Ben what your doing makes no sense I'm pretty sure there has been teams that have beaten the top players before for instance me and Joe teamed up for the first time at smash GT and we managed to beat Jam and Z. So it can be done.

Ben, so what if that happens? By Charles doing that, he is teaming with Aaron since they work well together as a team (and not because they're the best two players, it's because they have the best teamwork - there's a reason WHY the results for doubles are given primarily in a team name format), that in itself is skill since he's smart enough to choose who he synchronises well with, and it includes all the time he spends working with prof to improve their teamwork (charles and aaron is literally one of the few teams I see doing this since they realise how important teamwork is over individual skill in doubles). On the flip side, how on Earth does random take any skill? It's only ever used when there's nothing else you can do to make it fair.

lol I'm sorry prof but stop saying bull**** and flaming, grow up and instead maybe think about how drawn partner will work. This is gonna fall on deaf ears and will make you rant a lot more but I'm gonna say this one more time because you clearly can't read as I've said it many times- I am not doing this to make the top players lose.

Right this is getting ridiculous, I don't know why so many of you are objecting to this. No, it's not a stupid idea and yes, I have thought about it. I'm trying to change the tournament for the better but all I'm getting is a shoveload of bull**** in the form of whinning posts. To be honest I expect this much from the UK. Drawn partner basically means- a hugley fairer tournament for every player and a more competive tournament. I am not doing this so that Charles and Pro don't team together. (let me remind you yet again)

I am not doing this to make the top players lose

In fact, I would expect Charles and Pro to be in the finals in some form or another anyway. Top players might team together anyway or they might not.

oh btw- TC, theres chosing team partners is not competitive. Lets look at this example. I ask Charles to team. He says no (shocker!) because he can team with professor pro.

With teams, picking teams partners has no skill, so I'm taking this out of the equation
You want it to be fairer so you we cannot win lol.

Stop lying and and bull****ting and admit when you want something done, you have been complaining about me and charles winning in doubles and when you host a tournament you prevent us from teaming.....coincidence, I think not loool.

Teaming with random people is dumb cos I for one would like to team with Fuzzy like loads of people would like to team with your friends.

I will let you carry on with your selfish antics, hopefully you get someone **** and plays terrible since you obviously want someone good loool.

Your response to TC is dumb, don't speak like that to him unless you have something smart to say.

IN THE END OF YOUR SELFISH MENTALITY IM DEFINTELY NOT COMING TO THIS ANYWAY LOL. NOTHING TO DO WITH CRYING IT'S JUST THE PRINCIPLE OF SOMEONE BEING SELFISH AND DUMB!

AIKO I AM DONE SO DON'T DELETE THIS POST LOL.

Sorry Ben, but drawn partners is not competatively viable, due to one important factor, luck.

In the same way you ban dodgy stages, or items, by something completely dependant on chance, you could end up losing due to the other player getting lucky. Its like saying that everyone should pick a character out of a hat and use it for the rest of the tournement. Sure the best player has the best chance, but it is completely unfair.

In competition, fairness is making sure that how well you do is dependant solely on your skill, and not the flip of a coin.

While some poker players can play better, the outcome is influenced by the luck of the draw. Surely this is similar to the current situation for the doubles tournement.

edit: it took me a while to form this arguement, and due to this, I missed Aikos request not to participate in the conversation, so I shall not participate further.

I spoke to Ben on msn by myself and I told him he better change it back to normal doubles if you want me to attend.

He got scared and realized the value of me attending this tournament and changed it back to Normal doubles.

sooo I've decided to scrap random doubles for now as it's too unpopular. It's going to be normal doubles for now, but I rly want a better doubles tournament!!! Maybe people can talk about teaming? If they live near each other, practice?

just look at the US, teams have potential and its about working together not the skill of players always

I know there are already some good teams in the UK

- Me + Prof
- VA + Swizzy
- Joe + Coey
- Frostbyte + Chrisboi/Edwin
- Kman + His Brothers
- Dave Gay's Teams
- Zeppo + Grayfox
- Jam + ?

I reckon that's a good way to do it, Ben. Find the team-mate you want to stick with (for whatever reasons you want) and practice with them to improve your teamwork, it's just I don't think that happens enough over here.

Thank god drawn doubles was scrapped, playing with dave for the last year wouldve been totally meaningless.

And as fuzz pointed out, there are actual teams in the UK, its not just good people picking good people, its people playing with people they enjoy playing with

And hugo, the only reason u liked the idea is cos noone in our crew wants to team with you anymore lool.

