Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
I don't want to force people to deal with my lag.
Exactly why I don't play in tournaments (or drop out of the tournaments I've joined).

But in my opinion, due to the variety of playstyles, skill levels, characters, and... well, people in general online, I think playing online is a great way to learn the game. As far as playing your best, it's no doubt that offline is when you will play your best (unless you only use the keyboard and not a 64 controller...).

But for the most part, I think online is a great tool for improving.

my 2c:

I don't think anyone can argue that you can potentially learn a lot by playing online, since you could be exposed to combos, playstyles, etc. that you mght have never seen before. However, as a person who is extremely sensitive to lag, I fully believe that being able to beat someone online does not imply that you can beat that person on console. With that said, I personally still believe that playing a match with 1-3 frames of lag can give decent impression of someone's skill level. So for example, obviously Sheer is is a good player, but who knows whether or not he can beat person x with y stocks remaining.

IMO, if player A consistantly beats me online with 1-3 frames, player A will probably consistantly beat me offline. However, it is entirely possible that if I beat player A 25% online, I might not be able to beat him more than 5% of the time on console.

K so if online smash is fake I shouldn't have a chance against a pure console player.
Misses the point IMO. Nowhere was it said that people who play purely on console will always beat people who play purely online. Except by people trying to exaggerate the point that online smash is not representative of true skill--this doesn't mean online smash represents no skill whatsoever, lol.

I have never played online, but if I wanted to improve, I definitely would.

These are the kinds of wrong statements that cause these stupid arguments. Unless one player is using keyboard or has higher delay than the other player, two players using controllers with low delay will be an accurate representation of their skill levels. As in, if they play each other on console the variation will be very small (Two players would have to be very close in skill in order for there to be a difference between online matches and console matches).

Plus, stupid statements like these just give reasons for people like Dylan_Tnga to come up with excuses like "haha u beat me but i'd **** you on console"

the better you are, the more the delay messes up your game. 2 frames is horrible. to be able to truly say "i can take player X's character Z down to Y stock consistently," it has to be done on console.

plus who here even plays me at a horrible 2 frames? lol you have a bunch of online kids playing me at 3+ frames and thinking they have actually played me. they are delusional. see the quote below

I do better against Isai's Kirby than Superboomfan's Kirby.

Isai probably sandbags a lot more though. :ohwell:

I would guess it's closer to 100% than 80%.

Not true. Sheer and JaimeHR for example are way better than me, but they still do pretty well on high delay, on the other hand I suck on more than 4 frames, maybe because I play on console very often, I dunno.

I agree with Fireblaster. Online is for the most part an accurate representation of skill.

I've played malva on console and online. It was pretty much the same result on both.

I've also played moogle on both with the results being the same too.

There may be extreme cases with new online players or people who have to play on keyboard or different controllers but like Fireblaster said, low dealy + n64 controller is a pretty god **** good representation of skill level. Until someone can prove me wrong on that, online ssb will be legit in my mind.

Not true. Sheer and JaimeHR for example are way better than me, but they still do pretty well on high delay, on the other hand I suck on more than 4 frames, maybe because I play on console very often, I dunno.
No use in arguing that point with him. He doesn't think anyone but himself and maybe boom are good.

Someone who only plays on console will be horrible online due to frame delays. People who only play online will be horrible on console due to frame delay so small or the n64 controller (depending on there input).

As useless as it to argue with someone like smasher...

Thats totally not true smasher. I can go from online to console (where I never play) and play at the same skill level.

Sheer, ill use nemesis as a example. He played on N64 for 5 years and has a lot of experience. But when he played online he sucked like he was gav's skill level and he said it felt like his moves were taking for ever to work which was because of frame delay. Someone like you, me, malva, boomfan, anyone who has played on N64 and kaillera before knows the difference which im sure you do too. If you never played on console before and used keyboard your hole time on kaillera you would suck on console. Lucky for me, i played n64 controller on console and played on kaillera with keyboard switching and got use to both of them. Online vs Console is all depending on how long you played on one of them to depend on your actual skill level of the other. The only true way, to tell someones skill level is by playing online against player X and offline against Player X. If you beat player X both times you are better, even if you win with just 2 stocks, your better. But if its like 1 stock and 130+% then i would say its still about even.

Edit: also im not arguing. Im trying to help you understand why malva00 is flaming you and A$ about being stupid about frame delays and saying online is better then offline.

this guy played me on console when he barely started using the n64 controller. lol

That post doesn't seem to exist anymore. How strange.
and Dmoogle deleted his post. I found that quote by looking through all his posts (click on username -> statistics > find all posts by ___ then control+f "isai" through each page), but it's not there anymore. oh looks like the quicker way is click on username "find more posts by X " i did it the long way

i guess there's no point in arguing with ssb n00bs. maybe when you guys turn pro

You're allowed to disagree, but I can quote one sentence out of a detailed paragraph and make someone seem stupid too. My whole message was different than that one sentence. All I know is that I personally play much more poorly with lag than I do on console. So does everybody else. But different people can cope with the lag better than others, and that does not necessarily directly correspond to console skill.

Isai doesn't troll. He was just explaining why sheermadness and amoney were being stupid by how they compared online smash to console smash.

QFT.
Probably even at 1/2 frames the very lag sensitive players can mess up I guess, and other people can deal with it easier and do better, aswell as switching from online to console and do very well.
It's not really about the better you are the more you suffer from delay, thats for sure.

s2j is pretty worthless on the ssb64 boards. All he does is talk trash or flame. Same with lovage.

You guys should come to FL and get wrecked in melee...

and ssb64.

my post is about 1.1 times more useful than your stupid "debate" thread. What do you expect? People are never going to compromise but it doesn't matter because the 64 community is 90% online sociopath nerds who somehow still suck at the game despite playing it for like 4 years straight

keep getting ***** by a "defensive" falcon when all your yoshi does is camp and parry and does bootleg combos and people suck ur dik.

as for the 1% that are actually cool, you guys ****. Love you guys !!!! :)

Haha s2j is too funny. Thinks hes some kind of bad *** on here. I've never seen you in real life but I've definitely seen tigerbombz call you a fat asian nerd on here so I'll believe him. Which makes you a hyprocrite. Get over yourself.

And your "defensive" falcon "*****" me 3-2 like 2 years ago. Your fox never has and never will beat me.
