Yeah, I went to sleep at 9 and just woke up. Now I'm screwed, and with the TSX falling 840 points I know I'm going to be busy tomorrow (today) :(

At least I'll make good money in this crisis though. Failing economy = good for me.

Sorry about the late response, I was playing Tales of Vesperia for the past few hours.

I'm a transcription specialist and consultant for the government, specializing in big business economical affairs and media relations. It's almost like an arms dealer in the sense that the worse off things are, the more work I have.

I prefer Symphonia, to be honest. Zelos is officially the coolest person ever, fictional or not. And Regal, Sheena, and Raine are all awesome characters.

In Vesperia, the combat system is far improved, the graphics are gorgeous, lots of high quality voice acting, there are more anime scenes and skits. . . but the plot is far too slow. I'm at the end of the game (there's 3 chapters) and it took until the 3rd chapter for it to really get interesting. The latter potion of the First Chapter was good, but the second chapter was BOORING.

The main character is an absolute badass though, and his sidekick is a dog who smokes a pipe. The main driving factor for me to continue was just to see much more badass they could possibly make Yuri. The answer? Very.

I saw the trailer for Vesperia, Yuri did look like a badass...But I still like Zelos/Regal far more.

All in all, Vesperia's a good game, but I'm still holding out for Symphonia 2. Lloyd is the villain? All Symphonia characters playable? WHOAMG. Return of Collette? Ugh. . .

Yeah, I love how dark Symphonia was. No matter how good your intentions were, you ended up leaving a trail of destruction and death.

Another plus about Vesperia is its difficulty. It's actually quite difficult, especially on hard. Dave (HiDef) and I were playing through the beginning. . .and lost to the 3rd boss. Repeatedly. We were blown away by how difficult it was (which I like in games.) We barely scraped by, and then he kicked my Xbox and we had to do it over. :(

I actually did find symphonia a bit easy, even on maniac. and I knew that this thread will become an unofficial secondary ottawa thread. YAY!

Yeah. Symphonia was difficult until you got Raine. Then it was GG. Regal was by and far my favorite character to play as, though. The way his specials stringed together to create an almost fighting game feel. Plus he's unshackled in Symphonia 2, and we all saw how powerful his hands were.

Wow, that's beastly. My highest combo was a Zelos spell cancel infinite, I'm not sure what my biggest legitimate combo was though.

In Vesperia I had a 99 hit combo with Yuri alone. . .then the enemy died. It's funny to see that there are actual combo videos for the battle system, for example:

So anyway, I was thinking about the idea we were tossing around last Friday, the best of Ottawa Evolution video. Should we start recording the biweekly matches? Or is it too cluttered already? I can bring a VCR or two if needed.

I think it'd be pretty cool to get some more Ottawa videos up to build our rep.

sure...as long as someone else is able to cut and edit all the footage, Cam is able to record, but since he is busy with work lately, he won't be able to do all the editing and stuff like that.

I don't have access to any video editing equipment anymore, so I don't think I could manage that portion of it. I guess we'll have to find a volunteer for that.

Yeah, me too.

P.S. Other Ottawa guys: Haha, now you have to sift through all these posts to see if anything pertinent was posted. (Spoilers, not really)

^nice.

Also I think Infzy did some recording at ToS 5. Not sure if he'd be interested in it.

How the hell does an rpg have combos? lol

Holy geez Bi-weeklies are filling up fast now!

Randy I have an interview this Wednesday, for a fulltime position as a cook, which I'll most likely get, can you put me on the waiting list? I simply can't confirm at this point because I'm not sure what my schedule will be like, I'm gonna try to get Friday evenings off though.

Two things:

1. I like the idea of having separate threads for smashfests, tiers, whatever. But there should also be a general chat thread so we can keep this thread focused on bi-weekly registration and execution. Try and keep the convos about Tales ( a good game btw /hypocrit ) in the HD remix thread there. Though why anyone would want to see Ian in HD is beyond me.

