So I just finished watching the final episode of Goblin Slayer.
I found the anime to be overall decent. It felt like a middleground to okay fantasy story. Yes, even with the dark elements like *cough* controversial stuff in episodes 1 and 7 *cough*, I still found it be alright with nothing that made me go"WOW, this is a really deep and engaging story!"
The same can be said for the characters. Most of them are okay, but nothing ground-breakingly awesome. High Elf Archer, Dwarf Shaman, and Lizard Priest ended up being my favorite characters of the cast because they all had some nice personalities with some nice chemistry with each other (High Elf Archer being rather amusing and casual, Dwarf Shaman having the fun banter with her while also being light-hearted, and Lizard Priest being the voice of reason), but they weren't characters that I can call my favorite fictional characters in existence. Goblin Slayer and Priestesses were okay lead characters with some alright characterization, but again, not exactly characters that I can be completely invested in. I really liked how strategic Goblin Slayer and utilized teamwork was in the ways that he killed the Goblins and those other tough foes he faced.
I do wish the characters had actual names though. I get it that the show is basically a DnD campaign, but I feel like giving these characters names would help give them more identity and not just calling them by their class names. There are some very cool and original character designs like Goblin Slayer and High Elf Archer, yet some felt like they were copied from other characters (a.k.a. red-haired Cu, Camilla, and Guts come to mind) despite looking decent.
The animation was okay for the most part, although the fights could've been better animated. The soundtrack was alright too, with highlights being the Ragnarock-sounding music during some of the fights, but the rest of the music was just there.
It's an anime that I'd rate 6/10 overall. It's not the best anime I ever watched; it's more so just a piece of candy to distract myself in case I'm feeling bored.
Oh yeah, Goblin Slayer is also confirmed to have a Season 2 on the way!
Not sure if I will go read the manga now despite hearing how it was better than the anime adaptation (and I can see why when I compared certain panels to the anime adaptation), but I might still give Season 2 a watch when it comes out.
