I remember when the Sonic Team was hesitant to reveal Sonic Mania because they thought it would suck or something.
and then mania came out and won
and then forces came out and lost

oops
They should just hire people who make exceptional fangames at this point instead of relying on what's hip and cool.
Fan games are hip and cool though. This is a paradox.

I'm gonna make manga with Natsuki.

Also the music is so good. I love Natsuki's theme.

Jamie Lee Curtis is in the Completionist’s Indieland stream... how’d he get her?
If I'm remembering right her she's into video games and so is her son, like I'm pretty sure they even did cosplay together at some point.

Jirard is kinda high up these days so I'm guessing it probably wasn't hard for him to get her (plus she seems like a chill enough person anyway,)

I played Sonic Chaos and Sonic Islands.

Sonic Islands is good, but my PC isn't great for 3D games. So even the low-end kit lags like **** for me. But I still liked it.

Sonic Chaos though. Holy ****.

I need the full thing, like, right now. I'd honestly say it's Sonic Mania-tier. The presentation, the level design, the music. All fantastic.

This freaked me out for a sec, only for me to realise I think I encountered an actual bug with the mod.

It's pretty weird that Monika is drawn at a perspective higher than the player's point of view, which probably means the MC is short as ****. can relate
Nah, the MC is just kneeling down to talk to Natsuki at eye level, completely oblivious to how patronizing it is. :p

I started playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney yesterday.
So far I'm only on the second case, but I'm really enjoying what I've played!

She also played Dead by Daylight with them.

Which makes me love her more considering Laurie Strode and Michael Myers are in that.

I finished it.

I got the "good" ending once again. So no special CG at the end.

But I gotta say, while it's a bit slow to start off, and once again suffered from some occasionally boring and stilted dialogue (particularly in the middle), Natsuki's route got me super invested, especially at the end. If I had to split it up into acts, Act 1 is mostly just cute and comedic stuff, like hanging out at the festival and going shopping for baking goods. Natsuki's witty dialogue made it really entertaining. Act 2 begins when Natsuki starts acting extremely reclusive and eventually, really aggressive towards everyone, in a way that denotes that something happened after your last date with her. You end up failing to make her any happier, even with Sayori's help. Who doesn't kill herself when you pick the other girls, by the way - since Monika has lost access to her game manipulation privileges when you first boot up the mod, she decides she'll comfort Sayori in your place during a fourth wall breaking moment. Not without teasing you for not picking the girl who is in the most danger and needs the most help, though.

But after Natsuki storms out of the classroom, you end up wandering around on your own for a bit, pondering over what could have happened to Natsuki, only to find her at your house. It's at this point that the error I posted about happened. I think there's supposed to be a CG here but it's not working for some reason. Anyway, I spammed the "Ignore" button and it brings me back to the game. I missed some dialogue because of this, but not much. Natsuki moves in with you basically, and while she's still really cold towards you for a while, Act 2 is basically all about trying to soften her up (again, though she's more stubborn now), while also figure out why she did a 180 on you. Eventually you both officially start a relationship and things start getting better. However, all throughout Act 2, any time you finish a day, you will get a flashback scene featuring Natsuki and her dad (who still doesn't have any artwork, unfortunately). These scenes are brief and try to paint a picture/build up to what happened to Natsuki. Basically, Natsuki's mother died when she was young (and her name was "Itsuko"). Her parents were married for 15 years before Natsuki was even born, so the father was completely devastated when her mother died. But basically he wasn't getting a lot of income and lost all of his self-confidence after this. In an effort to prevent Natsuki from ending up like him, he became really strict with her and tried to raise her in a why that encouraged her to be perfect, and better than everyone. That's why Natsuki bigs herself up so much. Her father scolds her for not meeting his expectations all of the time though, and as Natsuki becomes increasingly aware of what's going on, she practically demands that he just love her like a daugher, only for him to continue to be dismissive and not work on himself either. It all comes to a head during one argument when the father snaps and hits her. This is what led to her staying in your house.

Act 3 begins when you discover the bruise that's still there even after a couple of months (due to her lack of healthy nourishment growing up), and you work through building up trust between the two of you Natsuki's behaviour and insecurities mainly stem from the fact that she wants someone whom she can have "perfect trust" in, not just "enough trust to be comfortable". However, you do what you can and she gets more comfortable with you again.

Eventually you have to confront her dad when he shows up at your house, but instead of being angry or malicious towards you, he's basically just there to vent to you. After a while, he tells you he's gonna turn himself into the police for hitting Natsuki. You have the choice to let him do that, or offer to keep things a secret and get counselling for him and Natsuki and support them along the way. I chose the latter, and Natsuki agrees later that she wants that.

