And last The Chorus Kids can burn and rot in Nintendo Hell along with the CD-I games and the Mario Porno. Sorry to those supporters but my bias against it relies solely on their awful design.
What a terrible reason to put them in the same category as the CD-I games and the Super Hornio Bros. films.

Seriously, if you're going to be venomously hateful towards something, at least have a good reason for it other than "I just don't like the design".

Yeah. Besides...

There's not enough design to hate anyway.

Actually, it's more that people suddenly started to think Chorus Kids were the character they never knew they wanted and they started supporting them in droves.
I don't get it. Why not the Wrestler & Reporter, or Karate Joe.
Yeah, I kind of prefer Karate Joe myself. Although I guess Chorus Kids kinda makes sense in a way? Judging by the DS boxart, they are the mascot of the DS game (which is the most popular game in the series). Their incarnation (Marshall) also happen to reappear in the Wii game, acting a bit like a mascot. He was the opening & tutorial character and also the ending & credits sequence character.

But I really prefer Karate Joe. He's still the only character I've voted for in the Ballot to this day. He's been in every Rhythm Heaven game and he has more presense in the marketing promotion of the 3DS game. As far as I'm concerned, he's the series' mascot to me.

Wrestler & Reporter is kind of more meme status IMO. I like them a lot, but I don't know if they really work as RH's main rep.

Can I just say I don't care what they'd pick for a RH rep? Like, anything would be cool to me.

I've never played Rhythm Heaven, but I've been meaning to look into it. And even I know Rhythm Heaven deserves some character/franchise love. I find it startling that, while the character of the Chorus Kids might have been cut, we got no stage, no assist trophies, and only music from the DLC. The only thing we did get was the Sneaky Spirits and a few trophies, which is extremely surprising. For a series about music that's pretty big over in Japan, you'd think we'd have gotten music in the base game or a stage or something...I'd love to see Sakurai take another shot at a Rhythm Heaven rep that he could get working, as i think he couldn't get the Kids working on the 3DS, same as Ice Climbers. The only popular characters requested are always Karate Joe, Wrestler, and Marshall, all of who i know because they have trophies.

Remember I linked the RH concert video in this thread. That franchise had two of them total, a couple soundtrack CDs, and 4 successful games in Japan. I certainly think it's a bit like FE in a sense (highly popular in Japan).

I really like Karate Joe's mini games myself (moreso than Glee Club) and I get that he's recurring, but his moveset would probably be based more with Karate than representing actual music and representing many mini games that made the RH games great. You could add them in KJ's moveset, but it wouldn't look right unless you base the moves on the combat based RH games like the Samurai. I would very much like Karate Joe, but only after the Chorus Kids get in.

Chorus Kids are basically the best representation of RH, they are singing choir boys themselves who best represent the music
and rhythm in the game and are able to implement many moves from the many mini games without looking strange. Think of it as G&W in a sense.

People like you are the reason we're getting Donk-Donk as the Rhythm Heaven rep.
What about Munchy Monk? Probably the best RH game I played. The master of Dumpling eating.

Wubaduba is that true?

Also same sales data according to Wikipedia. The DS game sold 1.5 million in Japan... that's pretty huge! No idea how strong the sales were for the GBA game, but the Wii game IIRC sold 850k+ish copies in Japan according to Media Creates/Famitsu.

More than just design but it's due to the whole "3 characters would be fun right" and "Another G&W". I just don't like Gimmick characters in general in the sense of "oh they are so wacky" and those would be just that.

They would be a giant clusterf*** on screen if they were 3 of them, they look like an after effect from Sonic Advance 3. Plus they'll just be taking moveset from other characters that people would want like Wrestler, Karate Joe and even Rhythm Girl. I like :4gaw: because there is no one like him, I just don't want another G&W in that regard. I ain't saying he'll be clone, that's stupid as hell but I just don't like their look and people forget Marshal who looks the same but has a much better design due to their lbs not not looking like nubs and I would gladly take him those freaks so maybe I'm petty but it's just how I feel about them.

That and I like the Wrestler and Reporter Girl more

I'm not too picky in regards to the Rythm Heaven series as I kinda suck at the games (I'm pretty bad at any rythm based game more or less, really....).

That said, if we do get one. I kinda hope their playstyle are a bit rythmic based in order to represent the series in a way. Not sure if it would work based off the beat of the background music as that might be a little too complex and situational to pull off, but probably a little like Marth's side special where you need to input the command on a type of sequence or something might work....

I agree. If we get a Rhythm Heaven character, they need to have a rhythmic moveset that represents the franchise more than the character itself. Rhythm Heaven-like gameplay in Smash for a fighter is pretty genius and fits with the way they design Smash fighters.

That's one of the main reasons I'm so intrigued in a RH character. Just to see how they manage to pull it off.

Didn't we know Battlefield was the fail-safe from when Kirby started going there in classic mode?
Yep, no idea why this happens though.

I assume the game just loads Battlefield when it tries to load a stage that doesn't exist to prevent it from crashing. Like, if stage = 0, then load Battlefield, or something. I don't know coding :psycho:

I'd think it's just a similar issue to the Name Entry glitch in Melee; i.e. you shouldn't be able to start a battle with no stage selected, but trying to start one while simultaneously going to the Extra page allows it for some reason, and then we know that the game loads Battlefield as a failsafe from before. I doubt it's tied to any data for stages we don't know about, just a UI flow glitch.

That's what I'm thinking too. Likely just a fail-safe that may have always been there.

It happened even before DLC actually, if all stages are turned off in random, Battlefield will always show up.
Also, if only Custom Stages are left on, they will be selected normally if Random is selected from the SSS, but it will load Battlefield if stage selection is left as 'random' in the rules menu

If only Battlefield gets loaded. Then it's most likely just a fail safe type of thing as others said. As nothing gets chosen, so instead of getting an error, the programmers coded it to make the game load up Battlefield as to ensure the game wouldn't crash.

The character select screen most likely has something similar too as the game would probably load up Mario if something similar to this where to happen.

It's a very smart thing to do and something I should keep in mind as well.

I don't think that stage thing means anything... unless they found hidden data, which I doubt.
Would love to see more 3DS stages.

Glad people are enjoying my article! It would have been longer but I originally thought it would act as a proper introduction to Push and Anvils "debate," and that was long enough as is.

As far as Isaac goes.... Golden Sun has 3 games, not two, and the last game was released on 2010, a year after the "recent" Wii Punch Out game.

Golden Sun as a series has sold approximately 3.75 million copies, making it the most successful Nintendo franchise of the last 15 years to not have a playable character in Smash. It might be the most successful franchise period, but I'd have to do some research (Panel de Pon probably has some pretty high numbers.)

Do I think Isaac is likely? Not particularly, but let's not pretend that there are a bunch of new (to Smash) first party newcomers that are somehow more deserving.

It really does show how much attention they pay to these things, though.
After all the Brawl hacking, i'm pretty sure they're trying to pay as much attention to these things as possible.

Fail-Safe programming is something that is likely a standard. I always find myself coding in a lot of fail safes for my own game out of habit.

Yeah, error handlers are basic stuff. Anyone minimally good at programming always puts fail-safes.

I think the fail-safe character in Smash 4 is Mario.

The extra slots for DLC characters were Mario before the 1.0.8 update. Even now, there are a few Mario placeholders.

Fully agree with everything you said.

I also need more of this in Smash:
