"What fighting game hasn't done this?"

This would be a great question if Smash Bros wasn't a party game :)
Party fighter is still a fighter.

We can't pull the Smash Bros isn't a fighting game argument when it's won several Fighting Game of the Year awards.

Only if not including Arcade, cause I think there was a Soulcalibur 3 Arcade edition that fleshed out Hwang, Li Long and Amy to be complete characters and fixed alot of bugs. Particularly Variable-canceling which gave most of the cast a Full-health to death combo.
amy wasn't in three. at least not playable

How do you guys feel about a Undertale rep?
Do you guys think it's likely at all? or it's very unlikely?
Third party characters are hard to gauge, but it wouldn’t be weird if we ended up getting an Undertale character as it’s been popular for awhile, and the Sans costume had a positive reception. In summary, I think it’s chances are decent but not guaranteed.

Yeah, I think the Mii costume is a good sign. Toby Fox has also been working on other Nintendo properties like making some of the music from Scarlet/Violet. I think Sans is one of the more likely indie reps if they choose to go that route. On the other hand, they might decide that indie characters are best left as Mii costumes and assist trophies.

It kinda wasn't obvious from my wording but that reply was a joke lol.

Smash has aspects of a fighting game for sure. The first two games leaned harder on those, Brawl completely threw them out the window, and Smash 4 and Ultimate tried to strike a balance. To what extent they succeeded is... debatable. I'd argue Ultimate is the most party-oriented the series has ever been.

If anyone is interested in talking/speculating Smash gameplay mechanics, I'm more than willing to listen :)

I actually really enjoy how Ultimate plays as a whole. There are certain characters I don’t really care for the changes or general play style but it’s fun overall. I’ve always been a pure casual player and never really learned any advanced mechanics but I did enjoy how fast Melee played. I also felt like I could use characters like Fox and Ganondorf much better than I can now.

Smash's core mechanics don't change from game to game. It's a platform fighting series and just because some games are easier on the newcomers doesn't mean you can't play them as a fighting game.

Also, you know, people can also play 64 and Melee at parties.

She was playable in SCIII. Amy was one of the game's Bonus characters, who represented the Character Creator's Custom movesets. Amy represented the Rapier moveset.
In Soul Calibur 3 Arcade Edition, because it had no Character Creator, she was one of three characters, the other 2 being Hwang and Li-Long, who's movesets were expanded upon and she was even given a different costume from her original 2P outfit.

She was a character creator exclusive?

I remember some characters like Hwang and Rock being character creator exclusive in 3. My memory is a bit fuzzy on Amy, probably because I wasn’t aware of the character otherwise.

Yeah, my memory is a bit fuzzy overall then lol. I knew Rock was in the game somehow at least. I loved his skeleton armor alt in the first Soul Calibur. Hwang was my other favorite from the first game so it was cool to see them both back in some way.

No, she was a bonus character. Basically a stand-in for one of the Character Creator's original weapon movesets. Yes, most of the Bonus characters could be re-created in the Character creator, but Amy couldn't be re-created. For one, some of her parts aren't available for choosing, like her face and possibly her hair and outfit, and two, she also had a unique voice which couldn't be given to your created characters.

You guys have much better memories than me. I owned the game and I remembered that bonus characters were a thing but couldn’t remember all the details. I think it was Soul Calibur 3 that had the cool board game like strategy mode. I though that was a lot of fun and it was really creative for a fighting game.

Yeah, the Chronicles of the Sword mode. Which was basically a mode specifically for your created character like the Libra of Souls mode in Soulcalibur VI. Chronicles of the Sword was a fun time, although I'd still love to see Soulcalibur II's Weapon Master Mode remade and it's story refitted for the character creator.

There's something I've been thinking about; if Kunio and Riki does get in, there's a very good chance that the Double Dragon theme will come along with them. It's been a part of the River City series ever since it had its own set of Double Dragons. But I got a feeling that if fans do hear that theme, it's going to inevitably lead to fans wanting the Double Dragon series to be represented (by Billy and Jimmy, of course). Now I know there are times when series are represented only by music but in this case, I do feel it would be awkward for a series like Double Dragon. This is also another reason why I can't help but feel like if Kunio and Riki gets in, Billy and Jimmy might get in too.

Now THIS is a roster. >.>

If you count each individual Smash model/voice swap mod as its own character, that’s about the size of my Ultimate roster lol. Some characters in my game have 50+ mods each with their own slot. I also added 2,500+ songs to the game. The game takes about 10 minutes to boot up every time but it’s worth it.