Anyway, no matter the date or the price, I'll be at this tournament, couldnt miss it if I tried

I'd just like to add that if DSD9 and I are both attending this tourney we are teaming and will **** you all MWHAHAHAHAHA!!! Lol jk jk, although the first part is probably true. Also props to Ben for changing back to normal doubles - saved me a post arguing for it ha. ALSO Tamoo i'll say here rather than in the London monthly thread where I read you beat Joe recently (congrats obv) i'd like to take you up on the wager along with JJlinyard that only Fuzz and Prof's foxs will challenge you now. Next tourney we both be at MONEY MATCH *****! :p (and that's all fox-jiggs with no gay *** stages like JUNGLE JAPES ZOMG [or Greens Greens which is also very gay loooooool])

L-J: lol u got me wrong, Im saying that i still feel i dont have a chance against them, but i have a chance against other foxes out there. Im not saying other foxes dont challenge me anymore lool, ofc i still find it hard. But yeah, go mm

Joe: Id love to team with ya mate, it all depends if dave comes to the same tournaments, because if he's there, im def teaming with him, but if he's not, ill def be up for teaming with you.

So can people say when a date is good for them? Late november seems fine to me but I'm only willing to come to this if enough people go.

same as alan, id want an attendence of 30 melee players its a lovely 8 hours travel. you should push for the londoners as theyre 2 hours away and it costs them a bag of chips to get there.

Pro- I aint feeling the smash love these days. just seems crap and boring

EDIT: if anyone is driving past manchester id like a lift lol

I may come but, as with many others, it would have to be a healthy attendance to make the trip worth it. It's like a 30 year bus journey from Scotland.

well I'm a little disappointed already at some people saying they won't attend unless certain conditions are met, you rly should com anyway as you yourselves contribute to the attendance and it's like you've already put this down as another one with poor attendance. I don't want any of this negativity. By the way, Londoners I'm not worried about as they actually have a rly good attendance and I can count on them to come.

Me and Dacacia will need to organise a date in the next week or so, bear in mind this thread was put up early to get interst up and to talk about which date would be best. Again I ask if any of you can't do a certain date, let me know. Aiko said he's busy late November so I may change it to early December anyway.

All these people saying they won't come because of attendance are themselves hurting the attendance, come on guys come to this! Last phantom hits was a great tournament and had free venue (a big one at that) and plenty of housing. Plus all that went had a great time and we had random crews

We need to have another crew battle lol, I refuse to let our crew to be anywhere near worst crew in UK lol

If he decides to turn up, def accept him as part of your crew, he's a saint at heart.

If Inertia doesnt go, we might consider givin u cheez as he's a southamptoner now as long as we still have 4 ppl I guess.

Ben get a list up of people who are confirmed and who are interested. I've said I will come just get the date sorted asap so I can actually get there cheap unless someone is offering a lift :)

£20 from London would be the standard return fair with railcard but you know you can get there and back really cheap with the greyhound coaches.

I still need to talk to Duncan and the president of the game society until we can have a date but don't worry, I will get a date confirmed as soon as I can and the fares will be cheap as late November/ early December is a while away.

Well it isn't really a negative attitude but I don't have many free weekends or money to spend, plus the fact that its a hell of a journey. I think it's pretty reasonable to want the attendance to be fairly large to make it worth it for attendance, if its only like 15 people and i spend 50 quid gettin there and 12 hours down on the bus id be pensive.

Also not making any assumptions on the lacking of attendance due to the first PH, but purely on the fact that no one seems that interested in the game right now. If there was fair Scottish interest so I'd be traveling with a few mates I'd strongly consider on that alone.

why are you feeling particularly prickish today lol?
Dunno what you are talking about lol  :)

I understand people wanting a high turnout for this event.

I think part of the reason why people are getting put off of smash is because once again the results in SINGLES are seeming predictable and there is no more rivalries or a competitive nature due to me just being pure **** and just destroying people and no1 standing a chance.

Seriously though people need to hype up a abit and play more in their own area,. that's why they are going off of it, cos they dont seem to have that much rivalries with their own region or anything big going for it....

We should tell everyone at the London Ranbat this saturday about it; a lot of them don't check smashboards, and considering it's a £2 return from Victoria, I think a fair few of them would be interested :D

Joe- I've been over to yours for smashfests regardless of turnout, same with SHS which was a long journey.

You don't need to worry about London, for many reasons they will be coming in full force and I expect you to come as well
