I'm honestly thinking the newcomers might all be focused on popularity more than anything. I mean, they really don't NEED to add anyone else right now and we can all agree we can't agree on any "shoo-ins" this time around unlike with Smash 4.
They have the Ballot results still and I wouldn't be surprised if all newcomers are characters that ranked very high.

Usually my main is just "younger Link 'cause fast and light" and I go from there. But now I have to take into consideration two kid Links that play differently. And I can't decide. I don't want to abandon one but I'm not sure if I want to main both.

And there's also Ice Climbers I wanna try, and Pokemon Trainer. And Snake, and Duck Hunt Dog, and Doc
It's a mess man I don't know. I have too many options to do anything with.

I typically give myself a new main with each installment, but that's not looking to be the case here. I don't think I will get any newcomers I personally care about.

I like the rework to Shulk a lot though so I will give him some more focus. Sonic looks dope so I will continue to play him. I need to see more Rosalina, I know she's had changes, I just don't know the extent of them yet, and how the new base game mechanics like the new air dodge mechanics would effect her. She will likely still be my main, kind of appropriate since this game is basically Smash Wii U 2.

Late, but here's my overall thoughts on the direct:

• Daemon x Machina looks cool AF. wish there was more info on it. Also kinda feel like the ending came somewhat abruptly? Still looks cool though.
• Super Mario Party looks neat. i might even actually get it.
• XB2 DLC...well, I'm not actually interested in XB2 much, but it's cool for people who are.
• Fire Emblem Three Houses is the ****. 2019 can't come soon enough. Interested to learn how the generics and formations affect gameplay. Also nice that we have a continent with a name again.
• I didn't really see anything in the ports montage that stood out to me that I didn't already know was coming.
• Don't really think I need to say that the Smash blowout was cool. Getting everyone from the series back is awesome. Pretty sure this will be Sakurai's last game in the series, and it's one heck of a grand finale. That said, it did feel a little stretched out. I get why he wanted to show of every returning character, but still it felt like a bit much.
• Heck yeah, Rdiley in Smash, finally!

Tl;Dr Edelgard 4 Smash.

But then Young Link is like "Hey here's Melee Link but basically what Toon Link would be" and I kinda dig the combo-y but still light Link. Again I'd have to play the two but I do want to focus more on one Link over the other. Muscle Memory sucks after all.

When you beat someone with Young Link, it's like, duh, it's the Hero of Time, of course he'll win, that's nothing special.

Beat someone with Toon Link, you're beating them with a baby faced kid with cat eyes wearing Grandma's homemade pajamas. It's demoralizing.
