Amaterasu: I've always wondered this... Why is it that you main arguably the most broken character out of all the Smash game in Brawl, yet low/mid tiers in Melee? (which is, ironically, the converse of me: broken in Melee, mid/low in Brawl)

Quite a few people are still perplexed about my melee mains, and sometimes I also wonder why they do much much better than my melee top tiers. I think my character choice in both games relate to the character's coolness factor and move set. For young link/pikachu in melee and metaknight in brawl, I picked up both before knowing their spot on the tier list, because I've always secretly wanted to be a pokemon, ocarina of time rocked my world when I was like 11 and metaknight was just plain cool. But yeah, I think I gravitated towards those characters because I like their play style, all of them are pretty quick on the ground and the air, they are all really light and they have to dart in and out around opponents =)

so Chris, what are you planning to do after u finish your uni course?

That question is pretty open haha, umm so on a few fronts hmm
Start my internship either here or somewhere in Melb, from there I'll work a few years then specialise either in surgery or internal medicine.
Eventually I should land back in Melb, because the house there is partially in my name with no one to live in it, so I should keep it company and oh yeah, having family there too >.>
But either way, it'll be hard to leave wherever I'm staying because I like both Melb and Qld
On other things...go on a crazy spending spree,make/design a perfect music room, a perfect gaming room and buy a massive tank that fits a whole wall to celebrate finishing =)

Do you play Okami?

Umm, well not at the moment no. But I did play okami and I absolutely loved that game. The atmosphere, art and music really made me go wow. It was probably the most impressive game I had played since OoT, really touched something in me =) So about that time I was playing smash a lot, still fairly new – and so I changed my name from Ammeren to Amaterasu. Ammeren was a good name, if merely for the fact that no one ever ever ever took that name in anything haha.

Chris, are you aware that you regularly drive jbirds insane at every QLD tournament by beating him, because he knows that everyone in QLD is bad at brawl besides you two, so second mayaswell be last?

I thought it was quite the opposite, and I was the only one that kept him happy haha. Only saying this after watching him go stuff like pokemon trainer/DDD instead of snake. I think it'll change at any rate, there are some pretty good players popping up to challenge both him and me.

On a more serious note, how do you rate QLD atm? Do we still dominate melee? Are we that far behind in brawl? How could we improve as a state in general? How does it feel like being the undeniable #1 in QLD? Do you think Kas would pose a threat if he played brawl?

QLD is strong at melee, although it is hard to say since the top players don't really play as much here compared to other states I think. However, when our melee top players are on their game, they are pretty hard to beat I think. Brawl is strange, I think if we had a proper representation of people in brawl we would do a lot better. However, I still think QLD's brawl platers lack a bit of consistency, its hard for me to gauge how far behind we are.

Umm to improve, well we have lots of small groups, but people don't learn about each other's play style/play against other people enough. It's a shame that it's the same few people at the top placings, but hopefully that will change. I don't really feel like I'm a amazing brawl player or anything, so I have mixed feelings about being that position in QLD. I would love for someone(has to be nice) to topple me, and go even if not beat the other top players in the country. I just feel as though I don't deserve the spot as so many people who place around me know so much more about the game, or play it so much more. I think Kas could be a very good brawl player, I tell him this all the time <3

Finally, do we stand a chance at robocop? lol.

Umm, probably not for brawl with all the amazing players there. But I think the same can be said for most of the aussie players haha.
We do have a decent contingency going down, so I think we got a good shot at doing well!

How do you feel about QLD's Smash state compared to NSW and VIC?

Well, I think QLD is a bit behind in brawl, even if not slightly ahead in melee. Although winning and losing aside, I think queensland's smash is a bit more relaxed and less competitive than the other states, which doesn't mean we are worse (>^^)>

Do you think our average player is just as skilled as theirs?

Umm have no idea but I'm guessing it would be about the same, granted other states tend to have more players

What are your favourite MU's on Melee & Brawl?

Melee: Captain falcon in melee, which I think can be unwinnable against pikachu or a fox that can't recover =)
Brawl: Snake, probably because of all the MU experience that I have

What's the most enlightening book you've ever read?

