many reps should it have with the only variable being 'how important is the franchise,'" then I think these are reasonable numbers.

Krystal is very unlikely to be in. Get over it.

I really think she missed the boat in Brawl and she's not that popular in Japan either.

Someone's a badass over here. I forgot how much you know about what is and isn't likely to be in Smash bros. Because, you know, prior to E3, we all predicted exactly who would be shown. And we were right, Ridley, Takamaru, Little Mac, and Palutena, all graced the screen. Then Sakurai said "**** Waluigi, Zoroark, Tingle and Krystal", and everyone was rich and had beautiful lives and lived happily ever after. No one knows what's likely or unlikely at this point, and the "dream" is dead. We in all reality aren't getting the SWF 2012 Sm4sh roster. Everything we thought was likely, is not. If mother ****ing Wii Fit Trainer, and a character that was actually deconfirmed for good can be revealed Smash4, Krystal can.

Shortie, you've resorted to using the meme arrows now? Come on.

Wolf is not a clone. He has a similar moveset to Fox, but that's a given.

As much as Falco has grown on me, and as much as Wolf would have grown on me if I liked Brawl.. this would be the ideal Star Fox roster (based entirely on what I value.)

Fox is not edgy. Falco is the rebellious maverick of Star Fox, but Wolf is the only one who would make sense to have cheap shots, which he still does not. And people in this thread still stick by the staff argument. It has been a decade since SFA, why reference it? If they didn't give any reference to SFA in Brawl or Melee it's even less likely they will in SSB4.

I should hope they mention Star Fox Adventure exists in her games section, considering that was her debut, but I was looking for something like a stage, an item, an assist trophy... and yet that's about as much credit the game gets, isn't it?

Well there's some Stickers so... It's something.

And Shorite is right, you said "they didn't get any reference." Don't move the goalposts.

Krystal is popular. Krystal is prominent. Krystal has move set potential. Krystal is a Nintendo character. And to top it all off, we have about 10 - 15 stand out Nintendo characters at this point, and she's among them. She hits all the qualifications, it's simply a matter of weighing in on weather or not you believe she'll make it in. I'm not confident she will make it in, but I'd give her a 50/50 shot.

would anyone complain if Starfox got four reps?
Not really.

The reps argument is kinda stupid.

However, I can see people getting ticked off if Krystal got in over more popular characters such as Ridley, K.Rool, Mewtwo, etc.

But this type of anger is always going to be around. ROB > Ridley type situations are bound to happen, and we cannot have everyone, so... someone is always going to be disappointed. Plus, she may not be QUITE as popular as those three, but she's pretty damn close.

I swear, the only people more dedicated to this thread are the haters. And you all try to say Krystal isn't popular ;)

Now that we have seen alternate costume swaps on the Wii Fit Trainer, do you think that if Krystal gets in that she will have both her Adventures and Assault uniforms?
