Hi! When do you think the next Smash-focused direct will be and what do you think will be in it?

I think we'll see something in late August or September, revealing all of the characters prior to the 3DS and explaining the additional modes exclusive to the 3DS version, but also addressing the Wii U's release date and giving that an official specific date.

I don't think we'll have any secrets and Sakurai/Nintendo will use the direct to have all of the reveals out of a fear that those who don't get the 3DS version and wait out for the Wii U will find the roster online and not have the surprise in-game. Because of that they'll take matters into their own hands with the direct and reveal everything - like they did for Mario Kart.

We may also see more Amiibos, any other thoughts on when and what?

We'll get a Nintendo direct in August, but I doubt it'll be 30 minutes dedicated strictly to Smash. Will probably get some info on the Amiibos, confirmation of release dates, maybe a veteran and/or newcomer, stage, etc. Not TONS of info though (though I could be wrong).

What makes you think we'll get another direct? (I'm not saying that condescendingly, fyi.)

Also, regarding secrets; there's been secret stuff discovered in every SSB to date, including Brawl. If Sakurai's methods remain unchanged, we'll probably get untold secrets in SSB4 too.

Mario Kart was made by a separate development studio within Nintendo. What they decide to do isn't necessarily what Sakurai will do too (unless a meeting or a Nintendo higher-up consoles him to do so.) We won't really know, but I think there'll still be secrets.

I highly doubt we will see another Smash Direct. I do see a Nintendo Direct next month detailing some information regarding the 3DS release and a little more info on the Wii U release. There could be some information on 3DS specifics such as modes and other features. I would also say a character reveal is also likely.

August or September is believable, as the japanese release gets close.

Shoot, we might even get another one before the Wii U release.

I think there will only be one Direct before Smash 4 comes out. That direct will probably have a character reveal or Sakurai/Nintendo will give us a little info about smash bros.

With recent major releases Nintendo has had special directs to do last minute hype for the game, and four months is enough time to include one more direct even though E3 was so recent. Thats why I think so.

Sakurai has changed his methods with the latest Smash to adjust to the internet and social media. He did a lot of work on things in Brawl (Subspace Emissary and its cutscenes) and has cut them out due to how spoilery things are online. I could see him changing the method of character reveals as well.

Also, this is the first Smash to date that has two versions. He may not want people who only get the Wii U version to hear about the roster from some random source, another reason to change his normal methods and reveal the character roster himself.

I highly doubt we will see another Smash Direct. I dosee a Nintendo Direct next month detailing some information regarding the 3DS release and a little more info on the Wii U release. Another direct detailing information regarding the 3DS release and more info on the Wii U release... would be a Smash Direct, wouldn't it? or do you think there will be other things as well, such as Hyrule Warriors? Recent directs have pinpointed only one game (Smash, Mario Kart, Tomodachi Life) and only focused on those. I would think if we are getting any details for Smash in a direct, it'll be an all out Smash Direct.

Depends on when the Wii U one comes out. If it is in December, I could see another direct for the Wii U version showing off some stages or exclusive modes, as well as some tech stuff or how Amiibos will work (since the Amiibos are launching with the Wii U version, not the 3DS). If it comes out in November in time for Black Friday (which I think it will), then we could see all the Wii U details they want to share in the 3DS Direct.

We will be getting an August Direct, but I don't see another Smash Direct happening--not unless it will tackle specifically the Wii U-exclusive details and keep the number of returning veteran reveals to a minimum (perhaps to show off Meta Knight and Ganondorf?). But we will definitely be getting a new character reveal. Who is it going to be? I have three theories:

We will finally learn of Ridley's status in the game as either a playable character or strictly a boss.
We will get our Rhythm Heaven representative (granted, it isn't popular in America, but then again, Little Mac wasn't well known in Japan either).
Chrom will clash swords with Marth and Ike in an epic reveal trailer (this could potentially confirm my version exclusive unlockables theory).

A lot of people may say characters like Shulk or Mewtwo, but if nothing else, I predict those sorts of characters will be revealed as secret characters--which I consider a unique category from merely being unlockable characters.

