I just wanted to make this thread for people to discuss this amazing game. I hate how unpopular it is, but its soooo goooood.

Anyone who has played this game you can post your favourite parts of the game :)

I'd get this/godhand if I had a ps2.

What weird is that if I opted for a ps2 instead of a gamecube I probably would have never posted this message.

The game is one of the best i ever played. Everything about it is simply amazing. The wii version actually feels more natural than the ps2 one. My favorite part of the game is...dunno, probably the fight against Ninetails.
Ah, this game gets even more points for me because its the first to contain butt cleavage. Ehehehe.

Isn't there cut content on the Wii? That's what I heard.
there is no cut content, it is exactly the same game, except with better graphics, better gameplay(bar the glaives, which are harder to use) and a slightly different loading screen. But apart from that, they're the same. it's MUCH better on the Wii from what I've heard though. go buy it NOW! (or request it for Xmas)

Sunken Ship is a definite highlight of the game for me, it was soo epic. not to mention I played Sunken ship at 3am alone at home. :p

EDIT: Okamiden is out in 2011 and it featurs Amaterasu's daughter-cub, Chibiterasu as the main character. I wish I had a DS so I could play it :(

Well there actually is cut content on the Wii version. It doesn't have the ending credits because they contained CLOVER's logo. That's the only thing that is missing from the game, but trust me, it is >1000 times better than the ps2 version.
Except Amaterasu, what's you guys's favorite character?
Mine is Sakuya, i already explained why.

Okami was a pretty awesome game. My favourite parts were the Susano (who's my favourite character in the game) parts, and the Ninetales fight probably. My only problem with this game is that...I had to
fight Orochi 3 times.
Otherwise, it's probably one of my favourite PS2 games.

Can't wait for Okamiden to come out.

My favourite character in the game is without a doubt Issun! That guy was waay too epic.
I found that the game was a lot more plot-heavy than I expected and much longer than I expected as well... When I did the first Orochi fight I was like, "lol, this game is so short", and then I realized I was only 20% into the game and I was like WHOA lol.
Also, HOW F*CKING AWESOME IS THE SOUNDTRACK!! So tasty... :)

Whilst Okamiden doesn't really look like a worthy sequal, Okami was absolutely sublime. Superb storytelling equipped with that beautiful art style, soundtrack etc etc make this one of the best games I've played.

Favourite character aside from Amaterasu is probably... Orochi. Whilst he isn't actually a playable character, he has a really deep backstory to him, and his actual design really interests me.

The Wii version doesn't have "better" graphics. It just looks different because it lacks the rice paper filter (you can actually see what the PS2 version looks like during the cutscenes after you revitalize one of the big trees and life returns to the area).
Except Amaterasu, what's you guys's favorite character?
I don't really see Okami as a plot or character driven game. I didn't really care much for any of the characters. Well there is the cowardly samurai guy who everyone seems to think is a great hero. I always liked that character archetype :bee: (like Captain Qwark and Mr. Satan/Hercule).

Worst thing about the Wii version is that the Nunchuck dodge mechanic didn't work AT ALL :( (though thankfully you could get through the game without really using it).

I got it for the Wii some time ago and played it for 3 days straight (I didn't shower).
It has been the only game in history that I have done a run of that has kept my attention (I couldn't finish Super Mario Brothers)
It's prolly one of the best one player games I have ever played.... Just thought you guys should know.

ahh yes the nunchuck dodge... I think it was called godly step or something like that at the dojo. I didnt even bother buying that bcos I can just shield and/or jump if I wanna avoid an attack.
the day before I moved to university I stayed up for nearly 5 hours atraight, playing this game until I finally finished it at 6am, before going to pack my **** and then getting my train. but it was so worth it.
I didnt think of Waka as a big hero at the end, but he's definitely not a bad guy or a coward, lol.

Waka is the french-ish flute playing dude right? It's so long ago since I played it, so I don't really remember the names :bee:
No, I'm talking about the village "hero," Susano (I found out his name thanks to the power of the Internet). Everyone thinks he's a warrior, but he's really just a drunken coward (although in reality he's probably not as much a coward as an average dude who wouldn't put up a fight against and 8 headed dragon or anything of the sort).

Oh lol Susano'o, he's alright, I just hated all the parts where I help him do something and then he goes "yeah I'm so awesome" lol.
he's pretty brave I would say, attempting to fight for Kushi anytime... not bad. he was a complete douche at the beginning though.

Needs to be revived. I know I'm not the only one playing Okamiden out there. x.x Lol.

