So I went and checked the blog of that one grumpy guy again, and he had one new post that said that he believes the idea of the NX having cartridges that people have been passing around.

Then he linked this NeoGAF post. . .

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=208078861&postcount=4772

Ohohohoho. That's interesting.

I think I'd like cartridges, actually. The only time the Wii U runs at any sound louder than a whisper is when a disc is whirring in there. Use a cartridge instead of a disc, and you basically have Silence: The Video Game console. I know. I've seen a Sega Genesis run. I've seen a DS run. I've seen a 3DS run. Nothing more than the last one having a light noise if you practically shove your ear onto it. I don't know the pros and cons of anything else on it aside from people saying stuff about the price that Mr. Grumpy seems to think the exact opposite of (I.E. most people say it'd be more expensive, he said that considering Vita and 3DS game prices it'd probably be cheaper), but the noise reduction alone would make cartridges nicer to me.

*EDIT* Oh honey did I get Greninja'd on the cartridge topic? Cute. :awesome:
I hope this means the trend of making special cartridges comes back.

I want a golden Zelda BotW cartridge bruh.

CDs tend to be more fragile too, so I suppose cards also have that advantage...

On the other hand, that might mean no Wii U retro-compatibility (save for digital downloads, I suppose).

At the same time, it makes much more sense to make Wii U ports (Smash NX, anyone?).

I would love colored cartridges.

The 3DS had the option to and simply didn't though, right?

The DS skipped color due to only black working with transmission or something IIRC, but I don't think they've picked the habit back up yet.

Won't cartridges hurt third party support, big time?

If the NX is cartridge based then it looks like the days of having to blow the cartridge when the game isn't working is back. Such a pain every time I wanted to play SNES/N64 games.

"Buy a Wii U while you still can"

That could likely be hinting at a lack of backwards compatibility. After all, do you really need to buy a Wii U if the NX runs all of your games?

Can't hurt what is already dead :troll:
Yeah, pretty much.

Third parties won't touch Nintendo no matter what they do, may as well opt for the superior format, shove out your own games, and march to the beat of your own drum until they crawl back to you. Nintendo all but stated the latter two points was their game plan, and they don't really have much else in the way of options anyway.

If it's easy to dev content for the cartridges then it doesn't matter. See; the 3DS.

I remember doing it until Smash 64 worked. ^_^

Funny thing: It didn't help it at all.

I mean, it can't be that hard to put content on a cartage... No harder than a digital copy, right?

From a practical point of view (user perspective), being in a cartridge or a CD really doesn't matter much since what matters is the content stored inside. Both are ROMs and both have what the audience wants.

Now the technical parts, production, manufacturing... That's a whole other story. :p

GLITTER LUCKY!

DUB POWER! GLITTER FORCE!
The shows name is Smile Precure not Glitter Force

And tat girls name is Miyuki, not Emily

You sir just made yourself a powerful enemy :glare:

Just kidding.

But seriously if your into the series, and don't mind subs, I seriously recommend checking out the series this comes from.

Also just going to mention, the dub cuts out episodes from the original runs of Glitter Force/Smile Precure. Also quite an important one I find.

Its one that deals with Yayoi/Lily's dead father, it actually helps add a deeper layer to her character I find

It could go either way.

Data wise, make's no difference. You can store data on either or just fine.

Production wise, it's a bit more expensive.

Though carts load faster, potentially making it easier for games to run.

It depends. I don't think it will be the biggest factor in third party support.

If it's going to be like the old Nintendo days with bulky cartridges, I'm out.

K. Thanks for telling me. Just asking a question. There's no law against it, right? No offense.
It's one of the few dumb questions.

It's like going to a history class while the teacher is lecturing and interrupting to ask what she's talking about. If you listene you would have found out.

I'm not a technology guy, but if the cartridge is about as powerful (if not a little bit more powerful) as an Xbone/PS4 disc and is easy to port to a cartridge, we could have decent third party support for the NX.

Speaking of the NX, I just had a few ideas as to what NX could stand for if it ever needed a full name;

Nintendo Xtreme

Nintendo X-Com

Nintendo Xcellent

I honestly think the first one makes sense; the other 2 are based off a game with a similar name (probably wouldn't work) and the other one might not make sense in general, even if the console turns out to be Xcellent. :p

MY GOD... IT WAS A QUESTION. Leave it at that. I'll read it from now on but just shut down the topic. You're acting like I just bullied someone.

Isn't it already called the Nintendo NX? So that would mean:

Nintendo Nintendo Xtreme

Nintendo Nintendo X-Com

Nintendo Nintendo Xcellent

.... I have no regrets.

What's an Xbone?

Well you don't have to blow on DS/3DS cardtridges. We'd have to see what shape they are first.

That said, I think even that situation, no matter how inconvenient, would probably bring back nostalgia for a lot of people.

If the NX does cartidges, they're probably going to be super small, thin cartridges that work just fine, like the 3DS guys. There's no reason to freak out. Cartridge technology has changed in the past 20 years. You gotta get the N64 cartridges out of your minds. I've never once had any issues with 3DS cartridges. (Unlike discs, when get scratched incredibly easy and take up a lot more room to store)

I don't know how I feel about cartridges, I like not have to watch my nephew like a hawk when I put in a Cd but I don't know where I'm going to put them. I hoping they are not like Nintendo 64 size

There isn't even such a thing as "power" in discs and cartridges. At least, they never really compete in the same generation (for comparison, you can store as much data on a 3DS cart as you can on an Xbox 360 disc).

Just formats and storage space.

Cartridges load faster, though. Because a cartridge is effectively an add-on to your system. Discs need to be read by a laser.

This is how cartridges look nowadays.

Though if the NX is cartridge based the cartridges are probably gonna be bigger, about 3DS sized.

Personally, the size of the ones on the Wii U sized might be a good option; if we had to go into sizes of the console itself, the Wii U (and arguably the NX) are/could be pretty small consoles and should be able to fit in most small areas.
