I didn't really mean from an objective perspective that everything could be bad in a certain medium. If that's what you were saying was impossible, then I probably agree with you. But I don't think people calling anime trash are arguing that it's literally 100% trash, more that the negatives are significant enough that they outweigh the positives to the degree that it's not worth consuming in its current form, and it is entirely possible that an entire medium could fit into that category in my opinion, though I don't know that I could name anything that does.

But then, the whole thing is honestly subjective because...everybody has different tastes, likes/dislikes, views of what's good/bad. I mean, you said that news is one kind of media that is close to being entirely trash, but there are people who will consume news forever and think that news is good (at least, their personal brand of news, whichever they think is the least biased or what have you). Then there are people who don't care for anime at all, whereas clearly a lot of people here and in other places disagree.

Its Japanese short word for "アニメーション = animation."
Americans took the word and made it a genre/medium/term because americans are to lazy to call it japanese animation

Japanese animation is no different from western cartoons. It's all just animation.
People who trash it are generally ignorant. They usually use that generic "anime" art style as an argument since they aren't as educated on it. Of course they bring up Studio Ghilbi/ or Miyazaki up as a saving figure lol.

They all have same flat stiff art style with no expressions, limited backgrounds and animation, no expressive freedom, done in flash,they all have bathroom humor, and they all look like this:

...What prompted this? I already said I wasn't trashing anime and I'm well aware of what anime is, I had my middle school anime obsession phase. Whether or not it's "technically" a medium is...irrelevant? That wasn't the purpose of my response to J.B. at all. I was just using the same terminology that J.B. used so I'm...confused as to why this is getting aimed at me.

I understand you were involved in an explicit conversation about whether or not it was serious, but I don't think it was intended to be aimed only at you, since a bunch of people took up discussion of the issue. Anime is just animation in Japan.

Therefore, the animation is the medium, while comedy, horror, romance, action, etc are the genres.

Anime may be a catchphrase to easily distinguish animation from a certain section of the world (in this case, japan), but it is certainly a medium in the same vein that american cartoons/animation is a medium. What else can it be?