Hmm, I don't take as many life lessons etc from books, but probably the one that touched me was the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. It's pretty big but epic =)

You don't keep in touch on the boards; how do you keep up with the metagame and seem to perform so consistently high each time?

I keep up to date with QLD related stuff or tourneys I'll attend, I just lurk a bit but I'm there =D But yeah, with the metagame...I don't keep up, at least not at the moment. I am consistently surprised about things that people knew about like months ago =( I think I do decently well because people seem to get a bit nervous when they play me for some reason, and also I have a lot of luck haha.

In your opinion, who was the most influential or important doctor/scientist who ever lived?

Ahh...this is hard. I vaguely know of a lot of Drs, but wouldn't be able to rattle off their name for you haha. Not to mention there would be too much, I guess Hippocrates, and Dr. John Snow who worked towards the beginnings of epidemiology were really important. I think people focus so much on the disease and treatment, but overlook epidemiology which allows you to help so many more people if that's what you want as a Dr. Anyway, hmm, too many to list!

What is your favourite Pokemon?

I would have to say...Charizard <3

Aww this is tough, would be charmander closely followed by squirtle and then Bulbasaur

Have you always wanted to get into medicine?

Yes, but the passion grew from around year 10

Do enjoy your studies?

Yeah, I an really really grateful that I'm doing a course that gives me a lot of joy studying, although if I was stuck in most other courses, I'd probably still enjoy them =)

Do you get stressed around assessment time?

Yes and no. Conscientiously no, I am mega relaxed and I don't freak out or cram. But around exam times, my sleep time decreases quite a few hours and my brain is always active. Not to mention that anything anyone says to me around exam time, I tend to remember for ages because my brain is thinking 'gotta know everything' haha

How do you keep concentration doing 3 semesters a year (or whatever it is) whilst most people are on holidays?

Well, there are a few things,
There is just so much work that I don't really think about how much I'm concentrating, but I guess my enjoyment of the subject, my fear of being a bad doctor and my innate nerdyness allow me to continue on haha.

If you had to pick one particular OST, what would it be?

Ah...this is very hard. I...will go with...donkey kong country 2
That soundtrack brings out so many emotions in me

What is your favorite game genre?

Hard because I play things from RTS, RPGs, action etc
I would say, action adventure/hack 'n' slash titles =)

Did you ever consider playing any other fighting based games?

No, people have tried to get me into both tekkan 6 and SFIV without success. Although, I am really interested in MvC3 because of the character roster. And you did not wanna vs me in digimon rumble arena haha

When did your passion for Music start?

I started music when I was 3, although my passion really evolved around year 11 and has been growing since. It started off more with listening to a lot of music and is moving towards performance and composition now =)

Where do you think you will take your Music in the future?

Well, at the moment, I'm recording, composing stuff for violin in relation to video game remixes. But eventually I'll submit remixes to ocremix, start recording both acoustic guitar and violin. And do a lot more collaborations with other artists. The one I'm working on is with a guy doing a xenogears remix, if you're curious, its the Aveh dance theme from Xenogears in which I'm doing the violin/fiddle part. So yeah, the immediate future is adding my violin parts to my own compositions, and to other people's work, because one bad violin synth in a video game remix is one too many!

You have beat me in every set we've played, however every single time I have beaten you in the first Match. The first time we played I 3 stocked you first match, and then by the last match you were 3 stocking me. Do you do this on purpose? Are you like Brood, are you analysing my playstyle? Serious question.

I don't do this on purpose, but I think unlike other people, it takes me some time to get into the groove of things. I don't consciously analyse your play style to any great depth, it's more so analysing my self and seeing where I stuff up. But yeah I think that once I break the momentum, I seem to find it a lot easier to push back and win =/ If you maintain the early lead and play solidly after that I think things could be very different in the future

How do you handle Brawl with the rest of the life? Do you put much time into it? What motivates you to get better? Do you always feel motivated?

Atm, brawl is pretty back seat. I don't put that much time into it, I mainly just play at tournaments now, but I guess I try to play a bit more smarter instead of putting all the hours in. I feel a decent amount of motivation to win, but I just don't have the hours to invest into becoming the absolute best haha.

