Just because it isn't being utilized often doesn't mean it's useless...
Some do find some use, but again, there are things like an upward hat throw that have literally no use.
Which is again, nothing wrong, imagine that you face with some hard stuff mid-game can be frustrating at time, I don't really want a 3D Mario game to be another Dark Souls lol.
I am so tired of people calling anything with a shred of difficulty a "Dark Souls"
Not to mention this is in no way a reply to my "put hard stuff in the post-game" point. If anything,
it supports it!
Also the fact you complain when experiment an option in a platformer will get you punished was also mid boggling... the only punish you get is just losing some coins. What I think is a punish is that you will lose tons of progress if you failed, in Odyssey you don't lose a lot besides of just doing it all over again.
In all fairness, Odyssey is so damn forgiving in everything that losing some coins
is the closest thing to death we have.
It's hard to judge what is punishing in a game where death has no meaning, no impact other than a 2-second cutscene and a minimal loss of only 10 coins.
But imagine trying to experiment with things in the racing minigames. One **** up and you gotta start it all over again. Now granted, it's also pretty nitpicky, but it's still a bigger punish than 10 coins because you lost more than just a handful of seconds here. (then again, you can always just train outside of the minigame itself, so whatever, I'm an idiot again)
So... you complained you can only use the mighty T-Rex in a limited area?
I can take certain nitpick but this is the nitpick where I found it pretty ridiculous, with a capture ability being that powerful it is unfortunate but also understandable that you can only use it in a limited time and area.
I'm not complaining about the timer, especially since they found a way to blend it into the "story" by saying Cappy can't take over something that big for a while. I thought it was a nice touch.
But if you want me to be a goddamn T-Rex, let me run over a huge landscape, dammit!
Again, pretty nitpicky, but imagine going through some vast plains as a T-Rex. Even if only for 30 seconds, it'd be awesome!
So yeah... while some of your nitpicks makes sense, but they are not where near to be considered as a flaw. Super Mario Odyssey is a very good 3D Sandbox Mario game, while it's replay value can be questioned by some, I still think the game is worth any platform gaming fans to pick up.
I do too, and honestly, I'm one who believes there's lot of reply value in there. I mean, the post-game content is just ****ing bonkers.
I just think there's many missed opportunities in terms of the mechanics and that we should get more worlds like Sand Kingdom or New Donk City.
