what games, what updates (like just wii system update?) couldn't you just update? it's not gonna kill the HBC is it? and if so, can't you just downgrade your wii system version after the game has run the first time?

what game is asking you?

I wanna try the new sonic and the black knight game, yeah I know it looks terrible, but I gotta at least try it. What's the worst thing that can happen from updating your wii with homebrew in it?

IIRC. This is pretty much the only way to skip disc updates. :|

You also need v3.2.

And like most HBC apps, you only brick your console when you dont know what your doing.
I have 3.2, and that's the exact problem, I don't know what I'm doing. Doing something risky and not having very much knowledge in it is far too risky for me to go poking around with stuff I don't understand.

From my knowledge there isn't an update out for the wii past v3.4, which they have a working homebrew for. According to my knowledge, the worst thing that can happen is it deletes homebrew.

Hmm..well that's certainly troublesome. All this trouble just so I can play brawl+..is it worth it? I wanna be able to play other games with it being a pain in the ***..

The installation instructions are simple, and they give you a list of things you want done. You pretty much just have to check the box that says disable disc updates and apply.

Hell, Ill do a test video for you if you want.

That would be nice, how does such an inconvenient thing make it possible for this game to become tourney material? This is a real set back for brawl+'s goal..

Hm? That's interesting..so if that's true, what's all the fuss about not updating your wii?
Because it will cause issues with homebrew apps such as DVDX/mplayer and prevents people from installing HBC via Twilight Hack and what not.

Also, all the updates thusfar have NOT removed HBC, but we have no clue if they will in the future.

There is plenty to fuss about because it takes a while for Team Twiizers to figure out what updates will do to your console.

3.5 was recently released and no one knows what it does indefinately. On the homepage of Wiibrew.org. They tell you DO NOT update because of the potential dangers.

Though more than likely, if all you have is HBC and Gecko OS and no other mods, you wont be affected by homebrew if thats what you stick to, but when you decide to branch out via homebrew, thats when issues come along for the ride.

EDIT: That, and 3.2 is THE best software for homebrew.

EDIT2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1fCbD51Wt8 - Video of starfall.

Posted the video.

Ultimately, imo, you lose more when you update, but thats because I see homebrew as a potential to do alot. You can take the risk if you only plan on sticking to B+, but ultimately something might happen that requires you to have an older firmware, ie GeckoOS 2 or something of the sort.

In my honest opinion, I would stick with 3.2, regardless if I was going to stay on only B+ or not, just in case something homebrew/B+ related pops up.

But hey, do what you want. You have my input. And I'm not holding a gun to your head.

Yeeep.

The funny thing is, if you do this system update, youll still have to do a disc update the next time around, and who knows WHAT 3.6 can do to your console.

Where as just disabling the FORCED update to keep it optional lets you enjoy new games with a 1 time process, and when wiibrew.org says its safe to update, then you can update with no worry.

Thats another way to look at it.

Forced updates are forced for a reason.

Hmm..wiibrew.org, sez (currently) updating is not going to ruin or remove homebrew. I just found out I have 3.4. lol.

3.4 has the ability to update your Wii WITHOUT NOTIFYING YOU.

Check the user agreement.

And GHNeko, 3.5 was an individual update for Korea ONLY to catch them up with the rest of the wii regions.

Okay if you want to play newer games that requires an "update" then all you have to do is start the game using Gecko OS, which will automatically bypass the necessity to so-called "updating" your firmware.

And don't worry, you don't need codes to run the game either.

Just you you guys know, I've never heard of Starfall bricking anyone's Wii ever. It's just a disclaimer in case it happens for some bizarre reason. Go ahead and use it without worry. Just don't install the region free GCN option because it doesn't work.

I have the "update skipper", "hold y for recovery menu" and "disable recovery menu disk check" installed. Also "hold y for recovery menu" is useless without "disable recovery menu disk check". I also recommend you keep a copy of the Twilight hack on your Wii at all times.

really? I thought this was the easiest way to track HBC and delete it from your system or do anything else that's harmful. Must be a rumor so I shall do this

the only thing about 3.4 is nintendo COULD, and that is HYPOTHETICALLY remove your HBC, but that does not mean it WILL, and I haven't experienced that, if I were you I would just update, there shouldn't be any issues. If you are really worried just go to the trouble of downgrading after the initial boot of your new game every time you get a new game you would have to.

if that is too much hassle then just don't downgrade. 3.4 itself doesn't do a lot, all it does is keep you from installing HBC if you don't already have it installed (which you do) and it also allows nintendo to auto update your system without you clicking "yes" but until they do that you shouldn't have any issues what so ever.

IF you have system menu 3.4, then you should disable wiiconnect24 asap (this is what allows them to update your wii; don't worry as you'll still be able to play online). When they do release a new update, you will not have any choice but to accept it if you have not done this.

Thats pretty much why I dont want to update, because if it is forced, 3.5 to 3.x and beyond can do something to potentially kill homebrew.

Sure you can turn off Connect24, but there are people who do use Connect24, like me for replays and channels.

the second most used channel on my console is Everyone Votes because I like analyzing results from a psychologic view point.

Also, news channel because I want to keep up-to-date with my technology.

I also get replays from friends for combo videos and what not. There is too much homebrew potential at risk in my eyes from upgrading. But then again, I'm into the homebrew scene because nintendo has nothing they can ever offer me that is worth my time.
