Kirby's most popular characters are in Smash Brothers.

Dee is cool and popular, but he doesn't hold a fanbase candle to Dedede, Meta, or Kirby. Nor is he as important to his series as they are. You could remove him, but you can't really remove those three.

Nor does he even have the size and vocality of fanbase of a small but still popular who is not truly required to represent their series character.

This is something that could help him, but he's not on the level of say Jr and Rosalina who both got in despite not really needing to be in to represent Mario.

I suppose really what he does have that they have is potential to be unique, but I still would never consider him someone who is going to happen eventually, nor someone who'd break media, or get a lot of fan hype.

Told him about some of the situation that came up, with all the different people saying there's an announcement this month.

He says he wouldn't put it past Nintendo of Japan to delay an announcement to try and kill a rumor, or to shut up a leaker in the company.

So if an announcement ends up not happening this month, I wouldn't write off these sources that we're hearing from.

I will say, that something odd is going on. All these "prominent" people saying they know something then holding it back for attention. It's kind of silly and makes me expect some of their info to be wrong.

By shoe-in, I think they meant Smash in general. Inklings really fit the bill to be in Smash at some point, either the DLC or Smash 5

That's a touch inccurate to say. There are a few characters left that aren't in Smash that feel like logical next steps for certain series.

Inkling is happening eventually for sure at this point.

Isabelle and Nook are good guesses for Animal Crossing.

Dixie and K. Rool for Donkey Kong.

Ice Climbers returning for Smash 5.

There are certain things that are definitely going to happen at some point in Smash's future.

I don't think he really hates DK as much as people thinks he does.

Seems like an overreaction. In a game with multiple series going down at all times? I'm sure it's hard to juggle content and make every series feel pleased.

And the fact that he tried to so accurately make the buddy system work with Diddy and Dixie in Brawl proves he knows the series.

So I do expect him to revisit the series for a newcomer. It's just there's a lot of competition for attention when making a game of this nature.

It has boosted the Wii U a bit for a while and has sold about 700k retail copies in that region alone. And this is on a market where console gaming is dying. Combined with a dying system + dying console market, Splatoon's sales are very impressive for a new IP.

I would say either way though, Splatoon is Nintendo's latest new successful IP. Even moreso successful than Pikmin. I would be completely shock if they don't get in Smash by the time a hypothetical Smash Bros 5 comes out.

I haven't watch the color swap origin video but chances are there are tons of straw grasping on what's possibly based off something.

Fighting games have used source-less color swaps since forever and Smash is no exception. Some characters just never been in enough media to get enough alts to be used.

Shrek is a third party character with a dead video game series and a dead movie series. He's only around as a meme these days.

All the characters I listed are important to their series, sales at Nintendo, Smash, etc.

The explosion that is Splatoon getting by someone to the point they'd say that Inklings are only moderately popular amuses me.

It outsold Smash in Japan. It was the hype of the town even before release.

I haven't seen anything like it since Animal Crossing and Pikmin. Many new Nintendo IPs have came and went with a fizzle, Splatoon is clearly no fizzle or hot for the moment only thing at this point.

I agree that Ganondorf's blue skinned alt with a red cape is a reference to classic Ganon, though. The similarities are just too many to be a coincidence.

Some of the alts' origins, such as Samus's, Shulk's and Lucina's are outright confirmed by Sakurai.

I'd agree, though mostly on the "getting out of hand" part.

This has honestly gotten out of hand. High, nearly herculean expectations are on Sakurai for no real reason and it feels like lots of bandwagoning from people to get some cred because the Smash Ballot ended.

I'm full up front in saying that I genuinely have no clue what the next character is besides my personal guess of it being Inklings/Wolf and it's been that for a while out of personal opinions and my own observations. Though I am excited, I want to see news soon if there's any. If there isn't, I can be patient. Getting more characters is something I am grateful for, as long as they are fun to play as.

I eagerly wait what Sakurai has in store for us with open arms and would love to be surprised; part of the thing that makes these all the more interesting is purely because of the fact that many of these leaks are too ambiguous to have credibility/will crumble when news arrives, much like the past days of Smash 4 speculation.

Of the people that currently say "they have a source", I have to say that I doubt that the vast majority of them have a source. No offense or calling out of people but seeing vague, textual leaks when Artsy Omni basically set the bar incredibly high for fanmade leaks definitely damages the credibility of them.
