Bill and Lance would be a fun one-two like the Belmonts were. I’d be stoked to see them but I’d also love to see Bomberman. It’s crazy how many excellent properties Konami still has that could be great choices.
Konami has a fantastic range of characters. It's just that a good chunk of them are stuck in the backrooms....man, I wish to see Mystical Ninja, Boktai and Rocket Knight come back. Suikoden too, but at least the first two games are getting an HD remaster, so it's a start.

That's like saying Charles Foster Kane is an obscure character because he was never in a Citizen Kane sequel.

Chrono Trigger is still considered to this day one of the best video games ever created. Regardless of SE's inability to successfully follow up on it. And it's main character is never going to be obscure.
So sue me, it was just a thought. I never said it was right.

I totally agree. I was a pretty big Contra fan as a kid but haven’t kept up much with it since. I loved the first three games on the NES and SNES. The first Contra was also the only game I’ve ever played with my mother as a kid and we managed to beat it with the 50 lives code (which was still harder than it sounds lol). I always wanted to try Hardcore Uprising but never got around to it. After the disappointment in the first Contra Switch game revealed a while back, I was pretty excited to see it return to form in today’s Direct. I’m actually pretty interested in trying it out. Bill and Lance are two of my most wanted characters in Smash. I feel like they’d be fine as alt outfits like Olimar and Alph since the two play identically.

Anyway, while what I said about Chrono was, and still is a thought, I would like to explain my stance more, if that is okay...

What I meant is while I do know Chrono Trigger is one of the best games of all time, (I just failed to mention that) I just think that with his lack of recent appearances, aside from maybe Radical Dreams, relevancy is an issue for him, even if his game is great, which I am sure it is. Still, Super Mario RPG for the SNES was also great, and at least it is getting a remake, which might boost Geno's chances up.

Not trying to dunk on Chrono's chances, for this is still just a thought. Just wanted to explain where I was coming from here.

If the next game has a more typical newcomer count of like 15 or so then I'm thinking 2 Mario reps is pretty likely.
And I think Waluigi and Toad are the top candidates for those spots, with an outside chance for others like Pauline or King Boo.

Tbh I feel like Paper Mario kind of pales in comparison to the ones above, who are much more far-reaching across the series and with general audiences. Paper Mario is a much more narrow choice which represents a very specific and (relatively speaking) lower-key part of the Marioverse, not even one of the bigger spinoffs like Kart or Party.

I think Crono is the best character to represent Square-Enix as a whole. His game was created by the "Dream Team", long before Square and Enix became one.

You know, on the subject on crossovers in my post, I always thought Contra make a good crossover with Metroid.

Also, Ghosts n' Goblins would be a good fit for Castlevania.

Oh yeah, I’d love to see a dual intro trailer for Bill Rizer and Sarah Kerrigan featuring Samus. It’s cool that all three series took a lot of inspiration from the same Alien and Predator movies from the 70’s and 80’s.

Another point in the Magus column. Being one of the main characters in Radical Dreamers as well as his connection to Guile in Chrono Cross means that he actually had some representation on the Switch. My ideal Crono character is Magus and Guile alt with a moveset that pulls from both characters. I feel like that’s the perfect way to represent the entire series. And that has nothing to do with Magus being one of my favorite characters and Guile being in my top two favorites in Chrono Cross before I even knew about the connection :094:.

I would have to agree...fully, that is. Well, even if Chrono does become playable in the next Smash Bros. Magus can always be an assist trophy.

But based on what you read, I do think it makes more sense now for Magus to be the playable one.

I’ll take a Magus assist trophy. At least then I’ll have a good model I can port over Sephiroth, who has a lot of similar traits, or Ganondorf if Sephiroth doesn’t return for some reason.

Honestly I don't see Toad as super likely. Even with all of his appearances, nothing really changed for him, I mean he was already appearing a lot in past console generations and never made the cut. My guess is that Sakurai don't want to add him because of his philosophy that he need to imagine the character showing personality when fighting, and Toad is still very limited on that aspect. Toad also lacks the support other Mario characters have.

As of now I still think Waluigi, Pauline, King boo and to some extent Geno are the most likely future Mario reps.

I can picture Kunio and Riki making it in over Billy and Jimmy...and I'd be happy with that too.
How would everyone feel if they went with the more recent Kyoto and Misako from River City Girls over Kunio and Riki? We did get Cloud over Hero of Light and Joker over Naoya Todo so I suppose it’s not impossible.

Nah, Kunio has a huge legacy in Japan, they won't pass him up for the main characters of the Fairly Popular Indie Sequel

So did all the leaks pan out? by all I mean pyroyoyo or whatever... him and papagenos said stuff iirc
Yeah, Pyoro was right about everything. I think Papagenos was mostly in agreement with Pyoro, though there was one prediction form him about the Peach game that did not show up in this trailer, though a background element hints that he is still correct in that specific leak.

