I've been posting a lot less here and on other forms.
Maybe it's a sign for me to probably go. I mean a lot of people have left as well so it's probably looking like it.
I'm in the same boat. There's not really much of an incentive to keep posting, atleast for now. The only hurdle that prevents me from quitting the site is finding an alternative, and that'd take a while. I don't browse YouTube and DeviantArt as much as I used to, so going back to those would make no sense. As I've mentioned in the Disco Room thread, it may just be some "activity drought" and I'd get back to being active as before later on.
You know, I've always wanted to ask: Just how many of us still go to Smashboards mainly for Smash?
Personally I don't. I've not cared for anything competitive for a long time now. Anything else is mostly there for me whether it be tiers, matchups, or tournaments.
I originally joined Smashboards in response to the then-impending release of the latest Smash Bros. games, particularly the Nintendo 3DS version, as that was the one I was interested in the most. I thought I'd be talking about that version all the time throughout my time in the site, but after finding threads such as this one and the 3DS/Wii U social thread, the idea went to the nearest recycle bin available. Speculation wasn't the reason why I joined, as I figured it'd be pointless to talk about fictional characters getting in a roster over nothing, as well as being angry in the occurence of a highly-speculated character not making it in as a playable character, only to get warnings, infractions, or even bans in the process. As time went on, I no longer viewed Smashboards as a place to discuss the game, but rather as a mere online forum site where I could talk about almost everything, mainly for three things: video games as a whole, technology, and arts. That mindset I have still continues to this day, although I've been posting less as of lately.
In regards to competitive play, I did express some interest towards it in late 2012, and went as far as playing Melee with some of the advanced techniques throughout 2013. Somehow, I stopped caring about it after my Wii was no longer able to read the disc in early January 2014, but then I regained interest twice-- during early 2015 and 2016, in an attempt to get better playing as Dedede, and a few others. After figuring out several aspects of competitive play were too much for me, such as frame data, matchups, tier lists, most of the competitive jargon, and hitboxes, just to name a few, I ultimately gave up and settled on a skill level between what is considered to be the casual way of playing, and the competitive way of playing.
A particular reason on why I gave up on the idea of going competitive was because it'd be pretty time-consuming in the long run, and I'd set everything else as a low priority. Winning through each tournament wouldn't really give me any benefits other than gaining a huge amount of money and showing off my skill. Flying through places just to play Smash Bros. would be absurd in my opinion, as I think there would be lots of more interesting things I'd want to do instead when I travel. Another reason why I gave up was watching streams. Watching the Wii U version get played by many players out there in tournaments would only result in sheer boredom, and I'd just leave the tab for approximately 5 to 10 minutes until I closed it and moved on. Perhaps I just wanted to play the game by myself, or wanted to do other things. Not sure. That's just what I think.
With this day being my two-year anniversary, I'd say the time spent on here has been better than what I had dealt with in the past. There have been several misunderstandings and notorious events with certain users along the way, but they are pretty much next to nothing compared to what my previous group of chatters had done. My activity on this site may be slowly declining, at least for now, but here's to a few more years until I finally move this thing into the history books.
I may not talk about Smash Bros. as much as I used to on here, but it's still something I always have in mind. Thank you very much for letting me write this huge wall of text.
