My tiers of how likely these are to happen are:
  1. A regular sequel - Might be boring but it's the easiest choice and you aren't always going to get exactly what you want.
  2. Reboot - Is a cool idea and could offer refreshes on older content, but I think that selling a game with so much less content might be unappealing to consumers. Plus I don't think full moveset reworks are very likely at all, at most maybe some characters will get some new Normals, maybe a Special.
  3. Ultimate Deluxe - Could happen, but with SW2 being BC and Ultimate selling well already, I don't see a reason for it other than laziness or unwillingness by Nintendo or the dev team to move on.
  4. A Spin Off - Pretty unlikely, but could happen, just not in place of a new Smash entirely.
  5. Ultimate 2: Even Ultimater - Would be really cool, but there's just no way they would go with this over any of the other more safe and easy options.
I think we'll get 1, and eventually with all the DLC we'll have 5. I suspect the next Smash will have a DLC cycle that's significantly longer than Ultimate.

Which is why am not afraid of cuts in the slightest. Yeah the only possible cuts that are gonna be pernament are probably third party characters but... am not half as invested in them honestly.

How do ya’ll feel about Morpho Knight as an echo fighter? I’m surprised I don’t really hear them get talked about much.
He'd be neat. Have his stand-in for of Dimensional Cape be essentially the same move, but instead of slashing, he does the wave thingy that flips people around or dizzies them or something...probably not the dizzy effect. That sounds broken.

I'd also want him to have an Easter Egg where holding a fully charged smash attack as long as possible causes him to make his sword get absurdly large during the attack.

Any predictions on what we'll see for the Pokemon Day direct?
I feel like we're gonna get a trailer for Legends ZA since it's been a year and it's supposed to come out this year (maybe like showing off the starters and some things about how the game works since it's supposedly entirely set within Lumiose City), but probably not a ton otherwise? Maybe like one surprise announcement in there, but mostly mobile game stuff like Go, TCG Pocket, Masters, Cafe Mix, Sleep...

Pokémon Legends Z-A will look really ugly, but it will do something different with the mechanics that will excite the fans, and the story concept will excite them even more.

The jury will still be out if the game is actually good though.

Honestly they'd make more sense than a lot of Echo suggestions. In both of their appearances, they' actually share a lot of moves with Meta Knight, just souped-up. There's usually only a couple flashy super moves they don't share, and so with a few unique specials and a new final smash I think they could work pretty well.

On that note, I kinda hope Meta Knight sees a rework next game. His Smash moveset basically amounts to random flailing, and the stuff he does in the newer Kirby games feel a lot cooler and more dynamic.

Wouldn't it just be grand if Litten was confirmed as a starter for Z-A? :p
Finally, a Pokemon Echo that actually works as an Echo! :4pacman:

...Maybe. Possibly. Maybe not actually, depending on how much the final evolution diverges.

  • "fun"
  • asking for characters that AREN'T expected or wanted
Dude, what's your definition of fun? Because I see only two avenues here; people mentioning stuff like Shrek and Goku because duh, or someone honestly answers and people go ****ing rabid because [insert favorite here] is on the list.
Obviously common sense would dictate that this activity involved some form of maturity. I mean most of you already said you're hitting or beyond hitting 40s so i thought that was a given but i guess not somehow. Also ofc it's also means Video Game characters only

Everyone has characters they are indifferent towards or don't want in Smash. Let's not lie. It's a lot more interesting spin instead of usual rite of just list favorites all the time

if "we're" going to be babies about it then i'll start first. My indifferent/uninterested picks for Smash would be:

Paper Mario
Toad
Tails
Crash
Another FE rep without cuts firsts
DQ Slime
Sol Badguy
Monster "Hunter"

It's annoying if they didn't buy the games? That...doesn't make any sense.
There are a lot of people who will claim that X game or character is the greatest of all time but actually never played the game. A certain fanbase was very guilty of that before a certain remake dropped but I'm not going to say who. If you've been speculating for long enough, you probably know who I'm talking about.

People being sheep like that, believing the opinion of other people without making up their own mind by actually trying it, is a big pet peeve of mine. Not just for video games but for anything in general. If you haven't tried it, just be quiet or say you never did it, don't act like you know everything by copy-pasting someone else's opinion.

How does everyone feel about the possibility of seeing characters from more niche third party games with Nintendo ties? I’ve already mentioned RARE a ton so I’ll focus on others for now. How about some of the more niche RPGs like Disgaea, Octopath Traveller, Bravely Default, or Triangle Strategy? I had a lot of fun with all those games and I think each has a lot to offer in terms of interesting characters, stages, and music. They are definitely on the more niche side so you never really hear any of them brought up but I think they could be fun.

The Tarnished from Elden Ring. Elden Ring was a huge success, almost ridiculously so, having sold around 28 million copies since its release. A Switch 2 port is very likely happening, too.
I really hope its Malenia instead. She is the face I instantly think of when thinking of elden ring. Hell even the cover isnt the players tarnished its Vyke.

