How long did you spent on that digital painting for the contest, Geist?

Around 6-8 hours, not sure which one. Time seems to melt when I draw lol

I hate digital painting.

It's not the same as colored pencils to me

I just don't know how to ****ing approach my Akuma picture.

It's definitely a different mindset than colored pencils. You're still layering, but not in the same way.
Go really basic colors at first, give a single color for midtones, shadows and highlights, and then take it from there. It's definitely weird at first. I thought it would feel like using acrylics, but it isn't like that either.

I mean, I'm not sure how I want to have my brush. What size it should be. The settings to have it on. Then comes the colors and opacity of the colors. Then there's the effects to both the layers and the brush (Ex - multiply/normal/darken etc).

It's just this time it's daunting because this Akuma picture is something I REALLY want to make something good out of, if you haven't seen how it looks already. That's a large image and to get the results I already have has taken a few hours, strange as it sounds.

Then the coloring is like a whole OTHER project.

I don't use opacity settings other than the brush sensitivity options. Layer effects also aren't all that important unless you're doing some crazy advanced lighting/texture effects.

I'd just say just dive in head first, and don't worry about messing up. You won't learn things yourself unless you break down a few walls first, figure out the settings you like most, and just put a blinder on any mistakes you make, since you can always fix them afterwards with just a few clicks.
