There could be several factors.

The steady rise of social media prevalence, the Pokemon Go-induced surge in interest and players, the far more unique designs compared to past generations, the general uniqueness of the region triggering greater levels of hype and thus memedom in response to hype.

The last one might be the largest factor, as the Nintendo Switch has far more hype than the Wii U did and due to said heightened hype triggered a wave of memes upon it's reveal.

Or it could just be a fluke. Whatever the reason, the past has at least generated the "It's been 3000 years" meme, so the potential has always been bubbling under the surface.

Splatoon has gameplay so hype-inducing that it's no wonder it's a meme magnet.

It's also a hip 90's world full of mechs, music, and an endless colorful world of characters with a social community full of whoever can be bothered to log on saying whatever pops into their heads.

Or in other words, it's Sonic Lite.

Seeing as I actually like Sonic, the above statement was more made for hilarity's sake.

But my stuffing the villain in a snowglobe after having played various video games involving everything from knocking eldritch abominations to sleep for millennia to cheating reality to kill them to vaporizing them down to the cellular level with a wave motion gun taken off of a mech broken apart over the course of the final battle is a -bit- lite. Just a bit.

Correction: it's only been out for two days (not that it makes it any better).

Had the game pre-loaded on the 28th and the moment the clock struck 12am on the 29th, I was on that *****. It helps that the second half of the game becomes really linear meaning there's not much to distract me aside from possible loot. Had the entire game been open world, I'd probs still be less than or around 50% done with it.

I already had a sorta review/first-impressions of the game here:

I'm liking the game a ton so far.

The characters may look like an emo boy band, but they definitely don't act like it. The casual banter between them makes it feel more like a road trip with your best friends, which is really what the game is, a giant road trip that just happens to coincide with the take over of your nation.

Once you get a hang of it, combat feels fluid. Although it looks like you're mashing the attack button, you're actually just holding it, and that sounds basic, but it really helps with when you're hopping around enemies, swapping weapons on the fly and calling on your teammates for support. But it's not like you can just wail at enemies, especially the bigger ones. Unless you pull off a big attack that knocks them down, they're still going to be moving around attacking you, meaning you'll have to learn their attack patterns and dodge/guard. Regarding guarding/dodging, you can either hold the guard button, or press it before an attack connects. Holding it drains MP, whereas tapping it right before it lands doesn't (and with one ability, actually rewards you more MP). There's also quick-time parries, some are easy and give you a ton of time, others you gotta be quick. It could just be because I'm already in a bad position, but I find the quick ones, if missed, put you in a bad spot.

The music is great, the world feels very alive and real, and the real world brands (there's literally a Nissin Cup Noodle truck outside one town) don't feel intrusive. I head-canon that the world of XV is some sort of alternate world where a lot of real-world events took place but also a ton of their own events. It's the only way I can reason Beats by Dr. Dre, American Express, and Audi R8s (they're only in the movies) existing in the world, not that it's a bad thing, I think it's really cool.

Haven't played it yet, been focused on that FFXV grind. However I did watch gameplay of it, it looks cool. Not sure how I feel about the bounce pad though, but I'll probs just need to actually play it to get a real feel of it.

Having finished the game, my thoughts are that the game is really enjoyable. If it's your first FF game, dive right in. If you haven't played an FF game in years and XV caught your attention, dive right in. If you think that FF should only ever be turn-based/ATB and/or should never take place in a pseudo-modern setting and refuse to play it regardless, whatever, it's still a good game.

My biggest grip with the game is that the second half gets hella linear

A lot of it is spent on a train

and feels sorta rushed. But even then it's still enjoyable. There's even this one portion where they sorta forget the game is an action RPG, but it's still enjoyable (no I'm not talking about the stealth sections).

I bought VIII and IX, XIII and have X and X2 as a Christmas gift.

I just haven't gotten the chance to play them...

This is a Pokemon game right? It sounds like Metal Gear Solid to me....

Blink and you've already cleared Victory Road, but GODDAM if this song isn't epic...Hoenn and Kalos had amazing VR themes but this blows both of them out of the water...but a damn shame Victory Road itself was so short...Vast Poni Canyon made up for it though, even though it was rather straight forward in comparison to other Victory Roads...

XV is the first I've ever finished, not necessarily the first I've ever played though, that title either goes to Crisis Core or XIII.

I remember wanting XIII as a way to tide me over to the release of Versus XIII. Then XIII - 2 came out. Then Lightning Returns came out. To Sqaure, XIII may have been the star game, but to me Versus XIII was, and seeing all the other games get announced and released before we got any new info on Versus XIII killed me.

And then E3 2013 happened, and I forgave them.

Speaking of E3 2013, aside from a few general things, it seems a lot of those ideas were scrapped too. I guess they weren't ever actually planned for the game, but just to show things off.

I like that they're changing up the aesthetic. It's like when Brawl gave some of the more simplistic, cartoon-y characters a new look. It wouldn't work in every situation, but I think it fits well enough for a fighting game.

That kind of diversity is nice in limited doses here and there.

Well let's see. The red branding started with the "There's no play like it" slogan at the end of various videos and the Nintendo logo going back to red.

But changing the My Nintendo site this long after the fact and the "There's no play like it" slogan itself due to the Switch's nature are probably both results of Switch brand planning, so saying that it's because of the Switch will probably end up accurate.