She's gotta be the Joker. I can just hear it "I am Malenia the Blade of Miquella and I have never known defeat."

Triangle Strategy and Bravery Default where great games. I'd like this. Not necessarily support it, but cool nonetheless. Unicorn Overlord is another title I'd like to.mention cause it's so obviously Fire Emblem inspired, to have them crossover would be amazing.

I don't think it's very likely however. But characters as these might just be consolidation price additions for other platform fighters?

I like her design. I’ve never played the game but I could get behind this. I’m assuming she’s a full character while the Tarnished is the player avatar? So she’d be the Elma to the Tarnished’s Cross? If so, I like that idea. Plus, I’m always saying Smash could use more female fighters.

Yep. She is the hardest boss in the game, completely optional but is the most iconic boss in the game as well. She's the only boss who is considered to be at full strength in the game. Her fight with the second most iconic character Radaun results in a whole country just being blighted. Radaun is also a possible contender but his big scale is part of what make him (also Malenia would just work better imo).

Oh interesting. Smash doesn’t typically go with a villain over the protagonist but I’d be all for it. So it’s closer to adding Diablo instead of the player character rather than an Elma Cross situation. In that case, she’d be even cooler since we don’t currently have any female antagonists and Smash could use more of both. I’m totally down for learning about new characters with interesting stories and personalities. It’s just that I’m growing a bit tired of the blank slate player avatars in Smash.

The player character is just an avatar usually in these games. For example if we were to get a Dark Souls rep most people would prefer to get Artorias of the Abyss instead of the Chosen Undead player avatar due to his importance to the lore and iconic boss fight. Yeah she is one of the coolest female characters in gaming and being an antagonist is also more interesting. Yeah I'm not a fan of avatar characters personally...

I just wish I didn’t suck at games so much lol. Elden Ring does look really cool but I’m hesitant to play it or any of the Souls games because of their insane difficulty.

I would still recommend them even if you suck, From Software is the second best developer in the industry right now behind Nintendo, they havent made a game that's lower than a 9.5 out of 10 in a long time. There are some great guides to help you get overpowered builds and there's always the ability to summon other player's to help you in really hard boss fights.

Yeah, maybe I’ll give it a shot if I can find the game on sale. That way it’s not a huge loss if I end up getting stuck part way through the game. I hear Elden Ring is more approachable than Souls since you can grind and level up. I used to play a bit of the PS1 Armored Core games but I remember having to use GameShark to actually beat them. Too bad nothing like that exists for modern games. Probably because it would be way too easy to cheat online.

This seems reasonable, if a little on the safe side. I’ve already made my stance known on my thoughts on Dixie being an echo but it could work if they really wanted to go that route. Are there any personal favorites you’d love to see in Smash but don’t see as likely?

Elden Ring is actually one of the easiest Souls games due to the way it works, imo. Due to its open world nature, you can go level up and come back later to any area you're stuck on. The game even sort of teaches you to do this by placing a boss right outside the tutorial area called the Tree Sentinel. You can defeat him if you try long enough, but the game expects you to level up first before beating him. There's also Spirit Ashes which are the game's version of summons that make the game even easier.

There are apparently mods that make the game easier if you need to go that route but Im pretty confident that anyone can beat Elden Ring as long as they use overpowered stuff or summon in others to help. They give you a lot of tools to use yourself like enemy summons, and consumables. One of the biggest things in ER to remember is if you are having trouble just go somewhere else and come back later, its insanely open. After beating ER you should be prepared to play some of the older titles with less openness since you have become accustomed to how they mostly work.

Also side note, I just realized it would be epic to see Malenia and Sephiroth fight with their longs swords in the trailer...

This.

Right now his moveset is just a mess. He's a master swordsman capable of unleashing great power, but after Brawl his special moves other than Dimensional Cape were made kinda lame. Instead of flexing his power and aerial superiority, his moveset was tuned more to be an elegant dance as a sword duelist...who flails his sword around and is pretty much only able to dash attack -> up air bridge. The whole thing needs to be refocused.

There was also the very weird decision of axing Galaxia Darkness, especially considering that the move was brought into the official Kirby games in Planet Robobot.

Yeah, Sephiroth is a great match for a few different characters for intro trailers. The one I really want to see is Sephiroth Vs Illidan. They’re both fallen heroes but Sephiroth is a villain with an angel motif where Illidan is more of a tragic hero with a demon motif. They’re both among my favorite characters in gaming so that would make it even cooler.

Speaking of playable antagonists, do you think they’ll try something similar to what they did with Sephiroth by letting you unlock them early be beating a super hard boss battle with them? From what little I’ve heard about Malenia, that seems like the perfect approach for her as well.

That would be sick if they did that again. She would have a broken version of water fowl dance for sure in her boss form.

I think that they only did that with Sephiroth because they wanted to pay tribute to the entire concept of a boss in video games, so they did that as well as making his Classic Mode route a Boss Rush.
