For anybody interested, The Game Awards just announced the nominees this year. Once again, the "Best Family Game" category is basically the free Nintendo win category (the only non-Switch exclusive there is Lego Star Wars). But the real kicker? Xenoblade's FINALLY getting some respect: XC3 was nominated for Best RPG, Best Score and Music, and even GAME OF THE YEAR! And that's without knowing the Player's Voice nominees yet!

It deserves to lose anyway. Any game with worse villains than sonic forces doesn't deserve the time of day. This may be harsh, but it is very much xenoblade at its worst.

I really wanted to like that game, but man there were so many issues. Perhaps I shouldn't be so het up about this.

Contrarian.

I am not a XC fan but I am happy for those that do like the series and 3 and that's it's getting a nod considering how dense the title landscape has become.

Oh yeah I spelt it wrong. Mobile suggestions aren't that good it seems.

Thinking of game awards gives me an idea for a poke floats style stage but with elements from stand out games of various series. Call it 'nostalgia trip' or something.

Yeah, it isn't like they will announce a DKC game out of the blue... Unfortunately.

Part of the issue of the game awards is that its big reveals tend to focus on a particular type of AAA game which if you're not really into that scene, makes the whole presentation feel really tedious to watch. I sat through the 2019 edition for the hope of a Smash trailer and was so bored out of my mind, that I pretty much decided I'd never watch a full show again, no matter what the rumor mill suggested was going to show.

I want a DKC game more than anything and even I heard there was most defiinitely going to be a reveal trailer at the 2022 Awards, I think I'm still be inclined to wait till it popped up on Twitter or YouTube.

I dunno... It'll probably be ok so long as the new features elon has planned aren't compulsory. But some changes have already made some content creating shift to other platforms. Maybe it's the next MySpace.

I don't even have to know the nominees to know that Elden Ring will win GOTY so whatever. Next year Tears of the Kingdom will win GOTY so whatever in the future as well. Award shows are ALLLLLWAAAAAAAAYYYYSSSS the industry promoting itself. I find the whole spectacle of it all so gross but I suppose fakeness is an important social skill all the same.

I've only ever watched when there was a Smash trailer. I knew that we'd get a reveal in 2018 without Nintendo announcing anything because of the proximity of Ultimate's release date with the show. Then in 2020 they did us all a solid and not only announced a reveal but also got it out of the way early so I didn't have to waste my time with them any longer. Didn't hurt that it was Sephiroth too.

It's guaranteed that all the reveals will be rounded up together later so I find basically zero point in sitting through it. I guess as far as game reveals go I hope Wumpa League finally makes its grand entrance upon the scene. If that doesn't get announced there then I think it was scrapped entirely. That'd suck but oh well I guess. I really like the idea of another take on Crash with a multiplayer focus and I think there's a lot of potential there for a great game so here's to hoping.

BTW while we're sort of on this topic still... Ultimate was absolutely robbed in 2019. Sorrynotsorry but it's Game of the Year easily out of all those nominees and I've literally played and beaten all of those games at this point. Now this is especially the case with Elden Ring basically guaranteed the W this year. You'll have to excuse my "opinion" here but I feel like the undisputed pinnacle of the platform fighter genre in its entirety might be somewhat objectively worthy of such a branding (GOTY) but alas I'm afraid all award shows are never based on merit and/or contribution so I'm clearly out of line here haha.

Also as a little aside Kojima's next game will definitely get GOTY the relevant year even if it gets the same reception as Death Stranding (I liked Death Stranding though combat being a clear afterthought did drag down the game more than it should have) because Jeff so obviously wants to have that big fanboy moment where he personally gives Kojima an award. Literally anything the other nominees do better or any uniqueness they each offer the video game landscape as a whole won't be considered for even a most minute fraction of a millisecond because that's just how meritless our systems and by extension the culture around them inherently are. People with way too much unchecked/unearned power are everywhere operating everything and thus are the deciding factor so it's always who you know that triumphs over all else.

And with that I've elaborated on all of my strong opinions with regard to the game awards.

Honestly the Game Awards are so clearly geared towards the big AAA stuff in various categories that I can't even get upset about who wins what most of the time.

Content Creator of the Year consistently being made up entirely of names I've never even heard of has pretty much told me I'm not really the targeted audience for this show anyway.

Personally my top game this year was between either Elden Ring, Ragnarok, Stray, XC3, Plague Tale Requiem, and Horizon FW. Still not sure which one's my favorite, give me about... three and a half weeks to decide. Though I'm pretty sure my favorite is going to be either Elden Ring or Ragnarok.

It's more fun to talk about personal games of the year.

Less corporate and more honest.
I've mostly been buying older games. Newest game I've played is Guilty Gear Strive. Personal Game of the year is Rouge Legacy 2 and Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe (If that can count as a new game). Both are on my radar for when they see a price drop.

I didn't play that many games this year since I've been busy with state university, but of the ones I have, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is my favorite.
I hope it wins Best Family Game. It deserves it.

Star Hill. Why do you ask?
For Monster Taming franchises, the big ones that come to mind that are currently on the Switch are Digimon, Yokai Watch, and Monster Rancher if you include ports. There's a few more if you include spinoffs like Monster Hunter Stories, but those three are the ones that mainly dabble in the Monster Taming genre alongside Pokemon. I could see Digimon as it's successful in its own sphere, and while Yokai Watch is struggling, there is no denying the influence it had considering it contested Pokemon for a time in Japan so if it can get its footing again I think it could have a chance as well.

As for Fossil Fighters, I would like to see some representation for that one. I doubt it'd be a playable character since its last game was on the 3DS eight years ago, but something like the aforementioned T-Rex would be fun in some capacity.
Wouldnt shin Megami Tensei also count
I think after pokemon both Digimon and Shin Megami Tensei comes to mind
I wish these 3 franchises gets a crossover game (not specifically smash)

From what I have played this year, it would definitely be the forgotten land. Will hopefully play the new Pokémon and sparks of hope before the year is out.

My Fav this year is Forgotten Land!
Speaking of Kirby i would like to see if the general consensus of Kirby in Smash has changed!
During Smash Ultimate it was basically most Kirby Fans rallying behind BWD and a lot of non fans being super hostile towards the Idea of even just one more Kirby rep!
I wonder if that changed thanks to forgotten Land!
Here are some unorganized Kirby in Smash Thoughts i have:
I mean even all the Dee Haters should agree That BWD Should have gotten atleast any type of 3d Model i mean Look:
In Smash the Stands are Empty

Maybe the Hyper Focus on Dee might be an issue as tons of people only consider him and marx as good smash Characters even tho Dark Matter and somew others exist still BWD Desrves to be in!

I wonder why everyone focuses on Dark Matter Blade i rather think focusing on the True dark Matter is the better Choice!

also something i hope most can agree on is that we dont need Green Grens Twice just use the Layout from 64 and the Graphics from Meele

Its Weird how Kracko is almost completly ignored by Smash! Right?

A Dedede Arena is also missing (then again we dont even have a dedicated Bowsers Castle)

It would, I just forgot it which is weird since I played V twice this year.

After SMTV's selling a million, I'd actually put it ahead of Digimon.

You also have monster hunter and dragon quest which have their own tamer style spinoffs too, if more franchises were needed, or for a potential sequel. I for one would love to see Gypceros as a stand in for a training dummy if it is a fighting game. I hated that thing in gen ult, along with cephaladrome and nibelsnarf.

Stray really caught my eye when I first saw it. I know it has its flaws but it really appeals to my tastes.
