You can't compare the Smash fandom with the Sonic fandom. That's two WAY different ballparks.

I mean yeah, Smash fans can get pretty cancerous at times but the Sonic fandom is the prime evil of fandoms. It hates itself and basically everything else, and aren't afraid of showing it. And when they're fueled for rants? That's a rare exception of me using a mute button right there.
I'd say the Metroid fandom is starting to try to emulate Papa Sonic lately, and Pokemon and Smash can also occasionally dip into the same general brand of crazy.

But being of "the same brand" is like a hot sauce company producing "Mild" and "Habanero Death Blaster." The Sonic fandom is. . .special. . .and not (well, not most importantly) in the way most people make fun of it for.

Browsing Sonic Stadium for even five seconds was one of the worst experiences I've ever had as a Sonic fan, and I lurked Sega's official forums for two years with that place being moderately toxic at times. It left me with a general impression that it's what most of the core Sonic fandom is like that's stuck with me since then, and I wouldn't touch that place with a 40 foot pole.
Sonic Stadium has the issue of just being a melting pot of anyone who likes some form of Sonic so nobody agrees on anything. It also has a lot of the younger crowd, and they have a bias towards certain big-name users too. They are a good news source which is why I still follow their Twitter page, and they're responsible for Summer of Sonic (which gave me one of the best weekends of my life) but that's about it.

Then Sonic Retro is basically where a lot of older, Classic Sonic fans hang out. It's not as pure toxic and mindless as Sonic Stadium, but they're very cynical and sometimes quite snobby. Full of Hot Takesand psuedo-intellectual posts (i.e. posts that use a lot of big words that don't say a whole lot and come off as having a pretentious, "I know best" attitude). They also have a really strict sign-up process. I tried to sign up once and didn't even get offered a trial run (you become a trial member first, where you get 20 trial posts, and you're evaluated after using all of them as to whether you can contribute enough to be worthy of keeping around). As eye-rolling as some of the discussions are, their community deserves credit for having the best Sonic wiki around (their "Second Only To SEGA" slogan is actually well-earned), and for being full of talented programmers and fledgling game designers, so it's fun to check out the Reverse Engineering and Fan Game boards there. A lot of members of the Sonic Mania dev team were a big part of this site at one point.

The only Sonic community I can think of that I've actually been exposed to that I think is pretty good is, ironically, the Tumblr Sonic fandom. Tumblr has a pretty bad reputation for fandoms in general, usually for containing "the worst of fandoms", but with Sonic, I think it's actually the opposite. The Sonic fans there are generally pretty mild-mannered and, if they're not, they're the over-excited, positive type, which can come with it's own problems but with Sonic, I don't find that as bad since unadultered negativity with Sonic has become so staple that it's just tedious at this point. Seeing people being too positive is a breath of fresh air by comparison.

I've been on this site for 3 ****ing years and you know what bothers me the most about it? The terrible sense of humor of all of you.
Seriously, I make well-thought jokes all the time and get, like, two ****ing likes for it but if I just screenshot the report feature with any bull**** written on it, my alerts suddenly flood. And it's not just now, it's EVERY. TIME.
Is this humor to you? Is fakely reporting people that funny to all of you? Don't believe me? Fine, I'll prove my point, I bet none pf you will even read this whole thing, you'll just see the pic and click like anyways

It's funny that Shish is getting bullied again as I introduced my friends to LWA today and they're loving it
Yes, more have been converted >:^)
Now hopefully they get in the right ship. The one with cannons to back it up.

Also, Trigger has expressed interest in making a second season so this means I won't have to cry every night because it's over.

And with how big OVW is, it's gonna have a League of Legends-tier fandom in around a year or less.
Oh no....

League of Legend tier is the absolute worst tier....

Multiplayer focused games just get there very fast.

I'm pretty sure it got there already, even before it became a year old just recently. Seriously, it says alot where before being even half-a-year old, people were getting reported and banned just for being a character that was not Meta. There is a reason the term "Hanzo mains" exists.

