Official Washington Melee thread

There is usually a melee/brawl tourney once a month, except for tourney play months-which are every 4-5 I think.
There should be a tourney in july. they are usually the second saturday of the month, basically two weeks in if the month starts close to a sat.

The Dan 1 and Dan 2 ran the money situation illegally. I'm pretty sure every other tournament ran at colleges are like that as well.

It doesnt matter. You have never been to a college so you wouldnt know. Apply, get accepted, and then tell ppl how colleges work from the inside.
you are also wrong. an admin willing to look the other way is completely different then saying **** it we are going to do it anyway. If they got busted in the middle the tourney is canceled and money would be confiscated along with fees. not to mention if they were to be caught, they could get expelled, uw is very strict and a smash tournament is not worth any of their futures.
Im not beefn or anything, its just kinda annoying that you are the dude that always wants ppl to do **** that benefits you, with the exception of volunteering to steal me chili, you never take any of the risks. Stop suggesting they do **** that could get them in serious trouble just so we can have a smash tournament.

Are you ****ing ********? The fact that I haven't been to college (which I have) has no bearing on my information being accurate. The college Dan/Teddy go to doesn't allow money to be exchanged at tournament, yet they ran regional tournaments there because they aren't gay. The solution to this is to prepay or do it under the table. Stop being a little ****in ***** every time I suggest something because you guys dont like me. Its really ****ing annoying. I'd take the risk if it were my college cuz I don't have a ****ing ******.

FYI, I dont hate you. I really really dont. I dont think "uw" hates you either.
Its annoying for you to press something like this on them, or fault them for not doing it. Regardless of how it can be done, its still against the rules, and unless they are willing to break them becasue they want to, not because you want to, its not gonna happen. And as their friend you shouldnt ask them to.
I could go about giving you a whole page of reasons why its against the rules, but youll probably just trigger your defense mechanism by saying something racist, making a joke, combining the two, or trying to berate me with offensive language and comments, yet failing to look at the issue with an open mind because the end result isnt what you want.
Just know that we thought about doing **** under the table or pre paying etc, temp location and then moving etc over a year ago.
You have no business saying "uw" doesnt host tourney because they are "gay." UW made it pretty clear to us that they are not fond of that particular behavior among students and its out of the question for breakfast items.
They arent dumb, they are aware of some of those options, obviously they chose to pass, idk maybe they will say **** it and just do it, but it will be because they want to and are willing to take the risk and accept the consequences if they are caught, not because you want them to.
Im sure they would love to have tourneys at their skool, its good for them, you, me, otto, WA smash, smash community in general.

i havent played melee in two months
i couldnt give a **** less if there werent melee tournaments. i prefer brawl anyway.
im definitely not going to argue with you about this since youre not one of the ones trying to host something and since you're terrible at arguing.
its not BREAKING the rules, its a loophole. if you dont do monetary transactions on site it doesnt matter. at least from what i understand.
also before you say "if you dont care why are you posting"
obviously because i care about the scene and want ours to become fun which cant happen with erratic 10 person tournaments
also gameclucks melee league pays out to 4th,so you all should try to make GCs since you can win money

Obviously a tournament would benefit everyone. Obviously UW would like to host a tournament. Obviously, you are the only one complaining about it, and *****ing at them for not having done so. Obviously they are trying to work it out but just havent been successful yet.
Ur a ****ing ******. You didnt have an arguement anyways. Like I said, they are trying to get it to work, you general demeanor pisses ppl off.
It came up that we could host free melee tournaments and could get a small amount of funding for a prize. Pretty much pays out to 1 maybe 2 and it would be a gift card or something. UW basically decided they probably didnt want to do that because they would have to deal with 50 non smashers and it would be too small of a room with not nearly enough setups.
Funny thing is, the consensus was also, Shane wouldnt like that, no joke, this came up while planning MAD and we got canceled.

Im only saying that they want to host tourneys, but they dont want to have to do it where they could get into trouble at all. And if they are goiing to run them, they wanna do it right so they arent just homo fests.
Im not blaming you for stuff that obviously you didnt do, I was only saying sometimes you make ppl feel obligated to do things they dont want to, and when then dont necessarily want to do something-sometimes you rag on em about it hardcore. You just have to understand that sometimes ppl make decisions based on things that are irrrational or not concrete, such as feelings and emotions, pride, or integrity.
I just dont think they want to do anything "wrong" in order to host the melee tournaments. Seems like whatever they are doing they just wanna be completely honest about it.
Its really their choice to make, I think toph would do it lol, but he is leaving.

Quick notes:
- Kline's right, I'd do it (host tourneys), but I'm leaving.
- I agree with Shane that doing it under the table is a decent enough approach, but Shane you can't just be like "let's build our scene" and then also "I'm a jerk to everyone." I mean this isn't THAT big a deal. I know I've been guilty of this in the past but there's a difference between arguing and just hurling insults.
- Kline's not even saying he wouldn't do it (host tourneys at UW campus) but he's saying that it's logical/understandable that we (UW students) wouldn't do it (host tourneys at UW campus). He's just being open-minded.
- You can get better in friendlies, you just have to stop being lazy.

Kline, I think you should go back to school or get a job before you talk about moving anywhere. Your priorities are all out of whack, real talk.
Otto, you should travel more and play on more of a national level. But I think you're already planning to do that, right? :D
Melee players are spoiled in that Melee is the only game as old as it is that gets 200/300+ person national tourneys. The only other fighter with tourneys in America as big as Smash is Street Fighter 4, and that's only because SF4 is really new. Relative to a lot of fighting game communities, Washington Melee is still pretty big. Or at least "big enough." I think people just need more cars/ways to get around so more people can smash with more people. And we need more people to go up to BC. If we "merged" Washington and BC Melee like how Socal and Norcal are "merged" we'd have 50+ person LOCAL tournaments every month.
AKA, people need passports.
Regardless, when I get back in 2011 I'm still going to host biweeklies/smashfests so everyone can meet and play. I hope you guys continue to keep the scene healthy while I'm gone.
Edit: Also, Phong, Eggz isn't quitting melee. He's just an attention *****, lol.