As for who I predict for July...I don't know.

I think Ridley is strictly a boss.

I could see Rhythm Heaven representatives being announced, along with Chrom (really really really hoping Chrom is announced).

I think with Greninja and Lucario, Mewtwo is less likely. Although I would love to see him return and use his mega evolution, I have my doubts. Would like to be proven wrong with that though!

Perhaps with a Shulk reveal we'll see him sword-fighting Chrom?

Doubt we'll get another dedicated Smash Bros. direct, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them go over more details regarding Amiibo, release date confirmation and possibly talk about the Invitational tournament - likes, address feedback maybe? Possibly show off a veteran or two (Ike for starters) and reveal a veteran/newcomer.

As for a newcomer, my guess lies with an Fire Emblem newcomer or Shulk. I'm leaning towards a Fire Emblem newcomer because the direct would be a great time to finally provide some information regarding SMT x FE, and to wrap that up, bring in the newcomer. Shulk wouldn't surprise me due to X, but we'll see.

They may also choose to discuss another mode outside of Smash Run, but no more than one mode.

I highly doubt we will get a Smash oriented Direct. The August Direct will contain Smash Bros information along with information on other games such we Hyrule Warriors and such.

We've had recent Directs with other game information such as in February and January. And the Digital Event was a Nintendo Direct in all but the name.

I think there will be substantial amount of Smash 3DS information but I don't think it will be exsclusivly Smash Bros. Especially with Hyrule Warriors, Yoshi's Wooly World, Splatoon, the Kirby clay game, potential Mario Kart 8 DLC, Amiibos, and other titles on the horizon.

As for a potential newcomer, I foresee either Shulk, a DK representative such as K. Rool or Dixie, or a retro rep (not taking the Gematsu leak into account).

They may reveal how the Smash Amiibos will work with Mario Kart and Toad Tracker, since those are two games that will have been released when Smash is out and have been stated to be compatible with Amiibo. And yeah I think we need a solid release date for the Wii U.

And I agree that they need more info on SMTxFE and Chrom being announced for Smash would be perfect if they discussed that. Shulk with X would make sense too, maybe an actual English trailer.

And I see your point, I just wonder if the recent directs being focused on only one game each has been a sign of the way they are doing all directs from now on, or if it was a coincidence with how they were marketing those games. We'll see!

This, and the fact that we really don't need another Smash Direct. It may sound a bit crazy, but I don't even think I'd want another one anyway. Although they've lost a lot of hype, the PotDs will tie me over just fine and whatever information they didn't cover and be left as surprises once the games are released.

More than likely. The Amiibos are looking to be a pretty big deal so I'm sure they'd go more in depth with them and I definitely wouldn't mind that at all since I'm curious about them.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were to be just a character reveal.
Extra information would be nice though.

True, the PotDs are either really neat or nothing at all. I'm just thinking there may be less surprises with this Smash with staggered releases and Sakurai's fear of spoilers, but we'll see what he does to balance that.

And even though we don't need a Direct, this a huge release not just for this year but for the Wii U as a whole, so they may play it safe and get as much out there for it as possible.

Indeed, I want to see more and get confirmation that each character will have one. They say that's the plan but haven't officially claimed that yet. Also want some pricing on them. Definitely curious about them as well. Gonna buy them all regardless.

We've had a string of high-selling games recently. With Mario Kart 8 and Tomodachi Collection. Pokemon X/Y was also the same. In December, Rosalina was revealed and in February was Little Mac. The Smash Direct was in April with 5 total characters revealed. E3 had 3 extra newcomers. I doubt we will have any character reveals this month but, all things considered, July could potentially see two veterans revealed (as the two character per month system prior). Then the Nintendo Direct will showcase a newcomer in the Direct and a later veteran. And most likely, we could see another veteran or possibly yet another newcomer in early September.

And I am almost 100% sure we will not know the final roster before the game releases in Japan on September 13th. We have the starting newcomers aside from Mega Man and Pac-Man plus possibly one or two more prior to the launch. And while Lucario, T. Link, and Luigi were revealed, it was due to game releases and anniversaries. I do believe they will be unlockables. I do not agree with revealing the entire roster in one fell swoop.

