Now that lucas has been included, Ness's chances to be in are very low, but what does this mean for jigglypuff? Since ness was in smash from 64, this may mean that all the original characters might not be returning. And jigg's popularity has been dwindling recently, overshadowed by pokemon like lucario and meowth. What do you guys think??

I'd say you'll probably be flamed for drawing such connections. But by god, I would not be opposed to replacing Jiggs with something more interesting. Like... you know.

Oh please this is just dumb, today's update wasn't even related to Pokemon. Now people are going overboard.

No one is "over-shadowing" the puff. Just cause a hand full of smash nerds hype up Lucario doesn't mean the thing is more popular than Jpuff.

Read. . .

"In 2006, Viz released a series of ten DVDs based around individual Pokémon in celebration of Pokémon's 10th anniversary in the United States. Jigglypuff was released as volume 2, with Pikachu being the first volume. The Pokémon featured were determined by an online poll; after Pikachu, Jigglypuff was the most popular and was therefore released second."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jigglypuff

And if Ness is gone than thats because he wouldn't have been in melee had Mother3 came out than. Sakurai said that him self.

Don't say that. Jiggs won't ever go. I need her to murder people online with the Wall of pain and rest combos.. If I can't do that then Smash will never be the same.

I do hope that if Sakurai decides to take some characters out of the initial game, there would be a upgrade you could buy with Wii Points that would give you the old characters with New Designs/ movesets. That would be cool.

I think Ness and Jiggs stand the same chance as Marth., since Ike is a more interesting Fire Emblem character. All in all with the exception of Pichu and Dr. Mario I think everyone is coming back.

No, Ness and Marth's changes are far more cricital. Roy and Dr.Mario are pretty much already gone after Sakurai showed us Ike and Mario's Special Moves, and Pichu will without doubt be axed aswell.

Jigglypuff still appears in today's Pokémon games. So there's few reasons to cut her, unlike Ness and Marth. Jigglypuff is a Smash classic, it wouldn't be quite the same if Jiggly isn't the first character you have to unlock.

But that's not saying anything frankly.

Lucas will probably have Ness' moveset, and unless someone in the Pokemon series has a similar moveset to Jigglypuff and deserves the spot, I don't want her to go.

Looks more like Ness's Down B PSI Magnet to me, except he's not surounding himself with the move but uses it infront of himself.

Ok, to be honest I was largely convinced that if Lucas got in it meant Ness was toast. But now the update is here, and I'm not so sure. This particular bit of text particularly caught my eye:

"While he is timid in nature, he fights splendidly. Is it possible he can surpass even Ness?!"

Now, if you were Sakurai and you were cutting a character from the original Smash, a character with a loyal albeit small following, think really hard- Would you even MENTION Ness? No, I don't think so- you wouldn't want to bring him to the public's attention more than necessary. And if Ness is sticking around I dare say we may not lose anyone at all, save maybe Dr. M or Pichu, anyone without a viable independent move set.

But hey, it's just a thought ^_^

Sakurai openly said that he wanted to axe Ness for Lucas back in melee times. By that logic he wouldn't have even said a word about Lucas in Ness's melee thing.

If you were Sakurai and you were cutting a character from the orginal Smash, a character that is exactly the same as the newcomer you introduced.....

Really I look at it like Link's TP update.

I take that comment Sakurai made about "surpassing" Ness; that Lucas is basicly Ness 2.0

Well, yeah, pretty much, Lucas was going to be the Mother rep in both games. But it's because his game was being made for the N64, and it kept on getting delayed and canceled eventually. But now that Mother 3 is released on the GBA, Lucas can finally be in Smash to take his place as the main Mother rep.

Do you think the inclusion of Solid Snake cuts down the chances for Captain Falcon?

That is basically the kind of connection you just brought up.

I've heard that Lucas was supposed to be in SSB, but his game got canceled so they added Ness.

Nice try, but they don't even relate to each other in any way. Ness and Lucas are exactly the same, even as different characters, much like OoT Link and ALttP Link.

Ah, yeah, I forgot that Captain Falcon is a Metal Gear Solid character.
It's been revealed just last week that he's actually Snake's father's former roommate's long lost cousin. Hoo boy. What a revelation.

I need to see more pics to conclude if Lucas is taking Ness's move set. BTW i hope Ness is an alternate costume (not a separte character). If not then just leave Ness out altogeter.

People, Ness and Lucas can have COMPLETELY different moves.

And "They're the same" is totally wrong. Mario and Luigi anyone?
Anyone CAN have different movesets, the question is whether it's worth the trouble.

It's likely for Ness not to return, is all. If I was Sakurai, I would leave it at Lucas and perhaps add another M3 character.

But let's not turn this into just another discussion of this topic, shall we? That's what the Lucas and/or Ness threads are for.

Actually, it isn't. Yes, they're literally about the same as OoT Link and ALttP Link. Should both of them be in the game?

However, in the case with Mario and Luigi, they're two separate character concepts and are literally both stars in many Mario games, even both having two separate ways of movements and two separate personalities. This isn't the case with Ness and Lucas, or any Mother main character, ever.

We basically need more pics... That picture of Lucas with the ball of energy in front of him could be A. an entirely new move or B. a new version of any one of Ness' B moves. Plus the "Is it possible he can surpass even Ness?!" quote either means "Is it possible Lucas can defeat Ness?" or "Is it possible this new smasher is more powerful than the one he replaced?" Sakurai has a way with words that would make Beck angry...

Now that Lucas has been confirmed, is there any hope for Peach? I know that Peach has already been confirmed, but I'm an idiot.

I'll assume you're making fun of me for... some reason. But you did point out another instance when Sakurai says things that make no sense... I don't think it's the translation, I think he's just odd.

I don't see how Ness not being confirmed yet lowers anyone elses chances. How the hell does this lower's Ness' chances? If he was most to be in then he is, if not he won't. If you ask me I hope he and Jigglypuff return.

But how is that going to happen when Sakurai said this:

Don’t fire! Do NOT fire that laser!
Why? ...Well, because it really hurts!
So you shouldn't Fire Samus's Final Smash, thus she doesn't evolve into Zamus (Which by the way is a weaker version of Samus in the Metriod games, because she doesn't have her Chozo suit or w/e it's called ).

I think you totally missed out on the point...

The original poster is making a connection with Lucas and Jigglypuff.
This has nothing to do with Ness.
That is why I made such a ridiculous connection between Solid Snake and Captain Falcon... you didn't catch on.

Fawriel understood what I meant though ;)

Jiggs' chances are slimmed by Lucas' update. Some people operated under the theory that SSB character = always a smash character. With Lucas being a probable replacement for Ness, Jiggs' chances lessen. But hardly because there are too many maybes... way too many.

I use Jigglypuff and if there was someone/thing that could replace her with the same moveset then id be ok with it.

However there isnt any that (i can think of atleast) could replace her.

I couldnt care less for the character just the moves.

I'm still trying to find out how this reduces Ness's chances in... I mean, Sakurai kindly makes a reference to Ness in his description. That's like saying he makes a comment: "Oh yeah, Ike and Marth used to eat pancakes all the time..." and Marth isn't in the game.

Excuse the bad example.
