Practicing chain grabs. Viable?

Hello everyone. I play alot with cpus and the few actual people I have played with are ultra-noobs. Cpus are unfortunately the only form of training I can get atm.

I have a question regarding chain throws.

Is it a good idea to practice those against the CPU?
What I mean is, if I'm playing Ganondorf vs a LvL 9 Cpt Falcon, should I go for it? Would it work on a human player? You can chain Dthrow him at around 20% or less all the way into the 100's and then Uthrow into Usmash to finish him off.

With Peach I can chain Uthrows on a Falcon cpu from 0% to over a 100 as well...
There are many examples of crazy chain throws you can do to the CPU, but this isn't viable against anyone who's skilled is it? What is viable? I see some people doing chain throws in tournements, and some never do it...

Also, I'm playing the dumbed down ******** version of Melee otherwise known as PAL.

I JC grab if I need to.

But mostly I'm referring to the most basic chain grabs such as peach's upthrow on fast fallers.

Another one I'm curious about is Falcons dthrow on Marth (PAL only I think?)

And also Ganondorfs dthrow chains on medium to fast fallers.

The reason the throw on Marth is pal only is because I believe that Marth lost weight in PAL :p
For an example, in PAL he doesn't stand up if Fox shines him.

Yup, in NTSC he is the lightest character that doesn't fall from shine.
AFAIK

Use varying CPU levels when practicing chaingrabs because they have different DI. For instance, lvl 9 usually full DI's left or right when you Uthrow them, lvl 4's are more random etc.

Btw you should totally crash King Funk's place or something (though it might be courteous to make an appointment in advance) and sit down and play some matches sometime. I know that he'd be more than happy to **** you all day and maybe teach you a thing or two.

Also I don't think Falcon can chainthrow Marth if Marth knows how to DI. Not for very long at least.

For chaingrabs like Peach's up-throw chain on fast fallers, I go to Training Mode and set the CPU to "Evade".

But yeah, go to Funk's place, as Jonas said, if you really want to improve/ implement stuff like cg'ing into your game. CPUs can give you an idea of the timing of CGs, but it is not the same as doing it against other players.
Or, if you happen to near near Aarhus sometime, you can also go to my place. Så skal jeg nok vise dig, hvordan man chaingrabber.

Thanks alot for the tips guys! The training mode for grabs seems like a great way to practice. It really sucks that you can't use the c-stick in training mode though, so all it's good for is grabs and maybe some other stuff. Sakurai is a ****** and a genius at the same time... Guess I'll experiment with the different cpu levels.

@Jonas and Tomber: Thanks alot for the tips, I definitely want to learn from him and I've already been in touch with him a little. Would also like to go to Århus sometime to visit my friends there anyway. Så skal I nok få tæsk! (yeah right) :p

You know the best thing to do is find anyone willing to chill out with you. They don't have to be good at the game to vary their DI. As long as they are friends and don't mind helping you a bit, having a player who can constantly mix it up will help you lots more. They may even get interested in the game.

Just like, cook them lunch or something.

Having the muscle memory to get the different options won't hurt. It'll take some getting used to in matches, but it's better to be able to do it than not beforehand IMO.

I guess you're referring to the c-tick in training mode? I know it'd be good to learn it, and I do use the A button quite a bit, but it's just so annoying. Shuffling uairs and dairs get tricky sometimes, especially with certain characters. And it doesn't make sense to include the c-stick in vs mode, when you can't practice with it in training mode. I'm just *****ing about the game's design. Not that shuffling is too hard :p