The next day, the father shows up and relapses, saying he feels too much guilt and doesn't feel like he can live it down, so he's going to turn himself in as he initially planned. However, Natsuki steps in and says that even if he doesn't want to reconnect with her, she wants reconnect with him as she has good memories with him, even if they are few, and would rather live on decent terms than know he's rotting in jail. So they start getting counselling and while she still lives with you, she's starts to spend more and more time with her father and that's where it ends.

It felt a lot longer than Sayori's route but that might be because it had a much more defined structure than Sayori's, and the goal kind of changed throughout. Your goal in Sayori's route is consistent throughout (treating her depression), while it changes around in Natsuki's. Sayori's route felt almost episodic because of that (though still felt cohesive).

But yeah I was kinda blown away by how they handled Natsuki's father and that whole backstory. I honestly can't pick between Sayori's and Natsuki's routes in terms of my favourite as they were both really good at different things. I was expecting Natsuki's dad to be completely malicious. And while what he did obviously isn't excusable, I feel the story handles it in a very mature way and recognises that "good people can do bad things".

I also really liked the underlying theme of "not everything has to be perfect".

All-in-all, they really leveraged a lot out of what we knew of Natsuki in the original game. Stuff like this makes it hard to say whether I prefer Sayori or Natsuki.

I'll do Yuri 's route some time soon.

"Sigh"

Some people are truly monsters. I don't think it's yet known for sure if the culprit is dead or not. In any case, I just hope some amount of justice can be served....(EDIT: From what I keep hearing, the culprit really is dead, so there isn't much left to do in that regard....)

Putting the man behind it aside, my prayers go out to all of the victims and their families. This is horrific and heartbreaking news.....

Apparently it was a guy who lost, left, and came back with a gun. ****ing salty ass coward. What a ****ing loser. Over a ****ing game, mind you. People need to learn how to take a ****ing loss. It was only a matter of time before someone became unhinged and pulled something as stupid and cowardly as this. Just people playing video games, hurting no one. Then one salty ****** comes and destroys so many lives. Schools, concerts, malls, churches, gaming tournaments, is nothing ****ing safe anymore? I really don't know what to say about it anymore, other than "for ****'s sakes, not again."

Can’t wait for the media to twist this against the gaming industry for the millionth ****ing time to appeal to all of the old ******** ****stains that still believe gaming is the cause of mass shootings.

Oh man, we had some major reveals that answered some of the biggest mysteries in the series:
  1. We now know the fate of Grisha and how Eren gained his Titan shifting powers. Turns out Eren ate his dad (who turned out to be a Titan shifter) back then, at the time when we saw Grisha giving Eren some kind of injection. This injection turned Eren into a Pure Titan, and Pure Titan Eren proceeded to eat Grisha from there. Eren was reverted back to human upon eating his dad, only to learn the shock and horror of what happened (Yuki Kaji nailed that crying scream!)
  2. We also learn that Frieda Reiss was Historia's half sister and that she frequently visited Historia back in the latter's childhood to check up on her. Seems like Frieda was aware of how isolated Historia was (still wish the anime had some kind of mention that Historia was bullied a lot by the other children, and this new flashback of Historia here could've incorporated it to show Frieda perhaps standing up for Historia when seeing it, but alas, we didn't get it) and just wanted to be like an older sister to her. We see the two had a cute bond, but Frieda always wiped out Historia's memories (thanks to Frieda's Titan powers) of meeting her after they played with each other just to protect the latter.
  3. We now know what really happened within the Reiss chapel when Wall Maria fell. It was not bandits that killed most of the Reiss and ravaged the chapel. It was Grisha! To be even more precise, Grisha raided the Reiss chapel to find the Reiss and take their Titan power that made use of the Coordinate. He turned into his Titan form, and Frieda did the same (neat detail: she bites her hand to transform just like Eren does. That explains why Eren always bites his hand to transform; it seems that he sub-consciously knows it from Frieda's memories). The two fought, but because Frieda didn't master her powers that well, she lost rather easily to Grisha, and Grisha proceeded to eat Frieda and gain the coordinate. He then proceeded to massacre the entire Reiss family while still in his Titan form (probably to leave no trace of survivors and witnesses, or maybe because he thinks none of the Reiss should have that power), and Rod was the only one that escaped alive.
  4. We learn more about the Ackerman clan that Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny are a part of. The Ackerman clan were once "the king's sword," basically serving as personal bodyguards. However, because they were immune to the memory wiping of the Reiss's Titan power, they were eventually feared by the royal family, and thus they were persecuted. Mikasa mentions that her dad, who was an Ackerman, eventually met her mother, an Oriential, and both came from persecuted families because they were immune to the memory wiping of the Reiss (almost like Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman met each other on the run, fell in love, and had a house in the countryside). Also of interest, Levi asks Mikasa if she ever had a moment in her life where she felt a surge of power overwhelm her and knew what she exactly she needed to do. Mikasa remembers something like that when she killed one of the human traffickers that tried to abduct her and kill Eren (this was during Mikasa's flashback in episode 9). Levi mentions Kenny had a similar moment to what Mikasa described. Looks like we are beginning to uncover the puzzle as to why Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny are so strong! Those Ackerman genes give them that surge of strength Levi described!
I already knew about these plot twists since I read the chapter the anime covered years ago, but it was still awesome to see it all animated, and it felt good to talk about them again, because damn, those were some epic plot twists!

