Good eye. I think you might be right about the Mii costume, but what gives me pause is how we still have a skipped Tournament. Maybe this one isn't related to Thursday? But given the timing I think it's most likely going to involve what we see, in some way.

I'd call out Geno here as the deluxe Mii, but we just had the Beware the Mushroom event.


Though I'm having a hard time imagining who else it could be if we keep it within the realm of Square Enix.

If it is not Geno, then maybe 2B or Chrono? I would also say Sora, but that seems very unlikely.

I mean, the Mushroom tourney wasn't about any specific set of characters, it was themed about the Mushroom items in the game. Geno wasn't really needed for that kind of event (or any character for that matter).

So now the question is is it a completely new Mii, or is it Geno.

Could go either way. I could see the costume being tweaked to better look like him, but I could also see it just thrown in as-is how it was in Smash 4.


There's also the possibility it's an entirely different series itself, but neither Chrono or 2B really fall under the "Premium" banner... unless it's just someone NOT Square?

Basically, in the in-game news site, filenames are named through a 4 digit system indicating the type of news and their order.
They are classified in 3 types according to the first 2 digits:
10 for general events (spirits included)
20 for news (characters, mii costumes, game updates, etc)
40 for tournaments

The last 2 digits indicate the order in which they were apparently supposed to come out. When an event or a tournament gets skipped, it means it contains something that wasn't implemented yet in the game, and is being held back until the appropiate time.

They can totally justify an SMRPG spirit event by just adding 3 or even just 2 more spirits from the game and pairing them up with the Geno and Mallow spirits that are already in the game. The event themed around the Link's Awakening remake did just that with the Link and Owl spirits after all.

It's for a gap in spirit events. Presumably all the FF7 spirits will come with Sephiroth. This is something on top of that.

It's not a tournament, those are numbered differently.

If FP3 somehow does occur, then Geno is certainly on the table again.

No, they 100% didn't forget. They're not going to forget something that they already had to license out once before. If things like the Gil costume got licensed, they wouldn't forget something that they made a special splash screen for in the prior game.

Can't imagine why they'd do a Spirit Event for SMRPG when Geno and Mallow are already Spirits and the other three main characters are all playable.

Anyway, I doubt this event has anything to do with either SMRPG or FF. SMRPG for the reason above, and FF because we're getting a whole Spirit Board specifically for that. My guess is that this is for a completely different franchise — one that might not even be relevant to SE.

in that case, i'd still doubt it had anything to do with Square again, if only because they only just got done with Octopath and Mana not too long ago
on top of Sephiroth potentiallly having a Spirit Board to himself already, for this update's Square pack

Small correction, it's probably just the first digit only that indicates type, they probably were counting on reaching a 3 digit number for events and that's why it's 4 digits total.

Well, WoL could definitely be improved, I also found it a bit to grindy. But now the team could refine and improve it to make it more stomachable, keep in mind it wasn’t the games priority and was rushed. I definitely think some characters could be updated, but completely overhauling movests is...

Truth be told, I just want to rip the bandaid off of Thursday asap. If Geno is missing... speculation is going to be a lot less fun for the forseeable future.

I don't think it changes anything. All Smash 4 costumes returned unchanged so there's no reason why Geno should be any different.

Well, one, since when do spirit events have to only correspond to premium Miis? And two, I don't think that was the assumption. Mana and Octopath spirit events just dropped on their own. The assumption is that Square content all comes together, but spirits that aren't tied to the playable character aren't parts of waves anyway.