If there was a Smash Direct, it would have to reveal a similar number of characters as the past Direct; most of them being unlockables.

And, as I said before, we have a good amount of games coming out that deserve some limelight. We had our Smash Direct and I feel anything else would be, IMO, overkill. Especially since we have some great games coming out.

I think as we get closer to release though they may be inclined to reveal more than they previously have, generate some last minute hype especially if we don't get anything big between E3 and when/if the Direct happens, or for those who simply don't follow Smash as closely as those on this forum.

And, as I said before, we have a good amount of games coming out that deserve some limelight. We had our Smash Direct and I feel anything else would be, IMO, overkill. Especially since we have some great games coming out.
If there was a Smash Direct, they could still have directs for other games that deserve attention. The week with the Smash Direct also had a Direct for Tomodachi Life.

I think a lot of returning veteran characters will be revealed through pics of the day, with newcomers getting trailers in a direct.

I think Ridley is strictly a boss.

I'm mostly convinced of the same thing, but if they were to reveal veterans in the August Direct, I would not be surprised if Meta Knight and Ganondorf were what they'd go with. But yes, I predict almost exclusively from here on out pic of the days (unless Snake is coming back; I doubt it, but he'd need his own trailer similar to Sonic should he indeed return) for our returning veterans.

The fact that Ridley was teased in the Direct AND the fact that Pyrosphere wasn't even playable comes across more or less too much of a tease to merely be a boss, but we'll see (should he be playable, he'd be the most likely newcomer to be revealed in the August Direct).

For some strange reason, I just find it more likely to see Mewtwo return than Shulk to be added to the roster. Maybe it's because anything to do with Xenoblade being revealed would give him away and thus there is yet to be any solid evidence pertaining to Xenoblade having dominant representation in the game. That, and Sakurai said he'd think about adding Mewtwo back into the game.

And no, I do not see Chrom and Shulk sharing the same trailer. What I can see, however, is Shulk doing battle against the villains of Smash Brothers in his trailer while Chrom is battling Marth and Ike. But so far, no two newcomers have shared the same reveal trailer.

I'm sure there will be a Direct in August, but I'm not sure if it will be a Smash Direct. I'd guess we'll get a few more vets via PotD and then probably only 1 more newcomer before the release in Japan. If we did get a Smash Direct, I'd expect the focus to be game modes and customization though.

Well, in a sense Charizard and Greninja shared a reveal trailer. Guess Charizard isn't a complete newcomer though since he was in Brawl as Pokemon Trainer. And a lot think that Dark Pit may be a character since he is in the Palutena poster and was emphasized as being separate from Pit. In which case he would share a trailer with Palutena. And Elijah Wood shared a trailer with Abraham Lincoln.

Yeah, at least a trailer/newcomer in whatever inevitable direct we get in July and/or August. Think most vets will be revealed in PotDs though. Repeating myself now though.

From what I've been seeing, people are more so leaning towards Dark Pit as an alt for Pit. Speaking of alt costumes, maybe they'll mention that there are many more alt costumes (as expected at this point) that will be available upon unlocking them in the various game modes.

I could very well see him being an alt costume, it's just weird that he got such a emphasis in the trailer and his own spot on the poster. Then again, Sakurai loves his characters.

I would think alternate costumes would be available once the character is unlocked, although it could be that you need to play as them a certain amount of times or with them in game modes like you said. I hope/think we get more alt costumes through pics of the day like we recently got for Link with his Skyward Sword costume. I hope we get a Outset Toon Link costume. If they are doing Dark Pit, I could see Shadow the Hedgehog as well, Dr. Mario too! Skyward Zelda and hopefully Dry Bones Bowser. Maybe Lucario will even get a Mewtwo costume, since Mewtwo also goes mega. They moveset would just no longer involve Mewtwo's tail.

