I'd argue ripping people who often aren't fit for combat away from their friends and family to fight for a cause they may not believe in, and not giving them a say, is barbaric.

The way I see it is this. If the armed forces can't get people to volunteer, they're doing a **** job of marketing themselves. No need to get some random guy from marketing or a bookish linguist in some museum blown up against their will.

Switzerland does a good job of compulsory draft, I believe.

Personally, I'd say drafts are outdated today, due much better weapons existing and that we're unlikely to see wars on the scale of the World Wars. It was "necessary" during the times of expansionism though. Values and attitudes were different back then.

Even so, people compare same sex marriage to interracial marriage all the time and nobody has has a problem with that.

If you are offended by someone putting same sex marriage and incest in the same sentence when the intention is not to insult, that seems to imply that you find incest unequal or inferior to same sex relationships and are insulted by having them "compared", which says more about your own intolerance than that of the person who made the "comparison" in the first place.

People compare same-sex marriage to interracial marriage in the sense that they're both absolutely harmless and yet for years certain backwards people have tried to stop them from being legal. Incest isn't harmless since it has adverse biological impacts on the child.

You're attempting to make a comparison that absolutely falls insultingly flat.

The draft can be very good or very bad. A good and necessary example would be World War 2, a very bad example would be Vietnam.

I don't know if we'll ever even need a draft ever again though considering how huge our military is already and that war isn't primarily won by infantry anymore like it used to. Especially if we're ever going to fight any first world countries ever again.

It works for a scenario like WW2 when the war was happening during the great depression and Germany was conquering Europe. It just doesn't work so much when you have a Vietnam situation when you draft randomly in a war that wasn't necessary and we failed at considerably.

One I'd say is more so of an emergency scenario even if we stayed out of it for years, while the other, ehhhh... We did much more harm than good on all ends.

Good lord, this thread got really debate heavy and confrontational. A topic change could definitely do some much needed slowdown for this thread.

Alright. So here goes.

I enjoyed Conquest for what it was - it's an immensely fun game to play but with a weak story, as most would agree.
I played most of it on Casual this time, as the RNG is rather unfair here imo. Goddamn random enemy crits.

My favourite characters from my Conquest Run were Arthur (JUSTICE!), Beruka, Keaton and Silas (yes, I sorta identify with his goody-two-shoes nature and blind optimism).

I really enjoyed the maps in Conquest. Though I ended up routing most enemies either way, as I needed to grind.
There's even a map that is a callback to FE7. That was nice.

Velouria and Keaton were immensely helpful during the later parts of the game due to their ability to tank hits and deal damage like a boss. Elise too. (rip Shura, your boots didn't go in vain.)

Now, on to the story. I don't know if the story writer intended it that way, but imo it very much succeeded in showing war as senseless and messy. Like, this is the bleakest story in any Fire Emblem game to date, perhaps only barring Sacred Stones. Where it lacked was the reasoning for the war, but looking at how real wars have been fought for the silliest of reasons, I guess I can give it a pass. Doesn't make a gripping story though.

So, again, were the 50 hours I put into it worth it? Without a doubt, YES.

I believe Conquest's main problem is that you have concepts that would make Conquest much more reasonable for why you would choose Nohr, but because of bias for the peace-loving Hoshido, none of those concepts actually get explored. Like one of the big things for Nohr is the fact that Nohr is limited on resources due to the country being very destroyed. Heck, Leo actually uses his Brunhilde to help plant tomatoes, which while it seems like a fun little thing for Leo, it actually becomes pretty heartening when you realize that Nohr is very poor in resources.
Like this concept of the country conquering or dealing with other countries to make sure they have enough resources to help it's people is a big reason alone for why Garon wants to conquer Hoshido. But part of this non-existence comes from the fact that Garon is a very straight-forward puppet of the Main villain who is straight-forward insane and hateful towards humanity. And too much focus is put into that. It's rather sad because the concept of Nohr's poverty could've help make Garon into a sympathetic, yet cunning and manipulative character. But even then, there are other problems with the story that need to be addressed in order to make said personality and concept work.

Probably by actually using money to buy Lootboxes. I've been playing since September and even then I've never been able to keep consistent currency due to the events. But that's also from not buying a single lootbox. So far, I was able to get every Event Legendary in Halloween and Christmas without buying a single lootbox.

So Tales of Berseria seems to be one of the higher rated Tales games yet, getting good scores and the fans seem to like more than last couple of entries.

I opted not to get it though because of Digimon World Next Order coming out soon, it was hard to resist (that and January is stacked, Yakuza 0, Berseria, Gravity Rush 2, KH2.8, etc).

I'm sure the Dragon Quest 8 guy would do well in Pokemon but Moon mya struggle a bit in DQ8. I mean you can capture and tame monsters in some Dragon Quest games (it may have been the proto Pokemon). Haven't played that far in so maybe there's monster taming in 8? Dunno.

So Fire Emblem 4 and Another Metroid 2 Remake? Well, I guess Samus would be a pretty broken lead too, but she would fall behind fast because of how big FE4 maps are. Sigurd going around and killing things with swords and javelins while exploring a metoidvania like game in general sounds pretty cool though.(Speaking of which, I still need to get into the castlevania series.)

Lemme think. . .discounting things that would be difficult to pin a main character on, that would be, uh. . .Splatoon and Kirby Planet Robobot, maybe?

Honestly I'm not sure on either. Kirby's much higher stakes but is at a size disadvantage to Splatoon. It's a weird mismatch. Both would probably fare fine for the most part but have specific things tripping them up unless they improvise, Inkling moreso but I'm not sure what Kirby would hit an Octoweapon with since they're pretty melee unless they ended up producing stars during certain actions.

Last games with Guilty Gear and Gravity Rush 2. Kat would be a fun design in a traditional fighting game for sure. I don't know how Sol would fit into a open world action game but I'd figure he's got the right attitude.
