I think the Star Fox series should have another representative come into the fray! Krystal would be an interesting character and have some cool and unique abilities to bring to SMASH.

Just another theory of mine:

Perhaps Sakurai and his team are using trailers to promote franchises that Nintendo wants to see sold more. These trailers certainly highlight their franchises, after all---they attract a lot of attention. Hence, they raise the awareness of their franchises. It's marketing. Yes, if this were true (and it certainly looks like it could be), it could be viewed as disappointing to some fans---they'd love to see certain franchises be pillared in the epicness of newcomer trailers. As it goes though, there is a limited amount of resources and time to allot towards these newcomer trailers; not all franchises can receive trailers.

There's nothing that says all franchises can't simultaneously receive newcomers, though---with or without trailers.

So, what would this mean about the rest of these franchises?

Well, many of these franchises, even without Smash Brothers, receive more attention than most of the ones shown in the newcomer trailers (except, in the collective notion, Kid Icarus). Not only that, but many of them don't have games out at this moment that Nintendo is focusing on selling. In this sense, perhaps said franchises will receive hidden newcomers? The need to highlight most of these franchises isn't high enough to warrant newcomer trailers. This theory hinges on the idea of each franchise growing---after all, it's the next Smash (it'd be awkward to cut back on franchises).

The main reason why I brought this up is that every single franchise received at least one newcomer in Brawl. All of them---except for Mario (unless you count Wario, which I do because of his heavy association).

In this sense, who's to say the same thing can't happen this time too?

Again, it looks like Sakurai is focusing on newcomers from either recent games or franchises that haven't sold as well as all of the other, arguably more-renowned ones (collectively speaking, not specifically speaking). This could just be part of the marketing ploy---in the bigger scheme.

And to those who might say "Nintendo wouldn't do that---it's greedy and/or unfair":

Too bad. Nintendo is already working some dirty marketing techniques with Smash. Check out how much they're promoting the 3DS version of Smash compared to the Wii U one---they want the 3DS version to sell. But wait, what about the Wii U one? Oh, don't worry, they'll make you want to buy that one too---just not now.

They're making the 3DS version look attractive so that many people get it, only to make the Wii U one look attractive after the 3DS version releases (this is speaking in terms of content---we currently know much more about the 3DS version than the Wii U one).

All I have to say is that it's potentially inconsiderate of Nintendo. Their marketing in general is quite poor, which contributes to the lack of awareness of many of these lesser franchises---and thus, their lower sales figures. Many of these other, more renowned franchises could be argued that they deserve the newcomer trailer spotlights rather than the ones we've seen. However, that's just not the name of the game this time.

All of this said, and I didn't even mention the Amiibo (even if they do bring something unique to the table, they're still commodities to be sold) and potential DLC...

Anyways, to bring the point to a full circle (and I think you know where I'm going with this), perhaps Krystal will be one of these hidden or DLC characters?

(Relevant picture is relevant)

To me, excluding certain more-renowned franchises from growing over others would be odd, especially in this day and age (and especially after knowing that they'd already done it in Brawl). Why can't we have a newcomer for all of them?

I have a fear they may try to pull dlc with that toy crap, like what skylanders does. Also it shouldn't serve as surprising they are promoting new franchises, they are trying to invest in the future after all. Marvel versus capcom 3 got a lot of **** for this.

OOH, I had an even dirtier thought that can coincide with my theory above:

What if Nintendo just uses the most collectively requested characters as digital DLC to make money off of us---because these characters are already more popular than some of the ones revealed already?

-3DS Smash.
-Wii U Smash.
-Amiibo Figurines.
-DLC of most popular, viable characters.

Nintendo be like:

"Holla holla get dolla"

DLC is inevitable, they have the technology for it now and there will be gigantic demand.

Well considerin that Nintendo has been embracing DLC lately....it quite frankly wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I expect Smashboards to be salty about it.

But even worse, under this theory, it'd be characters they make to specifically reserve for DLC. That'd be a low blow.
Indeed it would be...

But seeing how most of the general Nintendo fanbase defends every action Nintendo does, I also wouldn't be surprised if in the event that SSB4 Disc-Locked Content would happen, they'd be OK with it & go all "Thanks based-Sakurai!! Stop being entitled!"