2. Not to rip anything from toronto, but tiers should be assigned a character haha. TO had that pokemon thing going on which was pretty cool. I was thinking either classic megaman or megaman X in honour of Bi-weekly X. I mean who doesn't want to be Zero on the tier list?

http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/files/Classic/ Here's an abundance of classic characters.

http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/files/X/ Here's all the X ones (Which I think are cooler because of better graphics)

This all being said, is there still a spot left for the bi-weekly on the 10th?

No there isn't actually, Ian took up the last spot, so the bi-weekly will be full unless some last minute change in plans occur.

As for the whole megaman thing...I'm actually not in charge of that, being chinese, I do not posses any artistic skill whatsoever, so it realy depends on weither or not Jobin feels like making things pretty or not.

Suo: sorry, Bi-weekly is full :(

Brian: show up this friday, we need moar melee matches :p

I've got to work in about half an hour so I'll spice up the Tier List (making sure to scramble a few names here and there) to look more like the first post.

Tales has combos because the fighting in the game is not turn-based and you can self combo hits or combo hits with other party members. But that's enough about non-bi-weekly subjects. We'll continue in the HDR thread.

1. Tales sucks because all the characters look like they're 5 years old and they wear weirder clothing than Michael Jackson. I applaud their battle system though. Tales + Final Fantasy character designer (the older ones) would equal a great game.

I don't have access to any video editing equipment anymore, so I don't think I could manage that portion of it. I guess we'll have to find a volunteer for that.
2. What kind of video editing equipment is needed? As in, what would you be recording it to? Straight to a computer to or a VHS (do those things still exist?).

1. NO YOU SUCK!

2. I know that Cameron has a VHS machine hooked up to his comp, so he is able to record stuff, however, I doubt anyone else has a VHS set up somewhere. So we should find a way to alternativly record matches.

I realize the bi-weekly is full Randy, I was just thinking that considering that it filled so quickly, and there are still people who weren't able to sign up, we should consider making a waiting list.

It would be so that if anyone can't make it, the people on the waiting list would get dibs on the open spot. Just an idea though, lemme know what you think.:)

I also suggested a while ago that we agree on some sort of method so that the same 16 people dont always get to register while leaving new comers/others out of the bi-weekly. Possible solutions: Top 2(lowers competition), Bottom 2(not really fair id say), Mid 2(those below mid may 'forfeit' to stay in).

Although I think this is the second or third bi-weekly that is full. First with a waiting list im sure. But if the bi-weekly being full is a rare event then we may not need to implement anything.

2. What kind of video editing equipment is needed? As in, what would you be recording it to? Straight to a computer to or a VHS (do those things still exist?).
(edit: The device you're looking for is either a video capture card, or a TV tuner. I swear I typed this line before the edit but I guess I didn't.)

Some good video capture cards can record straight to computer. The one I have can, but the quality sucks and is basically unwatchable. For some reason, it works better if I record to VHS first, then send the data to the TV tuner from tape.

However, it's very time consuming to do it this way, as the matches have to be sent back to the computer in real-time (ie: I have to go through every second of tape again) and then some extra time is spent encoding. Raw video takes up a LOT of space, you need to encode or your hard drive will fill up fast.

You also have to start/stop a lot to make separate videos for each match, or do what Ben said and make one big video file then cut it up later. I prefer many small videos in case there was a mistake and you have to do things over. Then, once that's all done, you have to upload everything somewhere (ie: YouTube) which also takes a lot of time.

I would estimate it takes about 3-4 minutes of work per 1 minute of video. You don't have to be at the computer for every second but you still have to do stuff pretty often. The procedure I described is all WITHOUT any editing; meaning no extra music added, or effects/transitions/etc. Basically I don't have the time or desire these days to upload 2 hours of video every biweekly.

However, if someone wants to take the VHS tapes and do it themselves, I'm ok with that.

I have a plan for the registration issues. I used the old waiting list to say that these people MIGHT be showing up, and have first priority once things became clear if they were showing up or not.

How about this:

The new waiting list is for people who didn't make it the current bi-weekly but have a GUARENTEED spot on the next? and if should someone drop out, then the first on the waiting list gets in on the bi-weekly

post thoughts.

Yea sounds pretty solid to me. People on the waiting list could always give up their guaranteed spot if they can't make it, but at least that way they are guaranteed entry into a bi-weekly.
