If Samurai Shodown was the game being considered for the crossover instead of Fatal Fury or KoF, then Nakoruru would be perfectly suitable for the spot. That’s why I made the comparison between her and Haohmaru. She’s a prime face and mascot of that game, so it wouldn’t really be breaking too much precedent if she were given the spot.

No chance SamSho is considered over those two.

What characters would you all want that have basically 0 chance of getting in? I'd go with Duna from Fossil Fighters because it's a Jojo reference she's really unique as a character and would definitely be crazy in Smash

Can I change “basically 0” to “literally 0”? Because I personally would like to see Elsa from Frozen make it in for two reasons:

1. Her ice powers would be unique to the roster (the only other fighters who use ice are Ice Climbers and they obviously function very differently)

2. The meltdown from the community would be amusing to watch

But then to say that a portion of people want Terry want him for the same reasons an equal portion of people want Mai, that reason being lewdness, is incorrect.

Basically you can't discredit the fact that a lot of people want Mai for her huge tracts of land by saying a lot of people want Terry for his pecks, because as we've established they clearly don't.

These DLC characters aren't of the form Smash x Company. They're of the form Smash x Franchise, e.g. Smash x Persona and Smash x Dragon Quest.

If it's Smash x Samurai Shodown, Nakoruru is competing with Haohmaru, not Kyo or Terry.

Typically I'd agree, but the SNK fighters are pretty intertwined. KoF itself was designed to bridge existing series together.

It's all much more connected than most series are. And frankly, I suspect Nakoruru's chances are greater when under the SNK fighter umbrella than otherwise. Because new entry or not, I don't think Samurai Shodown is the series Sakurai would prioritize above the others.

So if he really broke it down on a per series basis, I think Nakoruru's case becomes significantly weaker. This isn't a 1:1 obv, but consider Morrigan's case if Sakurai, seeking another character, assessed her based only on Darkstalkers.

This made me hype more than it should. I felt nostalgic for SNK fighting games I played with my brother over the years.

Admittedly I am not familiar with King of Fighters, but from what I understand it pioneered many mechanics of the fighting genre, most notably team based fighting.

I really hope Sakurai leans into the whole “team” aspect with his design of Terry as I think it would really help him stand out. While making him a full on Pokémon Trainer type characters is most likely way too resource intensive, I think it would be cool to have some sort of mechanic for Terry that involves his teammates Andy and Joe, maybe for an assist attack since King of Fighters pioneered that mechanic as well.

Since I'm still here, I might as well ask, how long was the 'snk' part of the smash website and how many people saw it there? (and not just a screenshot)

Basically, it was the standard "This pack adds a character, stage, etc.", some standard legal stuff relating to online purchases that's found on all items on Nintendo of Europe's site, and then there was an SNK copyright.

That would be pretty bad ass but I'm not sure how it could be easily implemented. KOF works where when you loose a round you transition to your next character, it'd be weird to switch every time you lost a stock, and beyond that I don't think KOF had assists or tage outs. (could be wrong) Not to mention that'd be 3 whole unique characters in one.

I’ll piggyback on my impossible character post and double down on the Frozen content. An Action-Adevnture RPG in the style of Breath of the Wild, where you play as Elsa. I could probably write a long post about what could feature in the game but it’s a bit off topic so I’ll leave it at this.

King of Fighters may indeed be "bigger" than Samurai Shodown, but I thought Samurai Shodown was still pretty significant for SNK and with it's big resurgence lately and it's upcoming Switch release, I figured it wouldn't be out of the picture for a potential Smash crossover.

So Terry is basically locked in now.

The big thing about the Terry/Ryu leak that catches my eye is the fact that they state that their trailers will be continuations of past trailers.

If Terry's trailer is the Ken/Incineroar trailer, then I think its safe to assume that Ryu is a lock.

If Terry's trailer is something totally new.....

I can understand where people are coming from regarding the next character being an SNK one given the Challenger Pack #4 listing but I'm not seeing how people are reaching the conclusion its Terry over any other SNK character. Is it just because he's the face of Fatal Fury or is there another leak I'm missing here?

Even then, I'm not entirely convinced that an SNK character is guaranteed, seeing how the Jeanne D'Arc pack for SNK Heroines has the exact same file size and copyright formatting, which combines with Occam's Razor to mean this could've all just been a mistake on a placeholder from a low level intern.