Are you going to Robocop, I haven't heard? If not, why not?

I haven't booked yet, although I'm guessing that closer to the date I'll cave in and go. I haven't really though about Robocop, just been busy with uni/music etc.

Which state has a stronger melée scene in your opinion? Melb or qld?

Uh..I'd like to think Melb, so we have a state to push our own skills higher

Why do we live so close?

It's like 5 mins drive, pretty ridiculous seeing how everyone else is at least 20-30mins away >.>

Does brawl tourney help you pay for your uni fees?

Most of the time it just helps cover petrol costs/food for the day, don't think it holds a candle to uni fees though haha

How often do you play smash and what are your tactics? :o

At the moment, once every 1-3 weeks sadly, it's pretty variable. For melee my tactics is to not screw up my tech, for brawl it's to have fun ^^

Why do you think people asked you more serious questions than Luke?

Honestly I think it's because I'm usually thought of as pretty serious, and some people are curious about me since I don't post that much, and yet my name pops up randomly for some reason =/

Do you hate Luke like I do?

Shiek, or a good marth/fox, oh, anythign Kas touches, oh and Cao's peach lol

is it true that you have a weakness to low tiers in melee?

Who told you my secret! Haha, well it just evens out the playing field, since I don't know what to do against them, and they don't know what to do against me

Of course lol, but then again we see each other once every few months

That wind galaxy from the first one was amazing. The whole level was so open, fun and clean, and it had my fav music from mario galaxy playing in the background

Umm, I guess it'd have to be my consistent placings, can't really put emphasis on any major tourney. Although the melbourne random low-ter tourney which I won was amazingly epic lol

Not giving up hope in year 11/12

What motivates you from day to day? Is it a desire for self improvement or something else?

I want to be better in everything I do, from medicine to smash and music. I enjoy working hard and seeing results, I guess that's what motivates me. And even if nothing changes, the mental fortitude I gain from persisting is good enough for me =)
Apart from self improvement, there are goals in my life that I want to achieve, for the benefit of myself and others

what's your favourite LoZ game? Will Ganondorf ever win like he deserves to? Do you think Skyward Sword looks good?

OoT hands down. Poor ganon, I really do wish he will win lol

People don't like the look of Skyward Sword, but my faith in nintendo has never been broken in over 15 years, so I'm betting on it being amazing both graphically and gameplay wise

I have a painful area on my foot, theres a patch of skin thats a bit darker then the normal skin color of the rest of the foot located on the "knuckle" of the big toe
its painful to touch but doesnt seem to be bruised

No to schostakovich's, I've played through Bruch's concerto, the first movement isn't too flash hot, but I can play/like his second one hehe. I gotta try ravel's one day hehe

I don't think it'd change much here tbh, not that many people use him. It'd probably have bigger ramifications in America

How different would you say the metagame is between brawl and melee and on what points?

They are completely different, I still feel as though the mind set of brawl and melee is drastically different, so naturally the metagame will evolve differently. However, I think melee's metagame is pretty much stable atm, it has been out for years after all haha

Which is more boring to watch? MK ditto's or Shiek ditto's (in melee of course)

He is the Doc, of course he is the best. You only have to pause the screen when he is doing his fair to realise his epicness.

In all seriousness, I sometimes suffer from annoying tics which I have to concentrate to suppress, my mind is pretty stubborn >.> Also playing big matches are pretty unnerving

Do you find you play worse under certain conditions?

Well, not having my controller, playing against the croud and playing while tired/hungry etc.
How did you get your metaknight up to skill its at currently?
I just played a tonne of people in both melb/qld and even bit of nsw guys. I guess it was the people who helped me, since people would often come up to me and ask for a game. Then proceed to have really close matches with me =)

What's the most effective thing to master with MK?

When to use/spacing his UpB both in the air, and utilisation of invincibility frames on the ground

Any particular pitfalls to watch out for?

Don't spam attacks because you can

And finally, any tips for an aspiring MK?

Umm, learn to space all his attacks and learn how to DI well with him. Good luck!