Boost never felt like a natural progression to me. The fact it started in Rush(a game I can't enjoy no matter how hard I try) and not Unleashed may be why. It feels more like a 2D gimmick that just puts you in a stage of "too fast to decently control most of the time". Keep in mind I could not stand Mach Speed at all, and Unleashed didn't feel much better once Boost came into play. Obviously it was more controllable, but the degree was not ''high'' enough for me to feel in control.

The previous 3D games, that didn't use Boost, did sometimes lock you into an area to try and keep you "on course". Effectively making it like it wasn't actually in 3D. That was normal, but not necessarily good either.

That said, Boost just never worked out for me. On another note, I prefer the old Homing Attack, where you didn't have to wait to lock on. You did have to wait a bit, but it was shorter and felt like it let the stage progression flow faster. Of course, there's less glitches this way so I do see the merits of it.

Considering it was blocked instead of outright getting a strike, I think it's just the YT algorithm being bad.

Watched Jirard's Sonic Mania review.

I respect Jirard, and Matt is my dude, but that review felt like the definition of manufactured, lol.

Like it wasn't a bad review inherently and the skit moments were funny but the "DARK AGE IS FINALLY OVER" stuff, the fact Jirard blatantly contradicts stuff he said in his earlier videos (Sonic Forces was in his "Top 10 Games I Played At E3 That I'm Excited For" video, but Sonic Mania wasn't, and he played both at E3, yet he's super down on Forces in this video all of a sudden?), and the more flimsy points in there like about the Blue Spheres stuff, just re-enforce the feeling that Jirard's videos are very manufactured, like each video is designed to get a specific kind of reaction.

I mean I guess it's to be expected, what with him being part of a bigger business now, but still, it's disappointing. I used to love his days where the points were more fleshed out and the humour was more original than bashing on something.

No, it really isn't.

Heroes of Newearth is such a bad tier, HoN died. Then comes DotA

Then comes pre 2013 league of legends

Then, probably a few other games, then current LoL. Current LoL is actually pretty chill. Especially out of ranked. I mean it isn't great, but it's definitely way better than what i've seen from OW at the very least.

Risky Boots mode in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero comes out August 29th!
There was a problem fetching the tweet
I want them to release an entire Shantae Collection so I can play them all the way through.

Really don't want to mess with all the different consoles the games are scattered about.

why? Just... why?
They had green Doritos before.

I'm pretty sure it's already there. Well, nothing is topping Sonic. But all popular things have a ****ty part of the fanbase. The more people like it, the more assholes that will cling on to it too. Just don't let it stop you from liking what you like.

To be fair, you CAN get the first 3 on a single 3DS. But if you want a physical copy of them all, they yeah, you'd be screwed. The only way you'd get a good copy of Shantae on GBC is by selling your own first born child. I can't remember if Risky's revenge got a physical release, I don't think it did.

I thought of the final major super hero for my comic.

Captain Cosmos.

He has the ability to control gravity and he can make like pockets in the air where there is no oxygen. I don't know what I could call that to make it easier to describe. lol

Already finished all eight episodes day one. One of the most exciting things I've been anticipating forward to and I was not disappointed! :)
Also it served as somewhat of a memory jogger to somewhat of the character's names I've forgotten too so there's that.

I want to, but I still need to watch Iron Fist

Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage are all complete but Iron Fist's bad reviews are so poor I got put off. Would probably still finish up Teen Titans and Lucha Underground unless Defenders gets spectacular reviews.

I skipped Iron Fist for the same reason. But I don't think it is really needed to enjoy Defenders from what I have seen.

You can get three out of the four Shantae games on 3DS.

I recommend Risky's Revenge as a starting point unless you really want to start with the original.

So apparently Whitehead and the others are currently working on a patch for Mania for all the countless (harmless) bugs.

