i give 0 ****s about sonic mania.How many times are they gonna go back to "sonic roots" this is like there 4th time

I'm not even sure what anyone means by "roots" anymore. It's a new 2d Sonic game with a new engine, new mechanics, levels, ect. and it looks pretty damn good too. Isn't that what we want? A good Sonic game?

Mario does it literally every game.

Examples from 3D World alone:

-Mario Kart level
-4 character team from SMB2
-Many other SMB2 references
-Plastic boxes with screws dotted about levels like SMB3
-Bullies from SM64
-Had an entire world themed after Galaxy with Galaxy music (hell, World Crown's theme is LITERALLY Rosalina's theme, completely unedited), Lumas, and playable Rosalina who had Mario's spin attack from Galaxy.

Sonic makes an old school game once every blue moon. And still manages to do new things with it (example in Generations: RPG-like skill system, skateboard power-up, and co-op missions).

Hmm... Another thing to point out; isn't Sonic Team making a full fledged Sonic game? I doubt this is the game that was meant to please everyone; this is just the icing on the cake (especially to the nostalgic fans of the game series). The cake itself is whatever the true Sonic game will be (which many are hoping are what brings Sonic back into a good light, which I'm afraid to say is a far stretch from how most of the fanbase seems to be crazy about the series overall).

And my point was more that Sonic is a more innovative franchise than Mario, it doesn't often rely on nostalgia. Mario is all about nostalgia, even outside of the NSMB games.

So stepped away a bit before the event started.

Seems nice so far.

Sonic Mania is obviously a side project and a pretty cool one at that imo. I don't use Steam and haven't had a chance to play most of the older Sonics so I'll probably pick that up. It looks good and it's a nice and simple way of contributing to the beginning of the franchise, it's history, and potential future. The ??????? reveal is clearly the new sonic game that's the main attraction, especially since it says make history before that.

I do hope and believe Sonic Mania will be on the NX but they weren't allowed to say it yet. There would be no real reason not to. So I'm happy so far. Looking forward to the rest.

the game looks fun,sure but a gameplay style we havent seen in decades?Didn't the advance end in like 10ish years ago.than you have sonic 4 episode 2 which gets way to much hate despite practically sonic 2 and CD with decent tag mechanic.Than you have generations. Than you have the return to colors which is classic sonic story in its finest.

Sonic 4 did not feel like the Classics at all. Also didn't use Classic Sonic. Was also made by Dimps.

Generations was a 2-in-1 deal, you got Classic Sonic (with modern tech and innovations to his gameplay), and you got the newer Sonic gameplay too.

Mania is an indie title made by a Sonic fan. Nothing to do with Sonic Team.

Sonic Team only made one throwback game.

Nintendo EAD work on both NSMB and 3D Mario. Same team. And even the latter still rehashes stuff.

Im gonna be that guy and say that i already prefer Sonic Mania to whatever the new game is.

Yeah im sorry, but most 3D games of Sonic have failed to get my interest so im not really getting my hopes up for the new 3D game (still open to the idea of the new Sonic game as long as it is good though)

It's a shame that they can't call this Sonic 4 because this already looks a much better Sonic 4 than......well, the actual Sonic 4.

I would have prefered a cartoon style similar of that from Wario Land Shake it!, but i like the Sprite Art.
