@Meno/Geist: Honestly if it were up to me, I wouldn't care about people posting things like that. I don't think kids are as frightened of genitalia as some people make them out to be.

But I don't run this site and it's not a rule I can just throw out of the window. You'll live.

I love my admissions rep for AiP TT w TT Just gave me the good news that my game concept isnt dues til march. Despite the fact that im up at 3am writing stuff for it right now when i could be sleeping...I'm still relieved TT w TT

Though, I finished the basic plot and made a spiffy guidebook. I feel successful.

Same here, had no fireworks (I'm not a fireworks person :o) and spent most of my time just on my computer, drawing and reading. I took a walk outside with my dad and then spent the whole night being a no-good bum :p!

lol guilt trip
The photo's nice but I can't figure out whether the shadow of that pole or whatever it is doing a good job of pointing at the barn or if it's distracting because it splits the composition in two.
Is that taken around where you live?

Photo's a little on the bland side, while the shadow comes across as an error, I think.

Neon, is my self-portrait going to be added to the op? :D

Time of day. I could try to make the shadow less visible. Also, eh, I'm not good with composition when it comes to landscapes. I'm not sure what i'm looking for.

Just take a picture of what looks nice. That's what I do lol

Some of my photography from a vacation we took to Sequoia National Park. My whole family is really out-doorsy, we took a huge 3 day hiking trip around the whole park. It was pretty awesome haha.

...I feel like I'm showing a slide reel :l

COOL, Geist! I LOVE PANDAS!

Critic Meno says: the color is washed out in all of them. Otherwise, awesome.

Nothing that PS can't fix though.

Your last two photos were my favorite, btw.

I suppose a vertical centric picture can be good too.

I asked my mother for a tablet for my birthday (19th of jan), and it'll be my first :)! I'm really excited about getting it. Does anyone have suggestions what would be a decent tablet for a newb drawer that's not too expensive either?

Anyone want to share stories of their first tablet and how their expierence with it went :3?

Well I got a small sized tablet reccommended to me, and I think it works great. The great thing about a tablet is that size constraints are really only limited to your computer. You can zoom in and scroll indefinitely, so tablet size doesn't really affect anything except for the portability of the tablet itself. If you think you'll be carrying it around, I recommend a small one. If not, well it's still nice to have less clutter at your workspace.

I remember when I first got a tablet, it was a bit strange at first because I was so used to paper. If I needed a more comfortable angle I could tilt the paper, turn it upside down or to the side or whatever. You can't with a tablet though, and for a while that was the only difficulty I had. For the most part it was just like having a piece of paper that could zoom in.
After a while though I started to realize how much I appreciated how it was forcing me to draw at angles I wasn't used to doing, and it actually helped significantly with my ability to draw more precisely.
Another thing you might have to get used to is how the tablet transfers the movements to the screen. Some people don't like how it acts like a mouse (for instance if you were to draw a line from the top to the bottom of your screen and then put the pen to the top of the tablet again, the brush would still be at the bottom of the line on the screen). I personally prefer the mode where the top right of the screen translates directly to the top right of the tablet, the bottom left of the screen to the bottom left of the tablet, etc.

I have a Genius Mousepen 8x6 tablet that cost about $50. It's cheap for its size and it's pretty good, it does what it's supposed to and has nice pressure sensitivity. The only problem with it would be that the pen is kinda heavy and weird and it hurts if I hold it too long.

@Bren: I don't think anyone uses mouse mode O_o

You kids and your tablets.

Looking back I probably could've asked for one for Christmas, I've been wanting one for a while now. They look pretty convenient.

Only thing is I'm afraid if I get one I won't want to draw with pencil and paper anymore. Has that happened to anyone?

I still use pencil and paper. I find it has that official-ness that digital art doesn't really have, and it's nice to have something physically in front of you.

But I might be saying that because I do commissions for people on paper. People pay more for that.

EDIT: HAPPY BIRTHDAY THREAD

^^^ Hellooooooo

:o I really wonder how you do this kind of stuff in GIMP.
3 layers, bg and white 2 layers of font - Pirulen
White layer filled with dark gray, add noise effect
Motion blur 0 degrees
Fill 'V' white, select with wand, grow selection, feather, fill with blue
Select 'hustle', fill with light gray to dark gray gradient, shrink selection, re-select, fill with lighter gray (for the thin border)
duplicate hustle layer, motion blur 0 degrees to bottom, opacity 40% to top
Spray brush black and white at 10% opacity to highlight annd darken the stainless steel bg
voila

:b

Just mess around with random tools when you're bored lol
You can't do yourself any harm ;D

And check the interwebs for small tutorials to give you a general idea of things. They might be photoshop tutorials, but you can recreate most of them in gimp with imporvisation.

Best advice for Photoshop/GIMP.

Also, the pen tool is amazing. It's kind of weird/dififcult at first but you can teach yourself how it operates by just using it over time. It has soo many uses.