I really hope they consider patching in & Knuckles for Sonic/Tails to have all 3 mapping the Super mode to another button other than jump. Because it really conflicts with everyone's abilities. You know how many times I've intended to glide or fly or even drop dash only to go super and just kinda breaking my momentum.

I don't really care for using the super mode during regular gameplay, if only because I don't like how the music overrides the stage music (it's always been that way, doesn't make it less annoying).

I beat the Knuckles campaign in Sonic Mania.

The game is still great.

My first playthrough (Sonic & Tails) I got 3 out of 7 emeralds.

I got 6 out of 7 with my Knuckles playthrough.

Hopefully I can get them all in one go with the Tails playthrough.

Question for those who got all the Chaos Emerald with Knuckles.
Does Knuckles fight the secret final boss, or is that a Sonic only thing?

He doesn't fight the true final boss.

BUT you can still fight him as either Knuckles or Tails via the level select cheat.

While praline comes up with characters, I have a half baked worldbuilding project I really need to figure out character details and a plot for.

In medieval times, dozens of worlds were connected to each other by thousands of portals across every planet involved. Monsters and magic were common, and brave knights and royals fought valiantly to protect the land.

Obviously who the monsters were was pretty subjective, but if you're looking for a commentary on the evils of the human race I'm afraid I have to disappoint you. It was a war of a dozen sides, a massive mess of crazed animals picking fights with each other over everything else not reaaally being intelligent all at once. Sapient life is so charming, isn't it? Eventually two of the more clever sides, and yes that includes humans go ahead and pat yourself on the back like the egotist you are, managed to get enough of an upper hand to catch each other's attention.

Humans won that fight for a good decade actually. Even upended a couple of nations without thinking much of it. The wonders of inventing swords and armor, eh? They didn't even realize they were hunting anything smarter than pests.

So of course the "pests" got busy reverse engineering their technology and studying their battle tactics. Surprise! Of course, it wasn't really enough to drive humanity off, but the wakeup call was hilarious.

No, what drove humanity off was the fun part. It wouldn't be the first time that world got utterly trashed and it probably won't be the last, but a little spot check to make sure the locals haven't played kiss-up to the cosmic horrors that nearly flattened it the last time might be a good idea. Hey, better surprise!

So of course we've got the army desperately trying to save themselves from extinction at the hands of uncaring invaders and the army desperately trying to survive against forces way out of their league rapidly encroaching on their homeland now. Without a bias one way or another, narrative causality says stalemate.

Eventually someone must have gotten tired of it, because all those gates between worlds got locked off from each other somehow.

Fast forward to the present, humanity for the most part has pretty much forgotten half the things out there and let the memories of the other half mutate into wildly inaccurate fairy tales. Soon enough archaeologists find one of the constructed world gates and manage to jam it back open, reopening the whole system in the process. Pretty quickly the government panics and starts cautiously investigating, trying to figure out how to handle everything. Responses vary pretty wildly, but the old rivals are willing enough to exchange cautious first contacts and try to figure out how to get into talks.

Aaaaand then you have the monster hunting guilds that waited metaphorically underground for this day trying to start something again. Thankfully for everyone involved other sources of contact make it pretty clear that they're just picking fights on their own. They charged in with swords when a gun would have been fine. And got some nice laser blasts to the face for their trouble. Surprise! Turns out some folks didn't want to get caught with their pants down again, so they ended up overcompensating. Nothing a little bit of modern tech couldn't flatten give or take some Geneva violations, but you know, idiots.

And of course cosmic horrors are still having fun as usual. Why not, really? Oh, but don't buy the whole "a glance drives you mad" thing. Why would it? Now, some long term play, that might be a little hard on you for a few reasons, but a brown note? Pssh, how fragile would you have to be for that?

And now, with everyone setting the stage for "has to be at least better than last time," a random person manages to be one of the first to wander through. It didn't HAVE to be an adventure, but you know, maybe it's for the best for everyone involved that it is.
