Well, Goku gets that reaction from most Smash fans, do remember Smash is still a fanbase made primarily made up of Nintendo fandoms, and they like that Smash is a game that celebrates Nintendo IPs.

Daisy on the other hand for a character that appears in Mario spin-offs, which people don't really mind or care about, it seems kind of weird she's one of the more controversial characters for Smash, and she was this way back in Brawl to an extent, so it happened before that guy showed up. So Daisy is really weird, though I honestly think if Daisy was added, he really wouldn't care.

Yeah, that's what's catching people off guard. Only other time it's happened recently was Unova, where he didn't really have a signature regional mon.

Well, I could see someone making a case that Pignite was he signature mon for the region, but otherwise, yeah I agree.

Basically, a super prominent non-starter that gets a lot of attention in supplementary stuff. It's a (relatively) newer thing compared to other Pokémon archetypes since it started in Gen 4, so it's why there's only three mons who really fit it.

Yeah, it's true that the Trainer was ostensibly based on the remakes, which were part of Gen 3. May have had to do with Gen 3 being a thing when Brawl development started, but I'm not sure.

Which actually makes me wonder again how seriously they considered the idea of Zoroark getting into Smash 4 alongside a Gen 6 mon. The attack the Zoroark summon does is very Final Smash-like...

Yeah, Zoroark may have made it, he does add an interesting concept after all, illusion fighter, but its possible just how the 3DS stopped Ice Climbers and Pokemon Trainer from coming back, possible the 3DS stopped them from fully realising the concept, it honestly would be nice if Sakurai and Co. did go back and look at old generations of Pokemon, cause the old Gens offer a lot of good concepts for fighters, and most of the popular Pokemon don't usually lose popularity in later gens. But who knows, maybe they could go back and decide to add a Gen 5 Pokemon, but I doubt it,

Far as I know, the idea wasn't seriously considered in Melee. Source Gaming is pretty good about getting the facts straight about Smash background details.

Yeah, I'm sure I'm mixing it up from somewhere. I thought I read about it in one of the discord servers we were both in at one point, but I'm sure its a mix up. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if the concept was written down for Melee, but they just didn't have enough time to get it to work.

Although thinking about it, Bell Sprout tower was either rumoured or planned to be a stage in Melee, right? May mind may have somewhere swapped out that stage idea for the Gen II Pokemon Trainer idea, since I want more Gen II in Smash.

Eh, maybe. They did show off Mario Maker at the Nintendo Championship at E3, the other year though. So the invitational could be the first showing of it to the public.

You know, this gives me a genuine idea, that would be pretty cool I think. What if Nintendo at an esports event, where they had a Smash Bros tournament, a Splatoon tournament, Mario Kart tournament, and the Pokemon championship altogether.

I kind of think it would be a great event. Also they'd need to add Mario Party, so contests can troll each other. I'd also love to see a Mario speed run contest, through the most brutal Mario Maker levels.

As interesting as it'd be to have a 100% blind tournament, it'd also be incredibly weird to have THAT be the game's debut.

The chance of a more official reveal sometime in April or May seems a lot likelier now than it was before.

Doesn't Nintendo usually aim for the Tuesday morning slot for their conferences? Has been for the past couple of years at least, so if the pattern continues, they could begin with the showcase on the 12th and continue with the Smash invitational after that.

Regardless, I feel like we'll get something before E3 anyway. ARMS and Splatoon 2 had tournaments at last year's E3 and both got dedicated Direct's before it. Though, this is all assuming there are "patterns" to begin with haha.