And I must say, the anime did another awesome job adapting the first part of the Reiss cave scene from the manga. Not a single scene from that particular moment in the manga was left out. I'm also glad they even animated the whole flashback of Grisha and Frieda duking it out. I was a bit worried they would only present it in still images, so seeing it animated was cool. Sure the animation could've been better at that part, but I don't think WIT Studio wanted to use their budget for that particular fight scene. After all, this fight scene happened in a flashback that was meant to communicate what Grisha did at the chapel. There are more important fight scenes to use the budget on.

The anime changed Titan Frieda's hair color from white in the manga to black in this adaptation. That's a good change; it felt kinda odd her Titan didn't have a particular hair color in the manga.

There was also a very neat detail the anime utilizes during Titan Grisha's attack on the Reiss. When he first Titanizes, his Titan has green eyes, but after eating Frieda and gaining the Coordinate and her Titan power, his eyes change to a violet-bluish tint. That reminded me of something from earlier into the anime:

When Titan Eren fought Annie in the Season 1 finale, his eyes had a bluish tint too. Considering Titan Grisha's eyes changed to blue after eating Frieda, could this mean that Berserk Titan Eren form was the result of the Coordinate (like maybe, the Coordinate also has the ability to suddenly power-up the Titan in a desperate situation and make them more vicious in the process)? Or maybe the blue eyes could be the Titan powers of Grisha and Eren taking charge over the titan shifter in control (like the Titan suddenly gains the willpower over the titan shifter)? Either theory could be the case, and if this is the case of the anime trying to explain the Berserk Titan Eren addition to the anime that was absent from the manga (which was a controversial change because that particular form of Eren's Titan was absent during his fight with Annie), then I can forgive the anime-only Berserk Titan Eren addition from back then.

Moving on from this interesting detail of the Titan eye color change, I enjoyed Kenny's moments in this episode. It's clear he was putting some kind of fake act of kindness to the king the moment he turned away while saying "tsk" with a disgruntled expression on his faith. It seems Kenny may just have some ulterior motives. I also liked the transition to his flashback by having him look at a reflection of himself on his blade while contemplating on the past, and the blade glinting to show a younger Kenny to transition into that bit about Kenny's past. His dialogue with his grandpa was interesting stuff (it's there we learn about where the persecution of the Ackerman clan comes from), and we also learn about Kenny's sister: she works as a prostitute in the underground and was recently impregnated from one of her customers. Kenny encouraged her not to have the baby, but she still wants to give birth anyway.

Levi's squad eventually catches up to the Reiss chapel and are about to barge into it. A short distance away from the entrance, we see the rest of Kenny's squad awaiting Levi's squad from atop several platforms near the cave's ceiling; they are there to stop any intruders from interrupting the ceremony where Eren will be fed to Historia. Traute Carven, the blonde female in charge of them and Kenny's second-in-command, leaves a rallying speech telling them what's to come. It's a nice set-up for the major battle that will unfold between her group and Levi's group in the next episode. We even see Kenny walking away with a smile on his face, and the episode ends. Perhaps it's because he has faith Traute will lead her squad to victory. That smile could be him saying "I've done my part trying to stop them, but I've got other things I need to do. I leave it up to you now, Traute. Show 'em what I taught you and beat 'em up my way!"

This was a really good episode, my personal favorite so far! A perfect adaptation from the manga chapters this episode covered, and it was packed with some major reveals and some nice character moments from Historia, Kenny, and Traute. Looking forward to next week's episode. From the episode preview, it looks like we're reaching the climax of the Reiss cave scene!

The victims confirmed so far seem to have been well respected and well liked Madden Players well.

The person who is apparently being pinned as the culprit was apparently even an outsider in the Madden community.