I just made a new siggy, made it all from scratch (except for the logo) and it makes me happy :3

So, how far is everyone in Okamiden, or if you didn't get it, why? I'll have to admit, it's slow/bleh in the beginning, but after a while it gets better and better. And there's even (yes, really!) backstory that actually makes a lot of sense in Okami. I'm at the part where
I just cleared Ryoshima Ruins and I warped back to Thundercloud (my favorite area) to nab some treasures I missed)
. It's getting good now and I can't wait to keep going in the game ^^ Even though my DS got taken away, but oh well... I'll get it back one day and continue Okamiden. :)

I see. :D The story hasn't gotten really good yet, but once you get to a certain area that starts with a T (Super awesome bg music, you'll know it when you get there) everything starts getting interesting.

Well, technically it gets interesting before that, though- just make sure you read all 4-5 broken computer screens once you get to that part. :o

If you need any help on puzzles, just ask me. :) Some of them are challenging if you don't know what to do next, I had to Google more than one. It helps to read the signboards but a lot of times they don't help much, too.

Huh...I'm curious about Okamiden, but I'm not sure if I should get it yet; I haven't beaten Okami for the Wii yet. The game is pretty cool and very fun, but Idk if I found it as super-amazing.

Reminded me of Zelda a bit but that's not really why I found it less appealing (only brought up Zelda...Idk, just because it reminded me of it lol). I mean, it's great for sure, but I got kinda tired out partway through the first section of the game.

Part of it had to do with the Wii controls. Idk, the Wii version's motion-sensor controls kinda bother me. For the most part, it works, but then there are other times when it feels a little unresponsive; for example, when you have to watch Mr. Orange dance and bring the tree back to life, I found that part REALLY frustrating, since you had to make a PERFECT circle for it to work and you only had like 0.2 of a second to input it. :( I seriously had to put the game down and watch T.V. otherwise I might've thrown the Wii Remote at my T.V (and I don't even get that mad in general).

Aside from my personal issues with it, I enjoyed the game. lol I'll probably give it another go, when I get more free-time.

Edit: What was the PS2 version of the game's control scheme like? I've been curious.

Yeah, the Wii controls get frustrating at times, but they're manageable I guess. :p I had trouble on that one too, but thankfully that's one of the rare times the Wii controls mess up in something plot related. After that, you probably won't have much more trouble with them for anything in the storyline. You will have trouble dodging, however- as when you dodge, you probably won't go in the direction you wanted to. XD But thankfully jumping and shielding take complete care of that.

I never had the PS2 version, but I heard the controls were perfect as well as there being a rice paper filter on the graphics that made them look gorgeous. There's still scenes on the Wii with the rice paper filter, look closely at the graphics whenever you revive another Sapling and the cutscene runs. That's what the PS2 version looked like the whole time. :D

As for details on the control scheme, I don't know them for the PS2- I'm sure someone here does, though. :o

My friend was telling me that this was an awesome zelda-esque game so I decided to check it out.

I learned that this was made by Capcom (One of my favorite gaming companies, along with konomi, and Nintendo.) so know I have high hopes for this game once I can get my hands on it.

Just curious though, how good is it exactly? Personally from what I have heard it sounds good, but I am worried with my high expectations based on what everyone has told me I might wind up disappointed.

Also how do the controls play (I am getting it for the wii)?

In front of the screen, If ya know what I mean.
I played it and I gotta say that this is one of the beastliest games I've ever played, EVER!! The only complaint I have is with the camera lock when battling enemies, it never orientates itself an that's kinda the point, right? Other than that it's a beautiful game and would recommend it to most people. I personally think that the reason it didn't receive much love is for the fact that Okami came out three weeks before wii nd PS3 and everybody was hyped up for it. Okami is the ultimate hipster game lol!

It is most certainly an awesome game, it wasn't really made by Capcom but made by their former branch, Clover Studio (it got disbanded only because Okami didn't sell), and it is absolutely epic.

One reason it's very good to us is because it features a culture with which we're not familiar, and it could be why it didn't sell well in Japan (A lot of times, game covers sell the game :/) but it still has a unique storyline with tons of references of Japanese legends and it's lovable and heartfelt at the same time. Issun's character, the soundtrack, and the aesthetics are 3 main things that make the game, other than the storyline. I don't think you'll end up disappointed at all. It's an action adventure genre with characters you can connect with, reasons to play the game more than once, and deep stories you likely won't forget.

