I'll be honest, I'm a little depressed through the loss. I've been practicing all day for this and I didn't win any round. #smashbros
I would estimate 95+% of people go 0-2 or 1-2 in their first tournament, and the ones that don't are people with ample wifi experience against competent opposition beforehand. Then even those exceptions end up always underperforming at their first tourney when their nerves/lack of experience gets to them. At my first tourney in Brawl for example, while I was one of those exceptions and managed to win my first two sets in Winners, after getting demolished by San in round 3 of Winners, I ended up getting eliminated in Losers to a player I won consistently against in friendlies, leading to a 9th placing out of 32 overall. And my tournament performance after that quickly improved, and I stopped dropping sets to players I lost to before (for example, I never lost in tournament again to the player who eliminated me in my first tourney).
As such, take your first few tournies as a learning experience, try getting in as many friendlies as you can, and get in touch with the players there so you can get practise with them outside of tournament.
