Playing an aggressive Marth

I know this may sound stupid, but does anyone have any tips for playing an aggressive Marth or is it just not possible? Many thanks :bee:

In all seriousness though I'd love to see Leffen Dart or one of the more aggro-y players give a writeup on the ins and outs of playing an aggro marth, maybe not a mango style aggressiveness, but more than just DD grab camping.

In all seriousness this is a given. You can't just DD grab camp and expect to beat good people as that's super obvious and easy to counter. Every good Marth has to get good at approaching at some point or another.

approaching is easy, it's approaching with aerials that is difficult..but mainly against fox (gets in under your aerials), falco (shoots you out of the sky), and falcon( ***** marth in the air).

the rest of the cast is relatively easy to approach in the air or on the ground.

Actually i spent all of yesterday experimenting with approaching with aerials even in the matchups where it's not safe...you exert a bit more pressure but are far more vulnerable....also, you get cooler looking combos..and at the end of the day, what's more important, tourney placement or combo video footage??

We play this game for the combos. Otherwise we'd play brawl.

Nah. You play 64 to get away from falco and to use dk like a real character

I disagree, Marth can approach. You just can't be stupid by going in and throwing nairs around like you just learned to SHFFL.

Marth can approach with a number of things:

1) Grabbing: Given this is an obvious thing for Marth to do, you're not going to simply walk up and grab your opponent. Mixing DD in when it looks like you're about to grab will help a lot, and from there you can lock your opponent on the ground, along with obvious comboing.

2) D-Tilt: A lot of people use it more as a CC/gtfo me move. By spacing it well (assuming it hits their shield), it can lead to a # of different options, such as D-Tilt --> Grab (taking advantage of the IASA frames), into another D-Tilt (again, use the damn IASA frames so you don't get your sword grabbed), or retreating N-Air or F-Air/Double F-Air away. I wouldn't use it more than twice in one poking though, cause then they usually start to figure out the timing for it so they can grab you. Regardless, it applies pressure while maintaining control.

3) Spaced F-Airs/Double F-Airs: If you SPACE them correctly (ie barely hitting with the tip) it allows you to apply additional pressure. By mixing it up between single ones and doubles, you won't become as predictable in your approach. These can also condition well for Tamahawk grabs, but be weary of OoS tricks.

Anyways, those are the three main ones I use. I used to be that guy that just liked to run in and N-Air a lot but I got punished for it so I actually had to find real ways to approach. There's other ways to approach to, but they aren't as consistent as these ones here.

There isn't much to say about the aggressive style.
The only helpful thing i can say is make sure you get the hit otherwise you'll be stunned that you missed and have to regroup and in that time you will probably lose.

For aggro approach i like run -> shield in their face xd
May sound stupid but works :0, they often spot dodge, roll, or attack, which all of them can be punished.
Also if you time correctly, you can get a shield parry (don't know if its called that way, when you block just when they hit and you get less shield-stun) and punish more efficiently.


Also there are certain characters that can be aproached with full jump rising Fair without being punished (you can 2nd jump away after Fair ends). Those chars are the ones that have slow jump action, like jigglypuff for example.
Sadly most high/top tier chars have fast jumps (except peach, but still don't know if it is unpunishable against her).

Tell me if im wrong, i can't try it out cause i got no one to play with but im almost sure it is an available option.
