With no female hero, we can say that Linkle will have a long wait before she really start having her own adventures in more than just Hyrule Warriors. On the other hand, Aonuma also said that he is alright with the idea of Zelda being playable one day. One will really have to wonder what future Zelda titles can easily top Breath of the Wild.

A bit of a shame that apparently none of the Smash Zelda amiibo line are compatible with this game. But pretty neat to have a wolf companion when you scan in the Wolf Link amiibo into the game though. I wonder what the other three amiibo would do though...
