Yeah, that's the thing. We know jack about the Ballot other than how Bayo placed. Saying something like it'll be a character the general public wants is a very vague statement because we don't know what this supposive silent voter base is voting for. Bayo, a character hardcore fans would normally want won the Ballot meaning that argument hardly means much.

And besides, I usually find this argument to be dismissive of what vocal fans think or want from the game. Whose to say there's even a huge discrepancy between what vocal and non-vocal fans want? Like you said, we hardly know anything about the Ballot.

I'll just say this: Neither Sakurai & Smash itself is predicable and anyone who claims so is a liar.

And I think Waluigi will make people curious at least

When we see Layton himself pull a "**** this **** I'm out" in his creator's story about him being invited to a Smash Bros. competition, that's going to be a hard sell.

And the sheer fact that he claimed to have some sort of anxiety issues whenever he doesn't talk about Daisy every time he was told to stop making every discussion into one about her.

Because let's not forget Daisy would be a good addition to Smash for appearing almost everywhere in the biggest Nintendo series.

He's got top billing over Yoshi in the latest game so maybe his star is on the rise.

Not too sure how he'd play but he could work as an assist trophy item or even stage element otherwise.

I feel the next most likely Mario character is a version of Toad, and everyone else, who's recurring and important, is about tied, except for Geno, who is third, and I only place him here because Square could change their mind about him again, otherwise he's also tied with everyone else.

Also she could be a clone, but the Mario sports games show she doesn't have to be one, like how they show Waluigi can be unique as well, and let's leave it at that.

What I want most for Yoshi is for him to have his own baddie and not end up fighting Bowser, baby or otherwise, again and again.

Donkey Kong got the Kremlings, the Tikis and the Snomads, Wario got Captain Syrup, Ruddy the Clown, the Wario 4 villain and the Shake King. Even Luigi got a game with just King Boo and no Bowser. Why not just make Kamek the baddie without bringing in Bowser?

Now wether they would actually go out of their way to approach Sakurai and request him for the game is probably a whole other puzzle....

I would like to see at least one character from a puzzle game playable in Smash though. (That isn't a clone *cough*)

If not Layton then perhaps Lip or Mallo would be cool....

I think the best way to make Daisy not a clone would be to use her abilities in some of the spin-off games like her crystal powers in Mario Strikers Charged, her flower powers in Tennis and Baseball games. I think they could pull a few moves from there and some moves based on that concepts.
