Out of curiosity, what buttons do you guys use for Jumping/L-Cancelling/Shielding? C-Stick or no? Which style do you think is best?

x+A for aerials. R to l-cancel, shield and wavedash. L to power shield and wavedash OoS. c-stick only for retreating aerials, but I can do it without a c-stick anyways to it's really 50/50.

it's the noob set up but there's no difference if you make it work..and again, I can wavedash OoS with L and retreat aerials with or without c-stick so it works for me.

Depends on the character. But I prefer L to l-cancel. X or control stick to jump. C-stick for smashes, arials (retreating or not), rolling, doing my laundry. R to shield, and I never go past that threshold where it's all the way down. Need to WD OoS? No problem, just press R harder. Lol

I use the C-stick for select aerials (bairs and dairs) and aesrials out of shield/shine.
I Jump with x when short hopping and when I'm gonna waveland on stuff.
I wavedash with Y and L
I waveland and shield with R
I L-cancel with L
I tap jump for SHDLs (trying to learn to do them with Y, its just a habit)
I use Y to jump out of shield and out of shine (mostly)

I use

Y to jump
R to wavedash, waveland, sheild
R+A to sheild grab
X+Z to do jump canceled grabs
Retreating aerials with the C stick (also do some aerials with it)
Smashs with the C stick

And that's about it

Since I realized i haven't posted yet.

Y to jump.
R for L cancelling, Wavedashing, and Shielding.
C Stick for aerials everything except Fair and Uair

Debating on trying to Learn using L for l cancelling but im not sure how worth it its gonna be.

Changing to L for that stuff? I don't think it really makes a difference, you might as well stay with R if that what your most comfortable with cause having a comfortable position is what matters most.

It feels awkward to use R so much i guess. I dunno, it always bothered me.

I like these Threads

I use:

UP to jump
Z for aerials as well as C-stick
UP-R-DOWN to wavedash
Z for L-cancelling
R for Teching
R for wavelanding

Z is amazing

Oh, and UP-X-Z for DJC aerials
Yay, Hbox uses Z to L-cancel too

I had this list put together a while ago so I wouldn't forget my transitions; I'll just paste it here. =p

=

Before Competitive Melee:

Jump - Analog

Smashes - C-stick
- A added eventually

Shield - R (index finger)

Aerials - A

Grab - Z (index finger)

Introduction to Competitive Melee:

Jump - Analog

Short Hop - X

Smashes - C-stick and A; mostly A

Shield - R (index)

Aerials - A; infrequent C-Sticking

Grab - Z (index)

L-Cancel - R

Wavedash/land - X+R

After Year 1:

Jump - Mixture of Analog and X; mostly Analog

Short Hop - X; snapped Analog for OoS

Smashes - C-Stick; A only for charging

Jump-Cancelled Upsmash - X+A

Shield - R (index)

Aerials - strictly C-Stick; A only for Nair

Grab - Z (index)
- shield-grabbing added

L-Cancel - R

Wavedash/land - X+R

After Year 2:

Jump - Analog (only if standing still) and X

Short Hop - Y (index finger); snapped Analog

Smashes - C-Stick; charges changed to C-Stick/A combo

Jump-Cancelled Upsmash - Y+C-Stick

Shield - L (index)

Aerials - C-Stick; A for Nair, obv

Grab - Z (middle finger)

L-Cancel - R (middle)

Wavedash/land - X+R

((Other silly stuff like shine OoS, multishines, and SH double lasers are done with Y.))

You use analog for everything to? I use up for everything as well. :) Glad I'm not the only one.
I just can't imagine being able to press up to jump for everything. X or Y just seems like it would be quicker and easier to press.

Y for jump, X for wavedashing, L for L-cancelling/waveland/shield stuff, R for wavedashing/wavelanding, C-stick for most aerials/some smashes, A for smashes a decent amount of the time and some aerials based on the situation.

Sometimes when I play Fox I do a ghetto Javi arcade grip except I don't have my thumb on the C-stick.

Lol as soon as I got into competetive smash I stopped using UP to jump xD, and apparently I use R to shield, didn't notice till I played, L to wavedash/waveland/tech Y to jump (rarely control stick) C stick aerials except obviously nair most smashs C stick unless I wanna time it with a charge.

I use L for everything.. i dont even keep my pointer finger on R, i usually keep it on Z
I also Use C stick for just about everything except neutral air and charged smashes

any info on clawing... i am a falco player and i am also interested in picking up fox, would clawing be beneficial?

Y - Jump
Z - JC Grabs
L - L Canceling
R - Shield/Spotdodge/Airdodge/Wavedash

I don't use X for anything, and I only use the C-stick for fastfalling up and down aerials.

You can also Hold A.

Jump/Wavedash/Waveland = X

A = Tilts and some uairs. Nair.

Control Stick = Jumping out of shine/Double shines.

C-stick. All Smashes but Forward smash. Unless charged.

L+A for grabs(Sometimes Z)

L for Shields and l-cancels.

R is useless.

R is useless haha, I thought the same, then when I got home and played I found I do 95% of my shielding and shield grabs with R and everything else with L

Up throwing with c-stick would make me fail uptilt too much xD

Also never touch L nor X. Never jump with up. Cstick is my (best)friend.

Maybe, I don't use the same button for oos cause you have to be really fast. Plus the R and L buttons, you have to hold them down till they click which makes it harder.

It was hard for me to learn to use L, since I only use it for l-cancelling- so I just used R. Not to sound arrogant or anything, but I feel as though I'm somewhat fast.
