So after close to three weeks, my internet came back. It was a heartfelt reunion.

Also happy birthday Crash!

And the reboot theory is dumb and nothing more than genwunner nonsense. :p

It's ruffling to me because what he's arguing is a hard reboot and most of the Pokemon I like are from later generations.

If you read the post you quoted for example you can see it's a hard reboot he's describing rather than a soft reboot.

If it was a soft reboot I might be mildly skeptical but I wouldn't be bristling up like a rabid animal. Heck, TV Tropes classifies Gen 3 and Gen 6 as reboots, and the alternate universe theory essentially implies a soft reboot with each and every game. That's fine.

What the theory guy wants is a complete scrubbing of the entire series, with the point of that post being that his desire is specifically his vision of such. That's what's got me worked up.

That and while it may just be the YouTube comments I read jinxing it, his presentation has a dramatic flair that serves to exaggerate the perception one has of whatever he's saying. For someone with a positive view it might come off entertaining, but if one feels a bit uncomfortable with the idea of all of their favorite Pokemon being purged. . .
I don't think what he wants out of the reboot discredits the other information he's gathered

One of the things he says is that it might not be a full on reboot, but just the beginning of a new overarching story

There is no overarching story in Pokemon so there can't be a "new" one

Downloaded the NES/SNES/Gen/GB/GBA emulator for Xbox One everyone was panicking over (might as well get it before its inevitable takedown).

Got it working on muh PC but still trying to find a way for Xbone.

Well, his theory proposes that there actually is, and has been building up to something for a while, hence the phrase "It all comes together" associated with this new game. Various things to do intertwined with alchemy and mythology that span at least from gen 4 but mostly 5 and 6

I'm not saying it does, although with my natural impatience to the point of skipping nine tenths of the episodes of most shows I watch on Netflix combined with the subject put forward I couldn't bring myself to sift through it and would much prefer to have some bullet points laid out of what he covered.

Starting a new "overarching story" though. . .I wouldn't mind a shift in conventions as long as it was handled delicately, but in terms of actual STORY there's only even been an overarching narrative since Gen 6. All the other gens were only connected by offhand comments. The anime has an "overarching story" of Ash always being the main character that they could shake up starting with Gen 8, but the games don't have much to overturn in the first place.

. . .Again, I've only noticed lore starting to relate to multiple situations starting with Gen 6. I'd legitimately like bullet points, after the first few minutes it became obvious he was going to take several minutes at a time to describe each minor detail of what he was getting at while none of it would likely make sense until the last couple of minutes with the entire mass laid out.

I know which video you're referring to...he was speaking of a hypothetical scenario of a possible hard reboot that completely changes the pokemon formula given current trends of the pokemon brand and in current trends in gaming and other Nintendo brands...

He wasn't ruling out a possible soft reboot, or none at all...

His theory is centered the end of the Pokemon's story arc, which has a lot to do with the Alchemy stuff he's speaking about...thus creating an opportunity for Game Freak to make such changes to the franchise...

As he mentions in the video a big portion of the Pokemon fanbase doesn't play Pokemon anymore, they've 'outgrown' the games, so if Game Freak wants to get them back they have to push nostalgia as well as make it more 'adult' while still appealing to children...to which he states it would be a smart decision to do so...

Me thinks Game Freak is still regretting going straight from weather controllers to LORDS OF TIME AND SPACE featuring the comedy styling of ANTI-MATTER, brought to you be GOD ITSELF.

Of the others we got Truth vs Ideals, Life and Death and now sun and moon but in the alchemical sense and not in the logical sense that would make them fire and dark types.

What makes that feel off to me is that the people complaining about how the storyline is too kiddy are the current fans. The people outside the fandom would either call it childish no matter what the story was or just wouldn't give a crud.

I'd argue it's Pikachu that drives new players away from the series, not the overall tone, and that wouldn't change with a reboot. Anecdotal, but an adult I know thought Pokemon was dorky partially because Pikachu was the face of it. Then they tried to give me an alternate version of a game I had, I said "Why don't you try it instead?". . .and they got addicted for a month straight while commenting that partially due to Pikachu being the face of marketing they assumed it was all dorky and that they were surprised both at how fun the game was and how much better many of the other Pokemon designs were. If they made another Pokemon part of marketing, they could tap the adult market a bit better without changing tones.

"the end of Pokémon's story arc" seems like a really stupid way to change a series' formula. I know the story matters to quite a lot of people, but it really isn't that important to consider changing the gameplay.

Making it more for adults is pointless. Pokémon is supposed to be for everyone.

You mean like Charizard, Mewtwo and Lucario? Perhaps you could count all version mascots (besides Yellow) as well...if people are turned off simply by the game's mascot that's their own close-mindedness keeping them away not the games themselves...its like saying 'I don't want to play Zelda because I don't like Link's hat!' Although they'd probably call him Zelda because they are ignorant...

However, as stated with the whole reboot theory making the games appeal to an older crowd in addition to children is something that possibly can entice both new and former fans to come into the series...

Every time I think "more adult" I imagine some vague aura of edgelord emanating from the concept a person is mentioning, LOL.

That and we already have storylines about one Pokemon dying causing a guy to decide to kill millions of others with a superweapon and meteors almost destroying entire countries. We're dark already.

TBH with a reaction like that I'm not sure if they even knew what other than Pikachu even existed. And considering Pikachu is disproportionately on every piece of marketing compared to those three and the mascots, on the vast majority of merchandise. . .it's not a "Zelda's hat" situation because Link is the only playable Zelda character and there are 700+ other Pokemon.

And what reboot is exactly going to catch people's attention? What "dark storyline" is going to get people not in the fandom interested? Turning and leaving because they see Pikachu as the face of the series may be shallow, but humans are pretty shallow in general. Once they saw that face, if they deemed his design "kiddy" they wouldn't even stay long enough for the plot.

Heck, I'm fine with Pikachu. I just know a personal example of someone hating them to the point of wanting to punch them in the cheeks (at which point I pointed out Pikachu's cheeks are where it's electricity comes from and they said Pikachu wanted to be punched then), and I get the feeling like that might extend to a lot of other people. A co-mascot would do more for their image than any grimdark reboot, because at the end of the day it's still the series with the weird yellow mouse to anyone who isn't specifically paying attention.

Yeah, there's those mascots.(Though I wouldn't count Mewtwo or Lucario, but whatevs.) But when it comes to people really unfamiliar with the franchise, pikachu is more or less the only pokemon that comes to mind.(Yes, not even charizard for most people unfamiliar.) I don't really even like pikachu, but he's undeniably THE face of the franchise.

Find out why I can't get the emulator to work on Xbox One: Creator says it hasn't been approved by Microsoft yet.

Even though they approved the PC & phone versions, I'll be shocked if they do the same for Xbox One.

Well guys; 700 encounters in a Fairy Friend Safari and no signs of a Shiny Kirlia (I want to make a competitive based Shiny Gardevoir before Sun and Moon hits). Is RNG being cruel or could my game be broken? :p

I'm watching videos and stuff on the side to keep me entertained. I have gotten other Shiny Pokemon in the past either way, my favorite being a Shiny Gliscor I found through Horde Hunting near the end of 2015, I believe.

It's official, the Kirby moniker is slowly taking me over.

Compared to other methods, it's a 1/512 chance; the Shiny Charm won't change that. It may take time, but it's the best chance besides using PokeRadar at the magical number of 40 (1/200 chance).

Yes. Evidence shows they are 8 times more likely to be a Shiny Pokemon.

It's also a 1/512 chance by using the Masuda method with a shiny charm. I happened to get a shiny :029: recently doing that.