I like how people for years have said that online multiplayer for Fzero would be amazing, so out of nowhere Nintendo decided to make it a thing.

Kyoko and Misako are no Cloud Strife. And Naoya Todo is no Kunio.

But I would like it, because I played the first RCG a lot. But it should and would be Kunio.

In a way that no one really wanted, in true Nintendo fashion.

I'll still be playing it though, because I have to imagine Nintendo is going to monitor its activity to gauge interest in the IP.

So, about F-Zero, with the F-Zero 99 thing that was shown in the Direct and all, do you all think that might increase chances for another F-Zero representative being added to the roster in the next Smash Bros. game?
I guess it counts as the series not being dead. But I don't think it's enough to get a character in.

What it could do, if it's popular enough, is hopefully lead to them returning to the IP in a bigger way. Though the next step may be a remake/remaster, and I think it would take an actual new game to bring another character from the fringe of possibilities to a plausibility.

Though it also depends what else is going on, first-party-wise. The selection is not at the heights it used to be.

It's not really the same thing.

River City Girls is more like a spinoff of the main series and those are really the only games where the girls have a true starring role centered around them.

Overall, the franchise has always been centered around Kunio and Riki. The Japanese name for the series is named after Kunio, he is the mascot of the series and of Technos Japan when it was around, and he and Riki have both represented the series before in other games (Code Shifter, Mighty Fight Federation).

So Kunio and Riki are the best reps for the series. I don't think anybody would accept Kyoko and Misako over them (I know I definitely wouldn't).

Sus things still pointing towards SSBU DLC

1 The Gamecube Controller got restocked in Japan, last time that happened was with Vol. 2's reveal (3 weeks before)

2 Sora Amiibo ??/2024 . Why no official date ?
2.1 The announcer guy said everyone is here with the Sora Amiibo ! So why no official date, Could be waiting for DLC announcement

3 ( Noah & Mio ) amiibo , release date. = 01/2024 , why skip the Holiday season ?

4 .MK8 DLC NSO bundle ending

5 Big reveals happened in October for SSBU DLC. 2020 & 2021 = Steve & Sora , respectively . 2019 September & November had 2 character reveals

6 Smash site updated, removing the accessories tab

7 Next gen isn't launching until Sep/Oct 2024, they wouldn't reveal a "Deluxe" or 6 a year out, it would be more marketing than SSBU got.
7.1 DLC is the only item they can get out fsat enough given the crunch time window

1 Before the restocks, Papa heard ; "Something more may be happening with SSBU", the time-frame the source heard would of been June 2023.

2 The Gamecube Controller restocks aren't happening in USA yet, since NoA is the global marketing center for Nintendo, which probably means they're holding off for a announcement.

No. F-Zero will only get another rep if either Sakurai wants a character from F-Zero or if F-Zero gets a new title, or maybe a GX remaster/remake, that does more than well.

I aprove of us getting more echoes, its good for characters who probably wouldnt be considered otherwise
I did just have a thought. Noah and Mio are pretty likely candidates to be in the next Smash game, but I've never really seen N and M get discussed as Echo Fighters for them, despite being the original versions of Noah and Mio. Thoughts about this potentially happening?

If Smash 6 hasn't started development yet, I could see XC3 getting skipped over for presumably XC4. I think the next game will probably show up earlier than later on the Switch 2.

Why not just put Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon and Bill and Lance from Contra in Smash? They have games on Switch so they are still relevant (or relevant again) and it would be like getting the old gang back together with the other NES icons already in Smash.
Also Arthur. He had a new Switch game just 2 years ago.

I can picture Kunio and Riki making it in over Billy and Jimmy...and I'd be happy with that too.
Oh yes.

It's all coming together...

Displeased.

Not really the same. FF and Persona protags star in, like, 1 game each. Kunio has starred in, like, 50 games. The RCGs have starred in 2.

More like Leave Her, Johnny, Leave Her, if you know what I mean.
I don't know what you mean, but I like that shanty. So have a Like.

So recently, Fire Emblem Heroes just got it's 1000th Hero and it's celebrating that milestone.

Fire Emblem Heroes has come such a long way since February 2nd 2017 and it is still going. Despite it's mobile title, I still think at this point, Fire Emblem Heroes deserves some more content in Smash Bros. Doesn't have to be a character, although a FEH OC would be cool to see, but it has plenty of material for items, stages, music, etc. And I still think the Breidablik, the Gun-like artifact that summons the Heroes, should be a Pokeball item that summons different Fire Emblem characters for Smash Bros.
