Anime is still good while pretty much all 'normal' cartoons have turned just aweful. I can't watch Disney Channel or Cartoon Network with the 'shows' they have on nowdays. :/

@ Swamp Sensei Swamp Sensei
Sorry.

You made my babies sad. You monster.

Seriously though, western animation, especially those targeted towards children, are on the rise once more. Shows like Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and Over the Garden Wall are humorous like the shows we grew up with, but also have intriguing stories that entertain children and adults alike.
I used to complain and creators nowadays don't care and just make an easy buck by feeding mindless BS to small children, and how the cartoons from the 90s and early 2000s are a billion times better than what we have now, but then I took off my nostalgia goggles and have these shows a shot, and I saw that they are just as good, if not better than the shows I grew up with. While Seasons 1-3 of SpongeBob will also hold a big place in my heart, and I can always go back and have a good laugh at Pizza Delivery or Band Geeks, I can't deny that these shows are truly amazing.

TL,DR: We're entering a new Rennaissance in Children's Animation, with shows that can appeal to viewers of all ages.

Then there's Rick and Morty. While it's definitely not a kid's show, it's...something else.

WARNING: Mild language in his video (they say "sons of *****es")

I say "anime belongs in the trash".

People proceed to quote my post and give a serious rebuttal.
Well it was a pretty easily provocative way of putting it.

Eh, I don't really mind either way. Got a nice discussion going.
Because you know.
This is a social thread.
Meaning people socialize about different things.
And those things may sometimes include anime.
Just sayin'.

See, if I'd make an anime, it'd be the something outside of the typical tropes people relate to it. Preferably something more silent and out there.

No, you're in a discussion thread. People talk about things. Isn't rocket science.
Besides, pretty sure Tumblr is still better off than we lot are.

I know I rant about tumblr a lot, but there really wasn't anything wrong with that.

What's gotten in to you today? First anime... :troll:

We are all trash, which means anime belongs in us :^)

Alternatively

What she says:
"Anime belongs in the trash"
What she means:
Anime (Japanese: アニメ?, [anʲime]), also informally romanized as animé, is a term used to refer to Japaneseanimated productions featuring hand-drawn or computer animation. In Japan the word refers to all animation, being a shortened form of the rōmaji animēshon("animation").[1] Outside Japan, the meaning of the word anime can vary slightly; definitions include animation from Japan or, alternatively, a Japanese-disseminated animation styleoften characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes.[2][3] Arguably, the stylization approach to the meaning may open up the possibility of anime produced in countries other than Japan.[4][5][6] For simplicity, many Westerners strictly view anime as an animation product from Japan.[3] Some scholars suggest defining anime as specifically or quintessentially Japanese may be related to a new form of orientalism.[7]

The earliest commercial Japanese animation dates to 1917, and production of anime works in Japan has since continued to increase steadily. The characteristic anime art style emerged in the 1960s with the works ofOsamu Tezuka and spread internationally in the late twentieth century, developing a large domestic and international audience. Anime is distributed theatrically, by television broadcasts, directly to home media, and over the internet. It is classified into numerous genres targeting diverse broad and niche audiences.

Anime is a diverse art form with distinctive production methods and techniques that have been adapted over time in response to emergent technologies. The production of anime focuses less on the animation of movement and more on the realism of settings as well as the use of camera effects, including panning, zooming, and angle shots. Diverse art styles are used and character proportions and features can be quite varied, including characteristically large emotive or realistically sized eyes.

The anime industry consists of over 430 production studios including major names like Studio Ghibli, Gainax, andToei Animation. Despite comprising only a fraction of Japan's domestic film market, anime makes up a majority of Japanese DVD sales. It has also seen international success after the rise of English-dubbed programming. This rise in international popularly has resulted in non-Japanese productions using the anime art style, but these works are usually described as anime-influenced animation rather than anime proper.

I don't see what's so "tumblr" about his post
It would be "tumblr" if he used stuff such as "diversity" "no hetero stuff" "strong women"
He was just commenting on modern cartoons, what's so bad about it?

Anime and Japanese Culture as a whole just confuses the hell out of me.

I never understood how so many kids get into an edgey phase in middle school and suddenly wish they were Japanese.

Not gonna judge though. Everyone has their thing.

Closest I ever got was Pokemon. I loved the **** out of Pokemon.

I still love the **** out of Pokemon.

So on the topic of anime, how we you guys feel if the Pokemon anime let Ash win a Pokemon league for once, so he could retire and then we could put someone else in the main character role e.g. like Serena, and then she'd get joined by the new Pokemon game protagonist, and then they'd become the main character?

13 year old me and my friends were like this
I don't know what happened but I guess it's a natural (d)evolution process for kids who grew with "those cool cartoons with fight scenes"

What could get me into Anime was if they made a more mature Pokemon series without Ash.

Actual dangerous villains, brutal battles, and cool looking action. From what I've seen from anime, the animation is top notch, I'd love to see the same quality from Attack on Titan for example in a mature Pokemon Anime.

I think it's because those people see a different culture than theirs with their own take on mediums like comics and animation, and they think it's cooler. Or possibly that anime > western everything or something like that.

They almost did that with Pokemon Origins. But to be honest you're better off looking for other anime with that case.

Silly Ash, all you have to do is bring in a metric ton of Hyper Potions and Revives, and then you're guarentee to be the League Champion by no other factors other than pure skill. :troll:

I don't give a flying **** about the Pokemon anime as long as they make a full Johto Origins spin off
**** it, I would take it even if it was compressed into 4 episodes just for the GoldXRed otp fight

..........What do opinions have to do with this?

I never said you're wrong to like those shows or to be open about that. All I said is that your post read like the billion posts I see on Tumblr daily gushing about how great and progressive those particular cartoons are.

And I was also joking.

Uhhhh, I don't see how I sound any more upset than you or all the other people who took "Anime belongs in the trash" as a serious, insulting post.

I'm not mad. I just wanted to hear a justification as to how Tumblrettes are better off than the rest of us.

Excuse us for not being able to detect sarcasm or humor through text alone, we'll try our best to personify and express each sentence exactly how it was intended in your head.

And I literally meant nothing by it, just taking a jab at how silly things get around here... like right now.

Pokemon and Sonic X are/were both horrible shows.

I get your point, but saying they're ALL good is totally wrong. There's some stinkers in there.

It wasn't sarcasm, either.

Just google the exact phrase I said. Look up "Anime was a mistake", too, while you're at it.

Oh trust me, anime sucks at game adaptations just as much as we do. Though the fighting game adaptations tend to be just as cheesy, which is good for me.

Yeah, and promptly get the show cancelled. You seem to have forgotten that Pokemon battles in the canon of the games are simply sports, so no brutal battles are something that shouldn't really exist in Pokemon. Also if you mean by more dangerous villains, you mean that Jessie, James and Meowth should be dangerous, you kind of missed the point of them, since their supposed to be the comic relief villains, and there are more threatening villains in the show then them.
