@Everyone, but mostly Gheb: I want to apologize for my activity in this game. There's no excuse, and I really regret the lack of contribution and effort I made. Oftentimes I would altogether forget I was even playing in this and neglect to visit the quicktopic. It is a really great idea and I feel bad that all of Gheb's effort went to waste, so I hope this can be reused at some point with active players.

I was busy not failing Calculus, which occupied almost all of the month of April. I also had little investment partially as a result of having my character generated FOR me, rather than like, actually hunting me down on Skype and getting me to do it. I mean yeah, I was PM'd, but other than that it just started and all of a sudden I was some old professor dude.

I realized I wasn't going to be able to commit time and asked for replacement, so Gheb saying "I would've had to replace more people anyway" is bull**** and if he really cared he'd have done so rather than just cancelling the game and screwing everyone else.

The amount of anger and belligerence on his part is unwarranted in my opinion.

This is entirely your own fault, and you pawning off blame is extremely ridiculous. If you didnt have enough time to devote to this, you shouldn't have signed up. 15 minutes, thrice a week, that's all that was needed. You could have done it.

I thought I had time WHEN I signed up. I asked to be replaced when I realized I didn't.

How did you not have 15 minutes, three times a week? Were you getting no sleep?

I won't pretend I didn't have 15 minutes. It's a matter of what other things were a priority.

I admit fault in that I could have found time to commit, but I will not sit here and let the mod blame inactivity when he didn't look for any replacements to my knowledge. My slot was basically a blank slate, and anyone who was interested could have taken it, but I don't believe he even looked.

If he had searched for replacements, yeah, I'd feel worse about it, but when we're told

"With the exception of Orboknown you all have failed to post within a considerable amount of time. I have no intentions to search replacements for half the game's roster so unless you don't care about this game getting cancelled you better start posting as soon as you can."

It was 4 people, and to my knowledge I was the only one who actually ASKED for replacement.

Sue me if I don't have much sympathy and get a little irked when a mod blames inactivity and then refuses to look for replacements.

I've said my piece on the subject. I'm sorry it ended up getting canceled.

Joey, Mashad, the entirety of group 3, you, and Kantrip. That is 7 of the 12 players which is over half the roster.

Gheb the biggest thing I'd want to tell you is to not only have one set outcome in mind. Sure, we were presented with choices in my mission, but there was always very clearly a 'correct' answer to what we were given (save for maybe taking the long way through Viridian Forest, though I can't imagine why we would have). The best example I can think of for this was when you told us about the little bazaar full of thrift shops or whatever. That place was packed with people and random goods, and the odds of us stumbling onto at least something useful to us was pretty high I thought. Instead we just walked over and then left after being told there was nothing there of use to us.

So yeah, just give a bit more control to the players, and don't be afraid to characterize an NPC. If a player talks to a shopkeeper, make him more than just a guy who rattles off prices. Take the pokemart shopkeeper we met in Viridian. Considering where he works in proximity to the 'bad' part of Viridian, he's probably not doing great for himself. Personally I'd give him a bit of bigotry towards the lower class that lives just outside his range, just to give him a little flavor. Hell you could even rationalize it with him being insecure about being so low on the chain that he needs to feel big by taking it out on the one class below him. Just like that, you've not only developed a character but also given the whole town a bit more depth. Stuff like that goes a long way for players.

Uhhhh oh and I'd try to increase the pacing a bit. I understand that you were highly limited by activity on the player's ends, but over the entire course of what we did play we just walked through a forest and did some shopping really. I have a sneaking suspicion that things were going to kick into a MUCH higher gear soon after, but it took way longer than I would have liked to reach that point. (tbh, this whole issue might stem from being spoiled from AIM based AGames where everything resolves instantaneously rather than over the course of several days)

Other than that, you did a magnificent job constructing a world that was not only believable in the scope of the pokemon universe but was also fun just reading about. Your scenarios were well designed (if a bit slow initially) and had a ton of potential for fun times down the road. I think it would be a shame to let such a fun idea die here personally, but its your call in the end.

On another note, Prof. Bookenlearn was clearly the best character in the game

To be fair, that bazaar played more into our scenario, and I imagine that Gheb was concerned about the two stories crossing into each other. But otherwise I agree. Iunno, it just seemed a bit limited compared to Batman and what not. Probably woulda changed as we got into it, but we didn't. I do agree with the pacing issue though. I dont really know what you had in mind for us while we were waiting for the bazaar to close, but if it really was just wait til the bazaar closed... Plus, had I not suggested a pokemon battle right before this closed, how long would it have taken to get to the pokemon part of our scenario? Each scenario should have had at least one early battle for everyone, to get a feel for combat, and also a taste of what's to come.

