The intro looks good in the new visual style.

The gameplay not so much, something about mixing the choppy animation with a semi-realistic-but-not-really look throws me off a lot.

Same here. I've seen at least one person complain about the voice acting, how they preferred the original, and how they don't want Lex Lang ruining Clancy Brown's lines in Crash 2 and Warped, though personally, I prefer the air Lex's Cortex in the remake over Brendan O'Brien's Cortex in the original. Don't know who voiced Brio in the remake (I know it was also Brendan in the original), but whoever it was did a fine job as well.

The animation and overall presentation has been immensely improved as well.

Yeah, that was definitely a huge part of the appeal. I had things that catered to people from various spectrum whether they liked anime/Trump or not. I think it was an effective way of bringing people together on something regardless of how they might feel about Trump or not.

I think the bigger question is whether they'll be doing the same thing with the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo will undoubtedly be much more invested in keeping it exploit free seeing as they're unifying their output, and there will be a time frame where it won't have been cracked into. While stopping hackers is a bit like swimming up a waterfall, if this policy carries on to there it may actually interfere with a couple of things.

Yeah, if this were on the 3DS I can't see the overworld. . .functioning.

Future Pokemon games on the Switch wouldn't have to worry about it, but the question is whether they would keep working on it.

I would be elated if the answer was "yes," but there's no way to know as of right now.
