Something something try getting Path of Radiance without pirating. If you think is fine to pay as much as what you have to pay nowadays for that game... I would agree with you if they made those games easily available, but if they refuse to sell their old games, they ain't making any profit so pirating those games wouldn't cost them any money.

Still, they have the rights to sue them, that's for sure, specially since he got money from ads. But that's a pretty large amount of cash, too much in my opinion...

I'm pretty sure he was making money off of those ROM's. Not just having 'em for download. That's a huge illegal move.

Also, he decided to settle for 12 million. Nintendo wanted to try to go for 100 million instead. I don't really feel sorry for this guy, honestly. You don't make money off of somebody's IP without permission. It's common sense. Just like I don't feel sorry for Nintendo because they refuse to make things more easily available. They got barely 10% of what they wanted. Good enough.

Nintendo does need to do a better job at making their old games available, though.

That said, the amount even then is still excessive, regardless of the situation. Though if he suggested it, it implies he was able to give out that much money. But at least the court said yes, as that's a huge difference in cash, really. Ridiculous amount, of course.

Ninty really should stop worrying about being nickel'd-and-dime'd in regards to piracy and instead focus on making their old ass library of games readily available for consumers. Sure, it won't stop piracy all together, but at the very least that'll undercut it even further due to ease of access/distribution and with reliable platforms to play those old games on. Plus they'll be making even more money!

Btw, while I think Nintendo is petty as **** in all of this (they literally lose very close to the equivalent of 0 dollars because of piracy, thanks to how ubiquitous they are in corporate ventures and everywhere else), the couple probably should have not resorted to collecting ad revenue to keep the sites/servers up. That's just asking to put a metaphorical target on your back, and subsequently asking for a megacorp like Ninty to take a shot at you.

From what I remember, translating Mother 3 was a pain due to all kinds of in-game references that require licensing, same with music. So it's more of a case of "taking a while" and that the creator is against any censorship changes whatsoever. Or changes, period(bar basic translations).

That's a pain to deal with, so it's no surprise it's taking a while, really. They can't really use a fan translation either, so yeah.

They definitely should releasing more games with a VC service. Some will require licensing, though, but a lot don't. And it doesn't mean they can get the licensing either. The IP holder still has to say yes to begin with. Reality is, not all will. Seems silly they won't, since the Switch is an extremely well-selling system, but everybody's different.

It's still licensed music. It's one thing for people to sell the original cart, which was already paid for, it's another to redo the whole game. One needs new money since it's a new product entirely.

Imma just say this with my badlass new avatar...Nintendo has been going after rom websites for years now, always getting their games off the sites at the least. Was the money they gained a lot? Yeah. Did the owner of said website deserve this from getting money off of games that weren’t his own? Yeah. Is this gonna be forgotten by nosy people? Yeah. And finally, is this gonna make people leave Nintendo or stay sour for the long term? Hell Naw.

We all gonna get over this by the time Smash comes out and we’ll all be having fun with that (Sony lost their hate over crossplay stuff thanks to Spidey, Disney Channel stopped getting **** on once shows like Gravity Falls released, and we’re only gonna go through the same things once more)