I do want to note that it did seem like it was about to get really fun, and I know there were quite a few people disappointed they didn't get in, and school is starting to be over for a lotta people, so maybe we can reset and try again? If you don't want to just replace characters (which I wouldn't reccomend anyways, part of the fun is playing your own character), and you don't want to just restart the scenarios with a few new players, just rearrange the groups a bit or run the other scenarios. I'd still be interested in playing.

That reminds me, bumping into other player characters unexpectedly is (I think) one of the coolest things you can throw at someone in an AGame, I'd encourage story overlaps if its a reasonable thing to happen at any point. Especially when those two groups don't have the same goals in mind.

To be fair, Ronike, I was actively avoiding combat scenarios because I didn't want to show any sort of capabilities in a scenario where anyone could see. I didn't know what else was gonna happen though, so I was fine with it.

Well, I'm not sure how many things I should clarify right now considering how many people are interested in a re-mix of this and I don't want to spoil too much.

@Glyph

Most of the slow pace was coming from me waiting to see if Redcell would post or not. Aim / Skype is inconvenient because everybody needs to be on at the same time and I live in a completely different timezone. The "limited" options you had was just in the beginning ... like, imagine playing a RPG ... most of the time you'll get more options to explore over time. In the beginning I had to make sure that you get the right information and get to the right places so I had to guide you at first a little bit. I wouldn't have done that later and you would've been free the explore pretty much the whole area you would've ended up in.

@Ronike

The battle aspect would've started at the latest by the time you discover and infiltrate the hidden team rocket hideout. You were really on the right track for it too: The guy who sold the modems was a rocket agent - with the help of the modems made by team rocket they tried to gain control over the Viridian City area by manipulating the internet. By the time the market closed you'd have gotten to follow the guy and find the hidden entrance to the hideout. Then it would've become a combo of stealth + battle mission. You were just about to finish the prologue.

oh word this is played solely through quicktopics?

/in next

:phone:
Yeah, I do QTs only because of timezone differences. You can also in the next since I can trust you to be active.

Ronike, Ryker, Glyph, Orbo, Marshy can in the next for sure. Maybe I'll do it with only 8 players next time and add Bing, BSL and some other player I can trust 100% to keep it up. What would you think of that?

@Gheb: Are you getting me and Raz mixed up or did we both say the same thing?
Yes, I did. Raziek did not ask for a character to be created.

He still never mentioned that he had any issues with it so he was still lying -.-

That's a very fair point, but rather than just railroad us to the correct destination by limiting our options, why not just direct us through more natural means? Its much more immersive to let us stumble onto the answers to our problems ourselves rather than just be herded to the correct location.

Take, again, our exploration of the bazaar. Just throw in a random NPC for us to talk to, who could easily:
-tell us we weren't going to find anything of any great interest there
-point us in the right direction

So yeah, I completely understand the need of getting the group to certain places at certain times. I'd just try to approach it using the world you've already made a bit, if that makes sense. Its like 5 am and I'm not exactly on top of my game for articulation haha

You mean letting 'the world' talk, rather than the mod? I can do that next time if yall like that better.

Apologies to Gheb. I wanted to participate but going to the QuickTopic wasn't really in my system. By the time it was, Gorf was gone.

I'll sit the next one out so you don't have that unsure factor in there.

I haven't done squat in dGames for a long time but if you trust me to keep active I know I've wanted to participate in this. It'll be especially easier with school letting out in the next few days.

I know you wanted to and although you have no recent history of activity in dGames I'm going to give you the chance. I'd need some time to get everything set up again though.

Okay so wait.. how do these Quick topic things work?

If Im getting this correct, you just post actions in a thread type of thing?

:S
yeah. a quicktopic is a thread. the website doesn't allow it to be google-search-able which makes it really useful for mafia stuff. anyone with a link to the quicktopic can post there.

GUYS WHO AREN'T USED TO CHECKING THE QUICKTOPIC:

PIN THE TAB SO IT'S ALWAYS UP. FIREFOX AND CHROME BOTH HAVE THIS FUNCTION. RIGHT CLICK IT ->PIN AS APP TAB

gheb, make that a rule.

a pinned tab? it isnt annoying at all. Your home page stays your homepage, and the pinned tabs are off to the left. its really useful.

Both of those would be of incredible help, since that was my biggest issue with it: Forgetting that the QT tab existed.
