I'd pick Commando only if I have the combat and pun skills of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie Commando, and I can single-handedly defeat an entire island.

What would you consider Solid Snake? He's like some hybrid of commando/spy. I'd pick that given the option.

I'd consider him a commando

when I said spy I meant more in the James Bond/Alias mold, where you might have some combat skills and whatnot but you generally rely on your guile and cunning to manipulate the situation

i.e. I'd consider infiltrating a base with nobody noticing you there at all (and the people who do are silenced!) commando-work, whereas infiltrating a base with people noticing you but not finding you out-of-place or being suspicious of you spy-work

i'd use rambo [past first blood] or one of many arnold schwarzenegger characters

either way, spies are more badass

i dont think you can reject one of the "classic" views of a commando [I'd claim it's THE image of a commando] just because you get uncomfortable at the thought of a shirtless buff guy.

to me, stealth is first and foremost a spy characteristic. a commando will obviously need to use it, but their goal is to get the jump so they can take out a larger group. a spy prefers to take out only the necessary targets.

are you just arguing for fun or what? I'm not rejecting that that kind of commando exists; i'm saying that if i were to choose to be a commando, it would be on the merit of secret/surgical-strike type missions, not survive in the jungle and hunt aliens type missions

stealth is easily a characteristic of both - it is just accomplished via different mediums

i posed the question, so the spy or command can be any kind of spy or commando that I want, and I want to extend that freedom to anybody answering the question; nobody's choice needs to fit into YOUR definition ("THE image") of either profession

if you want to be a sweaty jungle commando, more power to you

Captain Commando has awesome stunner shades, a baby piloting a robosuit/stealthy ninja assassin/helicopter mummy are at his disposal with a mere snap of his fingers, he can shoot fire from his wrists, he can summon a pillar of energy just by punching the ground, he can KICK FIRE, and he's white.
