Practicing in Slo-Mo Melee: What do you think?

Alright, so I want to improve my tech skill so that I can compete with my friends, but I've been having difficulties. Everything just moves too fast for me to work it all out. I can wavedash and such, but not well enough that it can be meaningfully applied.

So I decided to slow things down. I'll get used to advanced techniques, and then go to standard Melee for the real speed. I prefer Slo-Mo Melee over Training Mode because I can get lvl. 9 CPUs in Slo-Mo. It's definitely easier to perform advanced techniques. My only question is: will it work?

I'm sure a lot of you know the game better than I do. Is going Slo-Mo and then transitioning to standard Melee the easiest way, or is there another method I should use?

Thanks for your input :).

I used to practice in lightning mode so that when I played real mode it seemed slow and I could read characters like fox and shiek much easier, but I like to practice my advanced tech's in regular speeds.

practice in normal, slo-mo will throw you off.
just do easier things and gradually build up to the harder things

If anything, go to training mode so you can vary the game speed instead of having just one speed. But yeah I think techniques should be practiced at regular speed, because timing and muscle memory will be different for slo-mo and regular Melee. Being able to pillar perfectly in slo-mo is meaningless if you can't do it in regular mode.

I'd just say take things step at a time. there is nothing that is comprised of just one action. SHFFL? Practice SH and get that down. Then move onto aerials. Then add in FF'ing. Then learn to L-cancel. Everything can be broken down. And eventually, all those actions for an AT will associate with themselves and just come out when you play. P:

Sure, AT's seem pretty hard now and it may be tempting to practice them at different speeds. Unfortunately, this will screw up your muscle memory and probably cause you more problems. x: It's daunting, but just practice slowly and steadily and you'll get stuff down before you know it.

Also, level 9 computers aren't the best practice fodder for much.

If you want to practice control over your character and comboing, try levels 1 and 4.

If you want to practice controlling the stage try level 6 or so.

I used to want to tinker a lot in slow-mo and lightning mode melee for various reasons, but the bottom line is that the time spent on those is never better than if you had just been playing at normal speed. If you are totally stumped by a tech move, go into training and practice it on reduced speed BRIEFLY until you can just barely do it, but as soon as possible return to real-time speed.

Bad idea, just begin w/the easier techs like short hopping with Fox, when you master Fox's Sh you'll be able to do all chars. Then Luigi's WD the easiest.

But slow-mo it's only good to check the character limits like how many lasers can Fox shoot in a sh, or how high can the IC's side+B go, etc. But it's not good to smash with.

But if you get used to the harder SH's like Fox and IC's or anyone else with 4-frame jumps, you might fall into the same trap that I do; I think "OH CAPTAIN FALCON, he doesn't need 3 frames to let go of the jump button!" so I get cocky sometimes and do a FJ. I mean, it's not the worst thing in a friendly, but still - consistency is key.

On the other hand, playing lightning melee is good for making you think faster. Normal melee by comparison feels oh so slow.

Slo-Mo Melee does improve your reaction timing, but that's usually pointless when all other game modes are fast paced. Basically, you need to learn to anticipate your opponent's strategy on the higher speeds, since not everyone likes slow paced matches.