I doubt nintendo will do disk locked content, but isn't it a statistic that most of nintendo;s fans are hardcore nintendo fans?

Nope, not by a long shot. Most of Nintendo's hardcore fans are long gone...

Theres just a vocal minority that whines over many things.

Nintendo give us a new IP, stop making Mario games!!!

*Splatoon & S.T.E.A.M.*

What is this crap? Eugh!! Make an F-Zero game!!!

***

Nintendo is unique because they don't focus on online multiplayer!

They still got the fans but they're not too hardcore.

The last generation was all about the casual fans. Nintendo has those in droves. I do wonder what constitutes a hardcore fan nowadays. The people screaming and hollering for new Zelda, Metroid and Mario games? First party stuff, basically?

Nintendo! Buy Capcom and give me a Street Fighter exclusive for no apparent reason!!! :mad088:

Probably growing up in the NES and/or SNES era is hardcore (From what I've seen).

For games though, its a can of worms that I prefer not to open. It usually never ends well

I've heard the majority of the fans from that time became discouraged and transitioned to other consoles. I myself am from the SNES era and can personally tell you the legend behind the console is true: blowing into the game cartridge really does help it work.

It's difficult for me to define a hardcore game. Some may say it has to do with mature themes, others would tell you it has to do with a deep learning curve or something that's got a high skill ceiling. Too many definitions imo.

I think a hardcore gamer is just someone who puts a lot of time and has a lot of passion for video games.

I am also from the SNES era. I was there for it all.

Though why is Nintendo being so secretive about the new Star Fox, seriously they with Star Fox, are clearly going after the old Nintendo fan base that left after the Wii, so why are they being so secretive

I'm not sure that everyone here knows me from the social thread, but before Captain Falcon, Lucina, and Robin were revealed, Arigarmy drew this for me, and I used it for my avatar for a week.

I must admit this does make me a bit crazy for Krystal. Hehehehehehe

Oh yeah, CoroCoro is tomorrow. Geez, August has flown by.

But that only means that we're just getting closer and closer to the beautiful Smash 3DS!

As for a Krystal related topic, I'm still very hopeful for her inclusion. With the way we've seen things lately, my gut is telling me that she'll be playable.

However, to the people on this thread, please hear me out.

If someone comes into this thread and expresses an opinion you don't care for, please don't respond rudely. It makes us as a whole look immature and poor. If you want to respond, just hear them out and pursue an intelligent debate. If they are rude in return, then try to be the bigger person in the situation. I used to get furious with opposers coming into this threads, but I learned that there's no victory in anger.

Hmm, personally it's what I've always thought. I mean, I don't see 'random' DLC characters like... Let's say Prince Sable who's largely unknown to the general public, they'd rather put their gimmicky / boring characters into the true game and have the popular options that would sell well as DLC.

There's nothing strange about that, and it appears to me that it's very likely they are going to do so. The only problem I see is that so far, I don't really wanna buy the game, it doesn't attract me at this point in time (which is why we need more reveal, and not boring ones like Miis or characters that really look boring and unoriginal).

It makes sense, unfortunately. This is me taking myself from my hopeful perspective and imagining a hypothetical business perspective, of course.

As for the bolded part:

This is exactly what my brother and I hypothesized regarding how Nintendo is treating Sm4sh's marketing. It's having a strange impact on some of the viewers---giving them second thoughts, or questioning whether or not Nintendo is focusing mainly on these lesser-known (ex: Robin, Lucina, Palutena and potentially Shulk and Chorus Men) or strange franchises/characters (ex: Wii Fit Trainer). Honestly, I feel this way too. It's just a testament to Nintendo's strange marketing.

They could have balanced out the character releases in terms of their popularity to include all of the above---as well as their potential marketing strategy. However, now it just seems like they're mainly focusing on the marketing strategy alone.

Its just so meaningless when the same person keeps coming back saying the same thing. I mean come on have some respect for others wants at least.

Even so, it's still the better option to sit your emotions on the side. We don't need to be angry. If they waste their own time, that's their own fault.

Just heed these words. Trust me, you'll feel better if you respond to detractors in a more mature manor.

(That wasn't intended to be offensive, just a precaution.)
