Yawn works weirdly, that's why most Pokemon with it seem to be spamming it needlesslyY run update.

Got a lot done today. Olympia's badge is now ours (with little effort since we were a bit over leveled) and stopped Team Flare's shenanigans. Speaking of Olympia, she nearly spammed Yawn with her Slowking. Dear god that "strategy" is annoying. It really only drags on the fight. Thankfully she didn't spam it.
... Looking back Lysandre really does come off as a bit of a Cyrus copy cat. Main goal is essentially to recreate the world, in the end they wind up using a legendary to do so, and even share two Pokémon (Honchkrow and Gyarados).
The AI has a check to see if the opponent is afflicted with a status and if they aren't they may attempt to afflict it. Since Yawn takes a turn to take effect and there isn't a check to see if the Pokemon is under the Yawn effect, it attempts to afflict it again as it thinks there's none
And since most switch out after Yawn, it becomes an endless cycle
Guess grinding won't be as much of a pain this time aroundGamexplain did a discussion on the preview with some more insight on it. Trainer rematches seem to be back.