Bottom line, I hope every character gets a costume or two and its not just Wired Mac, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer that get significant changes. I think there is plenty to address in a Smash Direct. Costumes, Amiibo, game modes, new characters, trophies, official release date, Smash Tourneys (Reggie mentioned taking them on tour and the Invitational was super well received), etc.

Shadow is a 3rd party character. We already have Sonic as a Sega rep. But, I hope to see the Dark Link color swap from Brawl to return as an alternate costume. Skyloft Link is just lazy recolor, sadly.

We're gonna get another direct yeah. It'll have a character reveal and that's probably it. It definitely won't be totally Smash Bros.

Not saying Shadow would be playable, just an alt costume for Sonic since they share the same height/reach and could share a moveset. Still one Sega rep.

I love the Skyloft Link and think it was a clever recolor, even if it was simple. Just don't know why they still have the hat, makes me worry that if we get an Outset shirt/recolor for Toon Link he'll still have a lightblue cap, and I want my bedhead flowing in the wind.

I dont understand why everyone is so confident it won't be totally Smash. Smash is a big deal for Nintendo right now. I could see another direct all for it. But yeah it will at least be in a direct in some form.

Pit and Dark Pit look exactly the same except for color difference. I'd like to see Shadow for sure, but if they could make him a usable skin like that I'm pretty sure he would just be a separate character. Mewtwo over Lucario would probably be strange since Mewtwo isn't a fighter and the only thing that would be "Mewtwo-like" with Lucario would be his neutral-B.

I agree that everyone should have some kind of special alt they can have. I would love for them to stuff every character with a lot of costumes, the more the merrier.

The villager's alt costumes/colors are pretty unique skins, so Shadow could be. Then again, a girl villager or boy villager is still Villager, Shadow would be a completely different name. So yeah, unlikely, closest we'll get is probably a black Sonic with red behind his ear or something. Also, Mega Mewtwo X is fighting type.

Shadow's an Assist Trophy again, so he cannot be an alternate skin. The best choice for an alternate skin? Classic Sonic (since they are still essentially the same character but notably different appearances). As far as color swaps, I'm pretty sure they're going to go with the Seven Chaos Emeralds motif given we already have blue, teal, magenta, and silver (IT'S NO USE!!!).

Dark Pit as a character is a solid maybe. If nothing else, he'll likely just be a color swap again (I may not know Sakurai, but would a more probable third rep from Kid Icarus be Hades? You know, since Hades was the one who stole the show).

I feel so foolish for not remembering Shadow was seen as an assist trophy. Yeah, no alt skin for him then. And yeah that makes sense with the Chaos Emerald colors!

And yeah Sakurai loves his characters and will make sure there are lots of Kid Icarus/Kirby reps.

Also, more info on the GCN adapter would be nice. We already have the price, Wavebird confirmation, and Smash edition controller. New info like the adapter's extra cable, or if the other GCN controllers will resume production with the Smash edition controllers.

The only thing Sakurai hasn't really gone in depth about at this point is what exclusive content the Wii U version has so I imagine the next direct will talk about what exclusive mode the Wii U version of Sm4sh has.

There's going to be a direct a week before the game releases.

It will only be spoilers. :troll:

Really though, I think it's possible to see a Smash Wii U Direct in October. Why? Well, they haven't really touched on many of the Wii U specific features beyond stages, Amiibos, and GC Controller. And since Sakurai said these games will have a ton of content, there must be much more in the Wii U version.

So I think they would be wise to make a Smash Wii U Direct, and use it to also spin-off into Amiibo talk at the end.

I'm going to say September we'll see a Smash Direct focused on the 3DS version, basically telling us everything about the 3DS version that we don't already know, aside from locked content. Then in November we'll get another Smash Direct focused on the Wii U version, telling us all about the Wii U modes.

I think they'll want to build hype for each game before their release. This is Nintendo's biggest game coming up, especially for the Wii U. They won't want to build hype for the Wii U version right before the release of the 3DS version. They want people to buy the 3DS version, then they'll want people who bought the 3DS version to buy the Wii U version. And sell a bunch of Wii U systems.
