I do use the swift sail, it does make the ride fun. The cyclone system also makes life much easier. Either way the auction is really funny. Also all of the Islands at night are freakishly pretty. :D

I don't like the Swift Sail. It removes all reasons to use the Wind Waker, so I didn't get it. I haven't ever finished the game, though, so maybe it gets better as time goes on.

I stopped playing when I had to collect the Triforce Pieces. It got so boring.

Hmm, I suppose the triforce piece-collecting can be a little arduous. I dunno. IT'S JUST SO PRETTY I'VE NEVER KNOWN A GAME THAT I'D LOVE SO MUCH PURELY BECAUSE IT LOOKS AMAZING AND I WANT THAT WORLD TO BE REAL ;_;

So my friend was with me when I played Mother 3 for two days, and he didn't know that Fassad was evil. (He knows pretty much every major plot detail in M3 though.) Needless to say, hilarity ensued when we played chapter 3.
Best thing about Chapter 3

Ahhh I was wondering where that part of the Funky Monkey Dance music came from! Now I remember. Thanks a lot. Personally I love the dance itself, but it's difficult to get the music for just the dance by itself because it's quite short. :p

Is it weird that I kind of want to see Funky Monkey Dance as a track in SSB?

Monkey's Delivery Service is one of those songs that oddly makes me want to cry a little. Mind of a Thief is another. The MOTHER songs were the first soundtrack I really got into, as someone who doesn't usually play games for their music.

Any MOTHER game in a Wind Waker style would be absolutely beautiful. Brings a tear to my eye. (Actually, funny story; I never ever ever cry at books, movies, plays, or video games. MOTHER 3 is basically the only piece of media to ever make me legitimately cry. The only reason I held my tears through the first two was because of The Rule).

Speaking of, I've been meaning to do a Let's Play commentary dealie of the first MOTHER game (I'm thinking minus the Easy Ring and edited so the grinding doesn't get too obnoxious). Does that sound like a good idea/would anyone watch it?

I've made up my mind. Sometime soon I'll get Mother and play through. I want to experience and love all 3 kiddos. Also I want to see the details behind Giegue. Ninten can expect me soon! ;)

Grinding will be interesting. Knowing my playstyle, hopefully it'll actually be quite fun. I'm the kind of guy who gets obsessed with grinding in particular patterns, and also when I think there's a boss up ahead I do my best to just avoid everything so as not to waste any resources. :p

The first time I tried Mother 1 was at a traditional Japanese Inn that had a Famicom. Of course, I didn't understand Japanese, but I remember fighting the crow.

I did get halfway through Mother 1 before. The main thing I remember is the zoo being a nightmare.

I can relate to you, something about this song feels so sad...
Also I have had this picture for a long time and now I can finally use it...

Also if you want to do a lets play then go for it, and it would definitely be ideal to edit out all the grinding. The Easy Ring is your choice but if you like more of a challenge then I definitely would avoid using it but there's going to be A LOT of grinding being edited out.

Man, we need a HD remaster of all 3 mother games.

**** what Itoi says, we Mother fans still living bruh.
He just said HE was done making Mother stuff. He never said he took issue with others making Mother stuff. In fact, he said he'd rather be the player than the creator if an official Mother 4 was ever made. It makes me wonder if he knows of the fanmade Mother 4...

I'm pretty confident he knows about it, the unfortunate thing is that there won't (or isn't) a Japanese translation for it... yet. Oh the irony...

Even though I've grown up with random encounters in Pokémon, I do prefer the EB/M3 way of letting you avoid enemies or sneak up on them.

I tried MOTHER 1 but even with the item Tomato added to lower encounter rate, it was still too much for me. I dunno if I'll ever be motivated to try and make progress in it at all - let alone beat it.

Mother 1 has a lot of non-visible random encounters with some common enemies being nearly as strong as bosses and needs quite some grinding (if i recall correctly)

You just barely finished up that one elephant that killed half your party? Well, 2 pixels later there will be a new one

if you don't mind grinding, love mother/earthbound and are not easily frustrated, then mother 1 is a great game, you learn more about Giygas and ninten and everything

I'm not surprised by the whole random encounters thing, I've played a lot of Final Fantasy and Pokémon among other things before. In EB I barely had to grind at all. Mother 3 I found grinding made my life a lot easier in some cases so I did it, but I think I'll be surprisingly okay with it. I also don't expect Mother to be as intuitive as EB or M3, obviously as their predecessor it stands to reason it may not have the same tricks because it is a little more primitive. But I reckon it can be done, and I'll certainly give it a try and do my best to enjoy it.

Knowing Itoi's style though, and don't spoil for me, my biggest question is going to be about Giegue. I'm wondering whether he'll be the equivalent of an insanely difficult boss or, like the later two final bosses, have a trick to him.

I'll find out when I play. With any luck I'll download it sometime this week.

I'm guessing I'll need a fan translation for it too?

I don't mind random encounters. What I do mind is when I can't take 5 steps without fighting an enemy.

Yup mainly this, I mean I've played games like FF7 before and the random encounter didn't kill me or anything but Mother 1 is insane with those spawn rates.

I suppose that's fair. I hear PK Beam is meant to be a bit OP though once you get it late game though right?

If it contains spoilers, you don't have to answer that. :p

hmm, so you don't realy know a lot about Giygas and his background and everything tied to that, so you definitely need to play mother 1, realy sets earthbound + its final fight in a whole different light

edit : i also remember there being a fanmade mother 1 remake using the earthbound engine, i don't if it is just mother 1 with earthbound graphics or a changed mother 1, i also remember this to be "work in progress" , but it might be finished by know

but if you never played mother 1, I'd say playing the original first would be better, since it will feel different

The only thing I am reasonably sure of is that Giegue is tied to Giygas (they're probably the same entity). And I think Giegue was part of an experiment of some sort? Something that caused him to go blind with hatred... Maybe. It's too mewtwo-ish, but that's kinda what I have in my head. I'll find out, though, so don't tell me!

One of my favorite parts of MOTHER 1's development is that towards the end of development, things were getting so rushed that balance for certain parts of the game needed to be skated over. The Holy Loly mountain (already intended to be the hardest segment of the game, because it was basically the final level) was not even touched for balancing when the game was shipped. Nobody had time to test it. And it really shows. X)

I need to figure out why I'll suddenly stop receiving notifications from threads I'm watching...

Anyway I started playing Mother 3 today (and NOT Mother 3 + Earthbound at once like PKBeam suggested, gotta save some good stuff for later) and the memories are flooding back, it's too much to handle...

Currently listening to the soundtrack while writing up assignments. It's amazing how this game makes me want to cry pretty much always. There's just something about it, I guess. :')

(EDIT: Thinking on it, maybe it's my workload that makes me want to cry.)

Mother 3 is just beautifully put together. The music, the visuals, the story, the gameplay...

I listen to Mother 3i pretty frequently.

Still need the whole soundtrack to the game itself on my iPod, though.

****.

Now I'm nervous again.

The reason why it slowed down in the first place was because we had maintenance done over the weekend.

Now if we go over our remaining download limit, which is 11.97GB, my internet will slow down... again :(

And then I won't be able to download Mewtwo or the update.

Fml.