Wii controls play relatively well, it's the only reason it wasn't a perfect game as the Konohana tree minigame is hard as well as your dodges (Fleetfoot ability if I recall specifically) just not dodging in the right direction. I've found you can sort of dodge normally if you turn it to the side you want instead of moving it, and forward if you make a motion with a cat's paw, then backward if you move it forward normally. It's awkward and I don't use them, but yeah. XD

I can't wait to get Okami for the Wii. I've played a bit of Okami for PS2, and loved the art style. I heard the controls are a lot easier for the Wii, more fluid and natural. Okamiden just looks ADORABLE. Can't wait to get it too :awesome:

Personally I would rather just use a game pad, but the wii controls for me anyway are alright.

@S.Dragon Thanks, sorry for not responding sooner I wanted to get farther into the game before resoponding.

I can't wait to get Okami for the Wii. I've played a bit of Okami for PS2, and loved the art style. I heard the controls are a lot easier for the Wii, more fluid and natural. Okamiden just looks ADORABLE. Can't wait to get it too :awesome:
LOOOOOOL @ Wii controls

Ok, maybe that's too mean, but the Wii controls are a lot harder when it comes to Fleetfoot and the Konohana tree minigame at the start of the game. You end up almost never using Fleetfoot (and forgetting you have it in bad situations XD) but it's true that that doesn't take much out of the game. The rest of the Wii controls are great- almost as if the game was made for the Wii. So natural besides those two things. :)

And yes, definitely get Okamiden when you finish Okami. :D

@S.Dragon Thanks, sorry for not responding sooner I wanted to get farther into the game before resoponding.
It's ok, don't worry about it. It's understandable. :p Things take time.

I beat Orochi! only 18 hours of game play well that was short.

*Plays some more*

Uh huh, so know there is a mysterious figure that is still carring out Orochi's curse? Insteresting, I hope this new villian does not die as easily. (I love Orochi's design but they should of made him harder IMO.)

LOL When you beat Orochi, that's only like the first 20% of the game. ;P

Yeah. I can't give away any spoilers but the game gets much harder, you'll see. XP Though, to people who play smash / pro gamers, the whole thing will still be relatively easy as long as you're smart. Stock up on more health/ink restoring things as you go and you'll be invincible, trust me.

I hope it does get harder, but if it is true as long as you stock up on items (which is what I have been doing, a habit that I got into while playing the Zelda games.) that you are effectively unstoppable then maybe I should not be carrying around 10 different healing items, 4 infinity inks, and 2 exorcism slips (I have been using them so I have less then normal, but they are SO SATISFYING *BOOM!*)

I have bumped into the first field enemy to give me trouble that red crane. The only one that I have troubles with, I know to use the wind to force an opening, but there has to be something I am missing. This is the only field enemy annoying me, everyone else I really do not worry about, but this one ..... ehhh

Also I LOVE this games atmosphere, they did a good job on it.

Yeah, it definitely gets harder. :p And yeah, as you go you won't need the healing items that are like "restores 3 solar energy units" because you'll need a lot more, so just sell them and keep the larger ones. As for exorcism slips, lawl, buy as many as you want, just sell all of your Treasures except for one of each one and you'll have enough money for everything.

As for the red crane, they can be annoying, you just have to use the wind a lot. Another tip that I bet you didn't know about is that you can temporarily confuse an enemy by blotting them with ink- to do this, just draw a tiny zag on them in no real shape. I haven't played Okami in a bit but I think you can put dots on them too as long as you don't have weapons that enable Ink Bullet. They're really useful on red imps too when they shield.

And yessssssssss, the game's atmosphere is probably the most beautiful I've ever played in. ^^

...I was going to post a lot earlier to say how beautiful the Water Dragon was, but I continued playing instead of going online to post. Just wow, holy cow a lot just happen story wise with in just one day of game play.

Anyway defeated Nine Tails, the bosses are steady getting harder, which I like
though painting while I was painting is ****ing cheating
but I did not die to him, I used all of my item though so that is a good thing. Is nine tails the half-way point mark of the game?

Also the story is starting to get amazing not only is there a lot of detail with each "chapter" so to speak, but it draws you in to a degree which I do not see that often. Only Zelda, Onimushia, Metroid and Metal Gear Solid games come to mind when talking about the atmosphere of this game by comparing it to others. Thank you for recommending this game.

Also I heard there is a sequel, how good is it compared to the original and is it worth getting?

Yeah when I beat Orochi I was like "well that was kind of long for a modern game :)"

but then the game just continued and continued and continued and...
Amazing.

I know, right? It never ceases to amaze me every single time I play it again. XD I even got the Official Complete Works book. :p

In other news, omg wtf yes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIt3OYwueVk

Basically this is a Chinese group imitating the Okami style in their own game, but I have no idea if this is just an artistic feat and no real game will come from this, or if they'll actually make this game in Okami style with a different legend and different characters. Either way, I have been pleased. <3
