Screw it, I'll take this opportunity to spark off some discussion about putting Zelda characters in Smash.

Who you want.
Realistically, probably Impa, but my longtime favorite idea is Linebeck. The guy has no chance, but he has Smash Incineroar levels of personality.

You know, this makes me want a Fire Emblem Warriors sequel that takes place during the time skip in Three Houses.
Personally, I'd rather them get the crossover right next time with a game that doesn't pull exclusively from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon/Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Fire Emblem: Fates. Featuring Celica and Lyn too because people hated this idea.

EDIT: And no, just adding Fire Emblem: Three Houses does not fix things.

I don't think I've even seen that guy. Was he in the DLC?

This makes me want one that takes place before the game's events.

The war between Seiros and Nemesis, or maybe Jeralt's rise towards being the Archbishop Rhea's greatest knight... or maybe even both?

With the update on the 26th, I would say we aren't getting a Direct until November.

Didn't expect this. Cool. Not really a fan of musou games, but if this one ends being good story-wise, I'll probably pick it eventually. Making it a prequel of Breath of the Wild is a wise and interesting move.

Now, I know it will sound like I'm taking advantage of the situation but I can't help myself but to think a Koei Tecmo character is more likely now. They're still working with Nintendo on important projects, and there's the listed Ninja Gaiden trilogy. The most likely rep would be Ryu Hayabusa, which I think has gained a better position now.
I know not everything has Smash implications, but this kind of info is the best thing we can get excluding leaks, so yeah. A KT character feels more possible to me, specially Hayabusa.

Also. When they will give me a Metroid shadowdrop on Twitter? :(

The final level of Age of Calamity is gonna be like
Oh God. That moment was... amazing.
They better pull off something like that with Age of Calamity, it would fit extremely well. I don't want a happy ending for the game.

Edit:
There was a problem fetching the tweet

I feel like they'd rather go for 'canon sequels' or single-game focused Warrior games for future crossovers. Much easier in scale to manage, can reuse more assets, expectations are easier to meet. Why try to appease everyone and fail when you can just cater to one audience and succeed?

Yeah at this point I'd say its Partner Directs for the rest of year, game focused presentations for stuff like Hyrule Warriors 2, and a Sakurai presents at some point in the fall.
There's likely going to be something for Pokemon too. They've never just shadow dropped anything for Pokemon and you've got the Crown Tundra releasing in a month or two. We'll probably have a mini direct for that; larger if they want to include info on SNAP as well.

He's a pirate from the DS Zelda games. He has a bit of a Jack Sparrow vibe. I don't believe he's been in any spin-offs or DLC, though he does have an island named after him in BotW.
Ah that's why I've never heard of him. I thought we were still talking about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild characters. lol

They better pull off something like that with Age of Calamity, it would fit extremely well. I don't want a happy ending for the game.
The game ends with Zelda sacrificing herself, the king dying, the champions dying, Link getting sealed away, and the entire land of Hyrule getting absolutely destroyed.

The only way they could make even a hopeful ending for this game is if it ends with "Link. Wake up." and then cuts to Link's awakening.

Yeah at this point I'd say its Partner Directs for the rest of year, game focused presentations for stuff like Hyrule Warriors 2, and a Sakurai presents at some point in the fall.
I'd also say that said Sakurai Presents will be before November or not at all.

Well for Fire Emblem Warriors I'd rather they didn't. At least add all of the most important titles, not just two of them and the newest one.

Plus, whatever one can say about Game Freak and TPC, they do keep a consistent pace of presentations and updates for Pokemnon projects whether they're beloved (Mystery Dungeon DX & Snap) or not (Pokemon Unite).

For me that's the last shot of a General Direct, here's what I'll think we'll get from 2020:

-A few cool third party games at Tokyo Game Show, none releasing 2020
-Sakurai Presents Fighter 7 between mid Sept-mid October
-At least one more Partner Direct
-Pokemon Mini Direct with Crown Tundra/Snap/Some other small thing
-1 potential Twitter shadow drop for a smaller franchise

Now this was a complete surprised. A very good one! I dont think this game was leaked by anyone right? Thats impressive.

I loved the original and so going to get this right away as well. If this has online coop too...

Now, i still think we could get a smash character revealed via shadow drop sakurai presents this month, but any actual direct isnt happening for awhile i feel

This year has had a ton of good games. Some people were just upset Nintendo didn't advertise them in a big 30+ minute video.

Apparently, if games aren't announced in a huge General, they don't exist. :drshrug:
People begging for a Direct just because they want to fell "the hype" are annoying, on that we can agree.

But I think there's no harm in acknowledging that Nintendo's communication this year has been abysmal and that they could have avoided a lot of frustration if they just announced these games sooner.

And yes, we're still in a global pandemic and I even said in the past that takes like "they're using COVID as an excuse1!!" are garbage. But even before the pandemic was a thing Nintendo went with only three first-party games confirmed for this year (and only one of them was dated).

Completely dismissing criticism just because it gets poisoned by a bunch of bad faith actors it's not the best kind of attitude, just sayin'.

I'm assuming these small announcements are Smash, maybe another port, and not much more. We could see some new games being announced but with a 2021 release as well.

but if there were any chances of a third pass, unless the next two fighters really kick a**, this will definitely be the last.
Even if the second and third are the Mangus Open, I have extremely high doubts that Sakurai would even bother doing another pass

Like, this dude has been working on the same game for basically what 5(?) years straight? (cross and cross 2) and now that the budget is getting lower and lower, added to the fact with the pandemic/work at home, where Sakruia apparently paid out his own pocket to pay his team equipment to work, plus he's also having a hard time contacting outside the studio for pitches and permissions, and holy ****, it's apparently harder to do this purposive budget pass, then the normal past

I wouldn't take the opportunity either

I think all their blockbuster games like BotW2 and 3D World Furry edition got pushed back thanks to COVID related delays.

All we have to wait for now is DLC for both Pokemon and Smash.

Not dismissing criticism, was more just saying how people brushed a lot of games off this year.

Their communication could've been better, yeah, but TBH in the end it doesn't really matter to me personally too much anymore. I fully respect other people with reasonable takes like you said, though.

The calendar for releases does seem pretty clear at this point:

September: 3D World Collection
October: Pikmin 3
November: Hyrule Warriors 2
December: ? (possibly one of those smaller scale ports/games Khan mentioned)

And even a big December title really isn't wholly necessary given how the other games will sell.

Cool, a new Hyrule Warriors was super unexpected and I love how it wasn't leaked. It may not be BOTW2 but we still get our Zelda-fix for the holidays.

I assume that's it Nintendo-wise (except for Smash Fighter 7). Wonder if Pokemon Snap or Bravely Default II can still make it this year (December?) as third party titles.

We're most likely getting one more Smash character this year.

HW announcement this week has made me feel iffy on this month, though. Starting to maybe feel October looking a little more likely.

Look at it this way: Nintendo not having more first party games to announce this year increases the chances of their next announcement finally being a Smash reveal
We probably won't see it coming anyway since the main theme of Nintendo announcements for 2020 is shadowdrops.

Random idea: One of the characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity could be a Guardian. It'd have to become unavailable at the end of the game (at least for the story mission) but they could do it. Having it become a boss in the final level after being playable would be pretty cool too.
God i would love to see Urbosa in smash. Or Mipha

Guardian's Fury would be pretty sick if it couldn't make it in as a "real" character.
